IC: "Then---then what was that? Archdemon? She was talking in the third person and second person? Then explain." The priest demanded, slamming the arm of the chair before clutching his head. "I know she isn't bad, but a title like that?"

"But what if he doesn't? He was scared of me..." Shilow's grip on Atra's hands tightened as her eyes came back to Atra, and for the magician, they would almost look like the desperate fear of a normal child.

"He promised he would come back, ask him then." Elizabeth reassured, knowing no one in this house would let the priest leave in any case. Not with Shilow like that.

IC: "Daemon is a word far older than your religion," Imani explained tensely. "It could be used to mean anything from a lesser deity to our familiars. My mentor sometimes called his familiar a daemon."

Atra held the girl's gaze and gripped her hands back. "But what if he does?" she suggested. "And even if he didn't, you're in good company. We're feared, too. We wouldn't leave you alone." Even though she'd only just met the girl, but a child was a child. And even if she were older, she'd found that feared folks fare better together.

  • OOC: (Joel, having a crisis of faith)

IC: "Then what is she? What was said---that sounds only like manipulation only God can do..." The priest leaned back in his seat, trying his best to process while not wanting to disparage the child he had grown to want to protect. It was just so much more than he had planned to be involved in...

"You...you all wouldn't?" Shilow asked disbelivingly, the gaze turning between Elizabeth and Atra. What she could hear from the voices in her head answered her question though, as much as her emotions were so scared herself, of herself and for herself. She had been abandoned before, and she didn't want that again, especially because of what she could do.

  • OOC: oh no XD

IC: Imani took a deeply measured breath herself. "That's what we're trying to find out. And running around crying demon isn't going help. You're scared. Realize that. Come now, we're walking proof there's more to the unknown than meets the eye. Quit thinking in binaries, least not around a child."

"Certainly not," Atra assured. "We wouldn't leave a child alone."

  • OOC: After that, unless you have your head in the sand, who wouldn't XP

IC: "At least not around Shilow..." Joel mirrored in a mutter under his breath.

"No matter connotations, you've known her longer than any of us. She hasn't done anything out of malice, priest, and she was worried when she came back. Are you really going to believe what others say over what you know of her?" Marco bluntly said, eyes narrowed on the man to see what his choice would be.

After another moment of desperately looking between Elizabeth and Atra, a singular tear formed in Shilow's left eye and streaked down her face. For as much as she hated being able to tell when people didn't want her around, times like this also helped her confirm when they did want to help. For the first time since Joel had accepted her after her father had died, the tension in her gut released, and the child's grip lessened on Atra.

"What...did happen? I was eating, but then I was standing here....and if I didn't...if it didn't happen again..."

  • OOC: guess so XP

IC: Imani flushed a little, glad someone here actually had half a mind. Not sure what else she could say herself that wouldn't make things worse, she sat in another nearby chair heavily.

Atra's expression softened slightly at the tear. She pulled a handkerchief from her sleeve and offered it to Shilow. "I believe we met your shadowy friend that you mentioned," she answered easily. "They told us a bit about you. I think I understand what you are, dear."

  • OOC:

IC: The priest slowly shook his head, but remained silent as he tried to gather himself from the shock. Marco moved to take a seat himself, jumping in surprise when Levi appeared on his lap.

"Met them? They usually can't talk to others..." Shilow trailed off to take the handkerchief at the odd tear. "But they hand answers?"

  • OOC:

IC: Imani jumped when Marco jumped, already on edge enough. "Oh, stars above, Levi," she breathed. "Appear around a corner next time."

Atra nodded. "Some, and I found some at my home. I've put the pieces together, and I think I understand. To a degree."

  • OOC:

IC: "I apologize, this is still a little new." Levi easily responded with an attempt at such a bow.

"What am I then?" Shilow tentatively asked, curious about what her friend could have said, and honestly how...

  • OOC:

IC: Imani just nodded in understanding. "What is it?"

"You're...sort of like an angel," Atra tried for a start, deciding at the last minute to use terms the girl would be familiar with. It might be nicer for her esteem anyway, since everyone seemed to think she was the opposite.

  • OOC:

IC: "Elizabeth wanted me to check on you two." Levi then got comfy on Marco's lap. "Though she's distracted right now, so she can wait on me coming back."

Shilow blinked a few times in surprise before a very weak flush and flustered look appeared. For all she had seemed confident she wasnt what others said, to be compared to an angel of all things still seemed...out of reach...

    "I'm...not understanding..."

  • OOC:

IC: "I see," Imani drawled, not sure she even had the brainpower to answer Elizabeth's worry. She held up her arm with a sigh. "Come here, Levi. Let's give valiant Marco a break, yes?" she chuckled morosely.

Atra smiled softly as a positive emotion finally came to Shilow's face. Sort of, anyway. It had the desired effect. "I'm honestly not sure how else to explain it. What you are is a little complex. You're an embodiment and keeper of a very rare kind of phenomena--or you will be, when you're bigger and better trained. You're like an angel of it. My book called it Strange Fog, but I believe your friend called it 'Taint'."

  • OOC:

IC: With a joking tap of Marco's arm (and a bit of a confused chuckle from said boy), Levi took off and landed on Imani's arm.

"Everything will be fine, dear, look." This was much quieter as Levi tried to gesture his head back towards Joel, who seemed much more put together and at least calmed.

"Thats...one at least, at least the more prominent one..." Shilow agreed with a slow nod. "I...don't think its anything that nice though..."

  • OOC:

IC: Imani tried not to flush as she followed Levi's gaze. "I hope so," she simply mused.

"That's up to you to decide, my dear," Atra assured her. She was sure she was missing some context, but it was still true enough.

  • OOC:

IC: Levi simply shifted to the arm of Imani's chair and relaxed for the time being.

Shiloe glanced to her feet awkwardly, but didn't say anything further on the topic.

"What about my...powers, you called them?"

  • OOC:

IC: "No, it just...sounds odd." Shilow commented as she felt herself relax. Talking about herself and getting answers helped. She was only curious about her abilities, and for now didnt leave her with complicated feelings in her chest...

  • OOC:

IC: "Um...as long as I remember. They just...weren't as strong when I was younger...I also apparently don't remember much from before I was five. At least thats what my father always said..." Shilow tried to answer with a frown of concentration.

  • OOC:

IC: Atra frowned pensively at the thought. "I see..." Somewhat, anyway, but that was quickly becoming the usual for this conundrum. Eventually she sighed and sat back. "Well, Elizabeth, what do you think we check on the others?"
