  • Alex gave a small nod and grinned after the small bird. "Right," he said, clapping his hands together. "I suppose discussing with the other Riders about Thalian's presence is in order. Along with a meeting to determine who shall be Thalian's mentor." Thalian scoffed, though said nothing. He'd heard plenty from his father on how the Riders worked.

  • Dawn nodded her head in agreement and looked over at Thalian, smiling. "That's right, you still have much to learn," she added in after Alex's words. "We better get going then so that you could get settled, Thalian. What do you say?"

Fyra purred softly against the elf's legs and circled him once, casually doing her own thing as the others talked.

  • Thalian looked down at Fyra with a soft smile spreading across his face. "Okay," he said at last with a small nod. "Let's do this and get it over with."
"Zavier, Lunyra, please take Kylon to meet the other dragons," the white dragoness rumbled in response and stretched out her body and wings before motioning toward Kylon to follow her before rumbling toward Zavier and heading off toward the caves where the dragons resided.

Kylon cast a wary glance at his own Rider before he followed the white dragoness away from the three. While Kylon went, Thalian bent down and scooped up Fyra into his arms, as though to comfort himself.

  • Zavier had flown off not long after, taking the rear as the dragons flew off towards the caves. Dawn gave a nod in Thalian's direction and then looked to Alex. "We should get going, then. The Riders would be waiting for you Alex."

Fyra stretched up and gently sniffed Thalian's cheek before relaxing in his arms, her eyes blinking and ears twitching slightly at the voices.

  • Alex led the way toward the building of the Sanctuary and up the steps into the hallway. Voices floated toward them from what Thalian guessed was the main chamber. As they drew closer, Thalian could swear he heard bickering among many of the gathered people and several voices belonged to elves. They mentioned Alex's name several times, coupled with the title King. However, there was too many voices going up for Thalian to make out anything that was said.

Glancing over at his big brother, Thalian noticed a look of utter annoyance written across Alex's face. Alex straightened up and squared his shoulders before he glanced down at his wolf and jerked his finger toward the crowd, as though a signal for Ocarin to silence the Riders.

  • Ocarin lifted his head up beside Alex and nodded his head with understanding, his blue eyes glinting. On the other side of Alex, Dawn glanced over at Thalian, pressing one hand over an ear as if telling him to cover his ears. The wolf then took a step forward and released the great howl of the wolf, loud and clear as it echoed off the walls of the large main chamber. It was a low and deep howl that stretched on for a long time. Only after the noise began to die down did the wolf finally quiet down himself, ending with a sharp growl. 'King Alex has returned.'

  • Thalian ducked his head at Ocarin's loud howl just as the bickering died down to a hushed silence. "Thank you, Ocarin," Alex said clearly, his own voice beginning to bounce around the chamber. His head turned toward the gathered Riders and he suddenly seemed much taller to Thalian, as though becoming King had changed him somehow. The elf shuttered.

"I have found the new Rider that has been born. He is my half-brother, Thalian, son of Calanon and Alea." Murmurs of shock began to rise among the Riders and one voice, belonging to an elf of the Southern Wood, rose up.
"But he's just a child!" Murmurs of agreement rose through the Riders and Thalian found himself shrinking. At least he felt like he was.
"I was once a child," Alex spat, his patience wearing thin. "Do you dare claim that my Kin is not fit to be taken as an Apprentice, trained in our ways and take the Test?"

Silence. No one dared argue with Alex. "I thought not. Now, we discuss Thalian's Mentor."
"Get an elf to mentor the child," snorted one of the Men. Thalian looked toward the one who spoke. Judging by this man's build, he belonged to the Northern Village, grown hard against the cold of the mountains. Many of the other Men murmured agreement and Thalian felt deep hurt and resentment toward those men.

  • Dawn tensed at the man's words and her eyes narrowed at him. "I suggest you watch your words, Calum. You know that is no way to speak, especially in front of young Thalian."

As if to back up both Alex and Dawn, Ocarin let out a low growl deep within his throat and glared at the Rider. He flicked his tail sharply behind him and shifted his weight on his paws, allowing the sounds of his claws against the floor to echo off the walls.

  • "But Calum has a point," came the rather gruff voice of another man shouldering his way to the front. Thalian flinched at the ugly scar that marred this man's face and caused a white glossy look to his right eye. From what Thalian had studied back home, that mark was from the claws of a large cat, possibly a Puma, like what had attacked him. "Thalian's an Elf. No Man here knows Elf customs, nor how to train one."

"That doesn't mean that you cannot learn, Torrin," Alex put in, forcing his voice to relax. However, Thalian could still hear annoyance in his brother's voice.
"Thorondir is more capable of training your brother than any Man here," the man named Torrin stated, throwing his arm in the direction of a tall, agile looking Elf with two-toned brown hair(going from dark to light) that was half down and half up in a simple yet elegant braid of the elves. Thorondir lifted his head at being singled out and looked rather calm for being put on the spot.

"If it is the King's wish," Thorondir said with a bow of his head toward the King. "I will gladly mentor my Kinsmen."
"I will gladly think of your offer, Thorondir," Alex said with a dip of his own head. "Dawn, Ocarin and I will discuss this privately tonight at the Castle. In the mean time, Thorondir, please show Thalian to an empty room that he can use as his own. Torrin, you can bring him and his companion some food. Without throwing scorn at him." He added the last bit when Torrin gave a disgusted look toward the lot of them and Thalian couldn't help but feel as though that this scarred man would become a great enemy of his in the future.

