As Jade reentered through the Gate, she was greeted by her parents. They were wealthy and considered high class here. Her mother enveloped her in a hug, while her father murmured words such as, "We're so glad you're safe," or "You could've died out there."
"I was fine," Jade protested. But her parents ushered her home anyways, demanding to see a top doctor to check for any infections.~~~~~~~~
Night rolled around sooner than expected. Jade still wore her winter clothes from earlier today as she snuck along the Gate's wall. A rusted door that was unnoticeable to most was hidden amongst moss and shrubbery. She pried it open, cringing at the sound it made, before sneaking out into the frost-covered wasteland beyond, aiming for the Cursed fence, with only a flashlight to guide her.

As Raiden ran through the wastelands that he was forced to call home, he started to realize what he was getting into. Talking to someone on the other side could mean death for both parties, or maybe worse. If someone caught them, they could be experimented on. That seemed like hell to Raiden, being experimented on by people who were afraid to be within miles of.

When night came around, Raiden started to walk towards the fence. He had been sleeping on the ground, with only his thin hoodie to keep him warm. Maybe he'd ask Jade to bring him a new one, if she were to continue to visit him.
He reached the fence first, so he leaned against it, waiting for her to show up.

Raiden whipped around to face whoever touched him, eyes wide in fear. When he realized it was Jade, however, he calmed down. He thought for a minute before speaking, as he wasn't sure exactly what he wanted to say.
"Uh, why... Why did you come back?" He asked finally, pausing in the middle of the sentence. His voice got quieter with each word, as if he wasn't confident enough to ask a simple question.

Raiden nodded. "I can't promise that you'll be able to open it," he said. Most of the time- no, all of the time- the door in between the Cursed and the Cleansed was bolted shut. The only time it was opened was to shove someone else into the Quarantined Zone. But, rather than telling Jade this and letting her down, he started to walk towards the door.
