    He had only been a member for a short while, but Rain was already beginning to feel like dead weight. Hearing of the option of having a mentor, he perked up. That would be perfect! Is there anyone who would take me? His mind drifted towards those he had met whom he would love to have as a mentor... Quietly, Rain made his way towards the clearing to try and find someone to talk to about this possibility. "I-is anyone around?"

    The German shepherd was stretched out under a tree. It was not usual for him to be loafing around, but he was thoroughly interested in this new book that he had gotten. He raised his head momentarily when he heard Rain call out. "Ja, I am here." He answered, sitting up and waving a paw towards the younger male. He shoved the book under a bush and lightly tapped his tail against the ground, beckoning Rain to come closer.

    He jumped a bit upon hearing the shepherd's accented call, but quickly trotted over to him. Wow, he looks strong! Rain put on a small smile, ears slightly back in anxiety. "Mind if I sit with you?" Perhaps he should at least introduce himself before asking a stranger to be his teacher. "M-my name's Rain. What's y-yours?"

    The dog straightened his posture, ears flicking forward as he turned his head slowly to study Rain. His claws sunk into the ground momentarily, and pulled back out as the tip of his tail flicked slightly in greeting. "Of course." Sure, Deutschland wasn't exactly the most social person around, but he was quite fond of younger members, and was a father figure to many. "My name is Deutschland." He introduced himself, then smiled faintly. "You may call me Deu, or West if my name is too hard to pronounce." He added.

    Put a bit at ease by his smile, Rain set himself down. How would one go about this... Ears still slightly back, he began, "Um... I've heard of members teaching younger ones... Might-uh, might you be willing to..." Fizzled out and embarrassed by his incompetence, he drooped his head and his voice dropped to a near whisper. "M-might you teach me?"

It wasn't the first time he had been asked to train an apprentice, and he quite liked the experience it gave him and his apprentice. Nightpaw had been his first, but had died before she finished her training, Deutschland recalled with a low huff.


    "Of course I can teach you, Rain. It would be my pleasure." The vice leader rumbled in response, lowering his head to attempt to touch noses with his new apprentice.

    Rain sighed and raised his head in relief at the positive response. "Thank you so much, Doo-er, West!" He grinned, once again embarrassed by his inability to speak.
    When Deutschland began to move his face towards Rain's own, he startled a bit before realizing that there was no harm meant. Oh, I'm so dumb. He reached out, stretching to meet noses with the shepherd. When they met, a small heat spread through Rain's chest. Whatever it may be- joy or whichever, it was certainly a pleasant feeling.
    Once he had moved back a bit, he remembered another thing. "Oh, and names ch-change with experience?"

He pulled back almost exactly at the same time as Rain pulled back. For once in a long time, there was an elated feeling rising in his chest. He was determined to make Rain the best warrior ThunderClan would ever see. Of course, that would take time and effort, and the poor guy looked pretty shy and unconfident. He tilted his head at Rain's second statement. "Name change ... ? Most apprentices add the suffix -paw to their name once they become of age to be an apprentice, which is usually around six moons. If you chose to go down that route, you would be known as Rainpaw. Of course, though, the name change is not mandatory."

    [size=10]After pulling back again, Rain bounced a little bit in excitement before catching himself and returning to scrunching inwards a bit. No need to act immature... Hearing Deutschland's explaination of suffixes, he nodded. "I-I think it might be a good idea... What do you think?" he asked, head tilting in a curiously cute fashion.

    "If I were in your paws, I would change my name." Deutschland smiled faintly, ears flicking softly as he watched Rain with a faint smile on his muzzle. He was already warming up to the adorable little guy. "I think it's a good idea."
