Pan had realized a lot of other people were doing this already, so why shouldn't she?
The shifter stood near the middle of camp, in melanistic hyena form, and called, "Um...Q and A, anyone? I'll answer anything you guys ask."

Any OOC questions you have about Pan, feel free to ask OOCly, or if your characters have IC questions then they can ask IC. Just mark OOC posts as OOC, please, so I know whether you're asking Pan or me.

• OOC:

- Depending on the day and on the thread, Pan may identify as male (with he/his/him pronouns) or female (she/her/her) to a greater or lesser degree, or as no gender at all (any pronouns are ok, but I don't use pronouns at all in their narration in this case).
Typically their sex corresponds to their gender, if they have one that day - Pan doesn't experience body dysphoria but they use their body as a shorthand for other people to know what pronouns to use for them.
Before I start RPing Pan in a thread, I determine their gender using a random number generator, so that I don't let myself be biased by the content of the thread.

- Pan's wish in life is to be liked and accepted - Pan is very much a Hufflepuff.
What they really *need* is to be accepted for who they truly are, but Pan will take what they can get - being "accepted" so long as they downplay or hide the less acceptable parts of themself - even though that's not healthy for them in the long term.

- Pan exists because I wanted to do something new with shapeshifting.
Most of the characters I've seen with shapeshifting used it like multiple possessions, staying in one body most of the time and only using the others for fighting or spying. Or they didn't know how to use their own power, shifting without control and getting trapped in another body. Either way they all seemed to think of themselves as one type of animal, a dog or a cougar or whatever.

I thought it would be interesting to make a character who was born (or hatched?) a shapeshifter, and that was their true species, not cat or dog or anything. Someone who shifted between bodies like humans change clothes, never using exactly the same shape twice. Someone who maybe even couldn't use the same form for too long at a time - but still stayed recognizable in any form due to their constant color scheme.

At the same time, the Nox was just being founded and was super pro-canid, and I thought, what better to do with a character who has to shapeshift, than put them in a place where they'll be shunned if people find out? :D

(On a slight side note, I think Pan's name is honestly the best character name I've ever come up with. It's a double reference: Pan the Greek god of the wilderness b/c Pan was a wanderer before joining the Nox, and "pan-" the prefix meaning "all" b/c Pan can turn into all forms of animal.)

• >Is any part of Pan's personality based off yourself, or anyone you know?
Pan often doesn't see the obvious solution to a problem, and comes up with some bizarre and complicated plan instead. I'm also bad at problem solving, though not quite AS bad as Pan.

>Does Pan have any form preference?
Not really - Pan prefers to take as wide a variety of forms as possible. However, for practical reasons they tend to use forms that live longer and aren't so easily killed, for instance they don't spend a lot of time as bugs or whatever.

>If Pan were killed, what form would their body take? Would it stay the same form that it died in?
It would stay in the same form Pan died as.

>If offered immortality, would Pan accept?
I never thought about that, but...Probably yes.
Due to their childhood of wandering, often being briefly adopted and then getting kicked out once they turn into some other species, Pan's learned not to miss people when they're gone. Pan assumes everyone will leave or die sooner or later.
The major drawback of immortality - having all your friends etc. die - is already something Pan's long since learned to live with. (And besides it's not totally true on FF, there are other immortals who stick around year after year.) So...why not accept?

[/fancypost][/fancypost][/fancypost][/fancypost]

• - when did pan develop their shape-shifting powers? c:
They've been a shapeshifter since they were born - or hatched, who knows what their "original" form was. I don't know if one or both of their parents were also shifters.

- how would they react in the case that their shape-shifting stopped working one day?
In the short term they'd be totally taken aback because shifting isn't just a superpower for Pan, it's who they are.
In the long term, it depends if they still felt the "need to shift" or not. (This is why Pan doesn't take a single form for more than a few days at a time. It's a feeling - sort of a cross between cabin fever, boredom, claustrophobia, and full-body itching - that builds up after a few days in one/closely related forms and gets increasingly annoying until Pan shifts again.)
If not, they'd get used to being stuck in a single form eventually.
If they did still feel it, but just couldn't shift in response to it...they'd try to keep going but it'd become actual chronic pain after a month or so and just get worse. Hopefully they'd get the power back eventually.

- do they have any hobbies?
Pan likes reading and learning new things. They also spend a lot of their free time flying or swimming in the lake.

- where would they fall on a politeness/rudeness scale? where do they think they fall?
Probably about 6-7 on a 0-10 scale, where 10 is most polite. Pan's fairly casual but they're a little scared of anyone with official power over them, so they tend to be extra formal around HPs, which the HP may find amusing or annoying. (This happens the most around Nova because of her intimidating aura thing, it is super effective on Pan.)
Pan would guess they are about an 8 maybe? They don't really think about this kind of stuff but they'd probably think they're about as polite as they need to be. Unless they're already actively having a low self-esteem moment, then they'd probably say 3-4 because they're already beating themself up for everything else, for all they know they're probably rude too as well as unclean and worthless.
