  • (im making half this up as i go whoops)

Alarms and warning lights were flashing incessantly as Topaz attempted to regain control of her damaged ship. The tiny Cruiser was built for casual space travel, not fleeing from a Homeworld Destroyer ship. Her only advantage rested in the agility of her ship. It was lighter, faster and easier to maneuver. She dodged another beam of light, barely. If she could hold out until the short range teleporter was charged, she could get away. She glanced at the meter- 95%. Just little longer... just as it hit 100%, everything exploded. A blast from the Homeworld ship tore a hole in the side of her ship. She was thrown into the wall, just as her ship teleported. A crack crawled along the her ships hull and warning message flickered on the HUD.

'Engine compromised, reaction imminent.' her eyes widened in terror. If the ship exploded with her inside, the force could be enough to shatter her gem. She raced to the escape pod and forced the warped door open. She had barely sealed the hatch before shudder wracked the pod and she was thrown into the wall. Before she could strap herself in, the pod began to tumblr wildly, throwing her around like a ping pong ball.

The rural Earth forest was quiet and peaceful, utterly undisturbed save for nocturnal creatures. The midnight sky was awash with twinkling stars and far off planets. Out of seemingly nowhere, a glowing blue streak lit up the sky like a shooting star. It arced down towards the forest until it crashed to the ground with a an earth shaking rumble. In the smoking wreckage, what appeared to be a small bluish pod of some sort lay amid the broken tree branches and gouged up earth. It was vaguely oval shaped, with a small window at the wide end. Through the window, a small rectangular orange gemstone could be seen resting inside.

(Also this is weirdly long normally my starters or short whatever)

  • To say that she was reclusive may have been accurate, but it wasn't exactly polite. Perhaps the polite term was hermit.
It didn't really matter- either way, Aella was usually very aware of what was going on in her forest, as wide as the expanse was, and she usually tolerated the occasional adventurer, or whatnot, occasionally stalking them or raiding a few campsites for luxuries she couldn't make in the brush. But a meteorite? An actual meteorite, in her back yard? Really, she didn't have a defined back yard, but it was roughly in the direction of the back of her shelter, making it technically the back yard. Technically.
Pulling the strap over her chest secure, she hooked the compact, cross-bow like weapon to the back and counted the small arrows in her belt-pouch before heading out into the forests. It was pure curiosity that drew her towards the crash-site, with the excuse that she wanted to know if her home was about to catch fire. It wasn't like there'd be many creatures to hunt around that area, everything would have ran from a noise like that.

Going along the ground floor of a tropical forest was usually a bit dangerous during the night, and Aella was fully aware of her place on the foodchain, so she stuck to the branches, flinging herself through them with the sort of abandon that usually only came with children from couch cushions. Following the scar in the ground was easy enough, the dirt feeling warm beneath her bare feet as she dropped down onto the ground, keeping a wary eye out for the trees around her- things were a little scorched, and a few tree were demolished entirely, but the damage wasn't too bad. What caused the damage was what surprised her, some sort of... pod. Not something she'd seen before- not that she'd been out in the world much, but technology couldn't possibly be at this point, she saw flying things overhead plenty of times, dropping off researchers.

The metal was hot still, as she found out when she fell against it, feet snagging on a broken branch when she was clambering around to get a better look. It was at that point that she got a look through the window, laying on her side in a fairly undignified manner. It shocked her that A) there was a window, though in retrospect, it made sense, and that B) There didn't appear to be anyone in it, just a very pretty piece of rock that immediately caught her eye- she had a slight obsession with shiny things, or generally things she couldn't get ahold of easily.
And this counted as 'not easy', as she tried to pry the window open first with her knife, which promptly broke, and then searching around the edges for some sort of latch, which she finally located with a grin. It seemed to release some sort of pressure seal, sending her coarsely curled hair ruffling, a hiss pushing through the night. It was probably the most eventful night since the wildcat had decided to check out her shelter, and she'd gotten a trophy from that one too. The fur made for a very nice bed, though she'd felt slightly guilty for taking out another hunter in the night.
Deciding on waiting for the sun to rise before investigating the rest of the interior, she simply slipped in and snagged the gem, putting it in her pouch with the arrows, before heading out into the night. No actual hunting was done, but she did return back to her shelter with a variety of fruits, which she placed in one corner, and the gemstone onto a shelf with other items- a broken telescope, a compass, a few carvings of non-native animals and a Polaroid picture of dog.

