    [justify]A crystalline blue necklace sat on the ashen ground between Sandstone's paws. Alongside it was a tarnish golden ring set with three gems. The leader gazed down at the pair of them, a distant expression on his face. These two items, they brought back painful memories. Too painful. The love of his life, the destruction of their territory, waiting, just waiting to propose. She wasn't coming back now though, she had left, and that was it. Forever. They were nothing now, she was nothing, she was dead and he had to forget her. But he still felt surges of pain, longing for the girl he loved and for their family to be whole again, but it would never happen.[/justify]

The heir spotted Sandstone looking down at....something. Of course she wanted to see what he was up to, so Milky made her way over to her father. "Hey, dad, is something wrong?" She asked, as Sandstone seemed a bit upset.

"No, I'm fine," he assured his daughter, "how are you?" As he spoke, the leader stood up, subtly pushing some ash over the objects.[/justify]

Not only was the ash a constant bother, making it impossible to keep clean, but the fire had killed off their prey any water that hadn't dried up in the heatwave was tainted. Trickling streams were grey and disgusting, not even drinkable anymore, and the river, though not nearly as bad, still tasted like ash. "I can't wait to have a fresh piece of prey again, that and some pure water." Sandstone coughed before offering his daughter a small smile.[/justify]

"It's been a hard summer for us, but I promise you that when we move your breath will be taken out of you." She swore, "Oh, also, wear socks. That way they can be blown off your paws!"

Then the smile faded from her face as Sandstone spoke once more, "T-thank you, dad." She murmured, feeling pride wash over her. Does he really think of me like I'd be a good leader? Even if...? Milkyway cut herself off from her own thoughts as she accidentally shifted into her feline body. The heir let out a small squeak before changing back into her main. That was... strange.

    [hr][hr]Milkywaypaw blinked and shuddered, she didn't know what made her do that, it was probably just a small malfunction. "Nothing, nothing, I'm fine." She said quickly, making sure that her father didn't worry too much about her. The canine didn't really like going back into her birth body, it brought back some memories she would rather not visit again. Graceperiod... Milky gave another small shudder, trying to suppress them.
