She used to love pretend games, fancying tales of leaping across great chasms and landing lightly on the other side. To the outside eye, her body was a blurred, dappled streak. Her mind was full of adventure, completely oblivious to the fantasies stored beneath her paws in the shelves she tread across so carelessly.
The beast's hot breath rushed around her paws, moistening the gripping pads that launched her away, only granting a few second's relief before it returned. She swerved one way, then another, and then leaping across an entire aisle! As her delicate body soared, it suddenly struck that Miss was far too mature for these games. She was a rook, for crying out loud.

Like a groaning spirit, the wood began to creak and rumble, shuddering as its boards shifted and leaned and slithered out of place. The great structure was beginning to be take by inertia, leaning like a tower.
Just as it was about to smash into the ground, time slowed down in the calico's mind, but continued as normal in the real world. Funny, wasn't life supposed to flash before your eyes?