[[is that alright? I kind of jumped around a lot in that]]

  • [its perf. boy i miss rping]

It was early in the morning, just after dawn, when the orange gemstone began to glow. It sparkled, floating into the air for a moment before a glowing white form expanded from it. The form was humanoid and roughly 5 and half feet tall. The white glow faded away, revealing a strange looking feminine figure.

She had deep orange hair that vaguely resembled a candle flame. Her skin was pale yellow and her eyes were deep amber that faded to orange. She wore a black vest and leggings, with combat boots. Her vest and leggings sported lighter gray patches that gave it a sort of scuffed appearance. At the base of her neck, just above her chest, rested the orange gemstone.

Normally, she took at least a few days to regenerate, depending. But she was worried about being found by the Homeworld gems. Speaking of which, where was she? She blinked and looked around. It definitely wasn't her escape pod. She was in some sort of strange shelter. Strange looking objects rested on shelves lining the walls. She paused and examined them. Definitely not gem related. At least it wasn't jail. Still, where was she?

She examined the strange piece of paper with the picture on it.
"What manner of creature is this?" she wondered out loud. It was four legged and very hairy. It didn't look like any species she'd heard of. She set the picture down. Enough messing around. it was time to try and find out where she was.

[Im still not sure of her gem placement but chest seems to fit bc she's more emotional than logical and loyalty feels like a matter of the heart so. i picture it being slightly higher up than amethysts tho]

  • She was sitting crosslegged on the floor, leaning back against the treetrunk that supported part of her home as she watched the sun filter in through the window. There wasn't a lot of sun below the canopy, but she stayed fairly high up, enjoying how it felt when the wind blew, rattling the branches around her. Aella was in the middle of dinner- seeing as she slept throughout most of the day, and moved about in the night, dinner was usually the meal eaten before bed. Breakfast had the words 'break' and 'fast' in it, which made sense for the meal first eaten after waking.
Though, perhaps she had spent too much time thinking about this.
Despite her previous promises to herself to go look at the pod once the sun rose, her limbs now felt heavy, and she was weighing the possibilities of it being undisturbed if she simply took a nap before heading out. She'd grabbed the only thing of any real interest to her, anyways- the gem. It was beautiful, glimmering in the sunlight like a candle, almost seeming to glow...
    and float.
The gem wasn't actually a gem anymore, but an actual person, standing in front of her, and touching her stuff.

"'S'A dog," She said stiffly, voice sounding unused. The words felt clumsy after so long of not actually speaking to anyone else, their voices sounding too loud, even against the wildlife, screaming around as everything began to wake up.
"How did- I mean, is that thing-" She crossed the room in a few steps, shifting the knife from one hand to the other, pinching it between her thumb and 'dinner', which happened to be a mango. Reaching out her free hand, she went to tap the gem, paying little regard to personal space as she did so- "Is that thing attached to your skin, mate?"

[[so, like that little dip where your two collarbone points end? I think it's called your clavicle but I could be wrong, but it's right at the base of your throat]]

  • (for some reason the line "touching her stuff" in incredibly amusing to me. Also YES clavicle that where it is.)

Topaz's head jerked towards the voice. She stared in surprise at the source of the noise. A strange creature that looked much like her, at least in body shape, was standing in front of her. Was this... was this perhaps one of the species she learned about on Homeworld? A human? Did that mean she ended up on Earth? She glanced back at the picture that the girl referred to. Apparently it was a dog, whatever that was.