  • Dawn just shook her head from behind Alex while Ocarin snorted and gave a low huff. "Thalian," Dawn then whispered quietly as she leaned in so that only he could hear. "You can trust Thorondir. He will help you get settled. And if... if anything or anyone bothers you, don't hesitate to come tell us."

  • "Thank you," Thalian said with a nod of his head toward Dawn.
"Thalian," the young elf looked up as Thorondir spoke and saw the elf standing near stairs with his arms at his sides and a purposeful look upon his face. "Tolo ar nin."(Lol I'm going to switch to Tolkien's elvish for a while XD cause I don't want to freaking continue with my own. I might strip it and recreate it based off of Tolkien's elvish :P)

Thalian nodded and with a farewell look to his brother and Dawn, headed toward the elf and followed after him with Fyra in his arms. "Come," Alex said to Dawn and his companion. "It's time we ride for the castle for the Discussion."

  • (Ohh so you're gonna start again?? )

Ocarin turned around and nodded his head at his companion. 'Best we do it soon.' Dawn was watching the two elves walk off before she shifted her attention back to Alex. "Ah, yes, you're right." With one last glance at the Riders in the main chamber, she sighed and headed away along with the wolf following after.

  • (XD maybe. I mean, Tolkien's elf language flows! Mine doesn't. -_- XD have you seen Lord of the Rings!? Heard the elves speak!? IT'S SO FLUID! and mine's so...flat -_-'' XD I could study up on linguistics and create my language based from that, like Tolkien did)

Alex realized something and turned back to the Riders. "While Dawn and I are away, Thorondir will keep the Sanctuary, in Dawn's place," muttering started up again, some disproving while some approving of Alex's choice. After that, Alex turned and headed outside. "Best to leave the dragons here. They'll be needed to help settle Kylon into his new home." With that, he whistled and his fiery stallion trotted up from the stables, tacked and ready to ride.

    (POOF TO DECISION MAKING! XD)

It was nightfall by the time Alex reached the council chambers of the castle, where he now sat in one of the chairs heading the table. He'd specifically asked for a round table, so that those he discussed with would be equals.(Like Kind Arthur XD) "The Men have points," he said with a begrudging sigh. "Thorondir is the more likely choice for Thalian's mentor."

  • (LOL that's true. xD Well good luck with it then~)

"I suppose one can't argue that it isn't true," Dawn muttered as she took a seat beside him. Ocarin settled down by Alex's side on the ground, ears perked up as he listened. "Thalian is an elf. Another elf would certainly be better to mentor in the long run."

  • (Thanks ^_^)

"Thalian definitely would still continue to get the normal training of an Elf as well as the training he needs to take the Plunge," Alex added with a small nod. "But I can't help but feel as though the Men are holding prejudice against him. Most likely because he's my brother and they think I'll favor him over any one of them." Alex gave a heavy sigh, his eyes closing and his head sinking slightly from where it had rested on his fist.

  • ( ;D )

Dawn remained quiet for a few seconds as she thought. "Perhaps then you could find someone else to mentor him, someone who is not an elf. Someone you can rely on. Maybe that way the others will be a bit more open-minded and learn to accept Thalian as any other normal Rider."

  • (XD I know where that's going XD)

"But what about Elf Customs?" Alex questioned, glancing over at Dawn. He seemed to know who she was referring to. Dawn had yet to have an Apprentice, while Alex had only had one during his time as King and that Rider had left already to protect his own home, refusing and turning down the right to rule that went to all Riders. "Thalian certainly couldn't learn to ride Kylon the way Damian taught you, Dawn. He's elf, more than me, and deserves to be taught as an Elf mentor would teach."

Alex went silent for a while, his eyes closing again as he thought. Then something occurred to him, an idea placed there possibly by his dragon, who was no doubt listening in on this. He then turned toward Dawn with a new look of hope in his face. "You could train him in the ways of the Rider while Thorondir could mentor him the ways Calanon taught me. You'd be responsible for most of the training and Thorondir would handle the Elf Customs." Then he seemed to realize it sounded better in his head and he shrank against his chair with a groan.

  • ( 0_0 I honestly wasn't even thinking of Dawn when I typed that LOL. Like her name did not pop into my head at all. But sure idk, that works too D: )

Dawn couldn't help but laugh and she slowly shook her head at Alex. "That's fine, Alex. I think Ocarin and I understand what you are trying to say." Below the wolf silently nodded his head, his eyes staring up at them. "But... are you sure about this? Its not that I doubt this idea of yours. Thorondir is clearly reliable. I just don't know if I could teach your half-brother well enough."

  • (XD who were you thinking of then? :P)

"No, I'm not certain," Alex admitted, glad it was only them three here in the council rooms. He'd not yet appointed a Council, for none of the Riders were worthy to become part of it. "Honestly, Dawn, I'm not sure who should mentor my brother. I would myself, but Damian's advised me many times that kin does not mentor kin."

  • (I expected one of us to make someone up lol. )

'And in your case, it may be better if you did not. Not only are you kin, but you yourself are king,' Ocarin rumbled. 'To the other Riders it may seem like special treatment.'

"It may help if we think of potential Riders to mentor Thalian," Dawn suggested, looking back and forth from the wolf to her friend.