As the human took a few steps towards her, she took a wary stance. She didn't recall if they were dangerous or not. When the human touched her gem however, she swatted its hand away, glaring at her. "Don't touch me!" she cried out indignantly. "And it's... not exactly attached its part of me. It's complicated." She clenched her fists and glared at the human female. For a moment, she was worried that her gem was damaged, but it seemed the human had only touched it, not attacked it in any way.
"Who are you? And where am I?" she demanded.

  • "I'm Aella." She said it with the sort of defiance that needed a bubblegum pop directly afterwards, rather than flicking a bit of mango peel off the end of her knife as she stepped back from the being, finding slight comfort in the fact that she was taller than it. Her frame was willowy, and her clothing consisted of a set of ragged shorts, and an equally ragged tanktop, though she seemed entirely comfortable in it. She crossed her arms over her chest and watched the candle-person for a moment, face neutral.

"You're in my home- South American Rainforest, I believe is the technical term. I brought you here, 'cause you were a pretty rock, and I want to know just what you are, because you aren't a pretty rock anymore, and honestly," She laughed slightly and shook her head "That's pretty flippin' weird." And it was weird, she was keeping a calm enough exterior, but inside her mind she was buzzing with questions- the rock was a part of her? Was she some sort of robot, or projection? She had to be real, the being had slapped her hand away, and that felt solid enough. Of course, that led to her next question- if it became hostile, could she stab it? It'd be horrifying if the thing's body just didn't exist, and she was left unable to defend herself.

[[so I just realized something about Aella? Like, she's pretty young here, 18ish, but she really has just been living in the wilderness and I'm trying to figure out why but also like I said. 18 years old. She sure she's been out into the world once or twice with some researchers but she doesn't really enjoy it and she doesn't quite fit into it too well]]

  • Topaz paused to absorb all the information. Aella. A bit of an unusual name, but then again most names that were not gems sounded strange to her. Being called a pretty rock made her pause. This human was entirely clueless. She had heard of the Crystal Gems, but apparently this human had not. She couldn't decide if that was good or bad.

As for South American Rainforest, she didn't know where that was, except for that it had to be somewhere on Earth. She snorted. "You're 'pretty flippin weird'." she replied. "Anyways, I'm a-" she paused, thinking back on what little research she had done on Earth. "alien, as, your species calls it." The full explanation was too complicated, in her opinion. Besides, she wasn't sure if the human, or Aella, would believe her. "Where did you find me?" Perhaps the escape pod wasn't too badly damaged. If she could repair it, she could use it in case the homeworld gem returned. Or perhaps she should stay where she was, and stay hidden.

  • "An Alien!" Her eyebrows arched in surprise, and she grinned, meeting the explanation with something near scorn- until she remembered where she'd found the gem. It had been in a pod. From space. Her grin fell away, and she looked fairly shocked for a moment, before nodding, and repeating herself again with slightly more uncertainty than before.
"An alien." She nodded again, and chewed her lip as she tried to figure out how she ought to react to this. She'd heard of strange things around the world, but she figured the researchers were pulling her leg- of course, there was that strange creature that hung around the pump where she usually got any clean water she would need. Mostly for washing her clothing and then herself, though some water she collected from rain fall.
"Of course, yeah, you'll want to be going back." She concluded, dropping the attitude she'd seemed to have before. She didn't usually go out during the day, though not for any particular reason other than the fact that it got uncomfortably hot around noon, and she was usually asleep around that timeperiod. Of course, it hadn't taken her too long to get out to the pod-

"I can take you there, sure, but I really don't want to be going at ground level. How good are you at trees, Alien?"

[[Yo, if you had some other idea of where this could head, that's totally chill but I was just thinking that maybe Topaz's ship is mostly intact but there's a few things that she kind of needs and Aella isn't going to have it and they end up hiking out of the forest to get ahold of what she needs- say it's something pretty simple that could be pillaged from junk yards or something, y'know?]]

  • (I like that idea lots tbh. I was also thinking further on maybe the homeworld gems show up or maybe theres an issue with a corrupted gem but ye, thats for later.)

Topaz rolled her eyes and shook her head. "My name isn't alien. It's Topaz." she grumbled irritably. Granted, Aella couldn't have known that.

As for trees... she hadn't actually had the opportunity to do a lot of tree climbing. Even on other planets. But she could shapeshift. She looked out the window, watching for a few moments. A colorful bird of sort flew by the window. A moment later her form shifted into a small orange bird with a gem on its chest.

"I can manage trees." she said. She could hold her shapeshifts longer than some gems, but she still couldn't do it forever. She wondered how Aella got around the forest. She didn't have wings. And Topaz didn't think humans could shapeshift.
"What about you?" she said after a moment, feeling somewhat puzzled.

  • Aella frowned, looking at the bird uncertainly. This was weird. This was incredibly weird. First alien spaceship, then a pretty rock that could turn into a fairly pretty person, and then that said person was, apparently, also a bird.
"Ah... Did I-" She shook her head. Aliens. Who knew what they could do? If she could hide her form in a rock, why couldn't she be a bird as well? "Never mind. No matter, but I swear, I'm gonna give up sanity right there if that pod isn't still around." She grumbled, mostly to herself and snagged her weaponry again, pulling the sling on for a second time. She questioned briefly why something not from earth would be called 'Topaz', unless of course, that stone existed out in the universe- but what were the chances that it'd have the same name? Perhaps it wasn't a stone in the universe, maybe Topaz was as common as Mary, or Katherine.

"Just keep up, alright? And don't get eaten. There's snakes around that would love something like you." She shuddered slightly, recalling the time there had been one curled about a branch- it hadn't taken too kindly to her clambering around on it's head. Dropping into the branches, she paused a moment, orienting herself before running along the branch, using the springy wood as it bounced beneath her feet to fling her towards the next one. It wasn't an entirely fluid motion- she was hardly Tarzan, and she didn't trust the vines anymore to hold her weight, but she still managed a decent pace, occasionally swinging herself forward.

[[Definitely a corrupted gem, I've kind of already decided that there's one that hangs around the waterpipe that got mentioned, which is why it got abandoned in the first place.]]

  • (Neato)

Topaz grinned inwardly and spread her wings, flapping after Aella. It was a bit awkward, flying in this Earth bird form, but she adjusted quickly. She kept her eyes peeled for any snakes, although she wasn't worried. Snakes, from what she remembered, were hardly warriors. She was certain she could fight one.

Her attention was quickly distracted by watching Aella. The way she moved across the trees was fascinating, leaping from branch to branch. She knew many gems who were agile, but she hadn't realized humans were so agile. She flapped her wings harder until she was flying alongside Aella.
"How did you learn to do this?"

  • She was probably enjoying this too much- how was she going to keep up? The question had nearly made her laugh, though at the moment she had nearly forgotten about it. It was like as soon as she let herself go, pushing off into the canopy, she forgot everything else in her life, she was just moving with the wind, one branch after another.
So, of course, the voice was slightly startling, and nearly fatal. It wasn't that she'd forgotten about Topaz, it was just that she wasn't used to anybody- or anything, talking to her when she was this far up, it was a comfortably solitary existence. So, when she tried to answer, the flow was broken slightly as she stutter-stepped, shooting a glare towards the bird in response.

"Wait." She said shortly, before falling back into rhythm for some time, before stopping at the edge of the broken trees, beginning to drop herself down towards the ground slower than she'd been traveling previously.
"Don't talk to me while I'm up there, it's weird" She could see the sky clearly from where the scar in the earth was, which felt about as unnatural as talking to a bird, walking forward to where the pod had buried itself in the ground.

  • Topaz watched Aella stutter, wondering for a moment if she would fall. Could humans survive a fall from this high? She didn't think they were as resilient as gems. She was rather relieved when Aella recovered and kept moving.

Topaz remained quiet for the rest of the time, and instead took in the scenery. It was rather alien to her. Tall trees with thick twisting branches and dangling vines were everywhere. Colorful plant life and animals darted about. It was amazing. The sight of the broken branches and churned up Earth drew her from her thoughts.

She dropped to the ground before shifting back to her original form. She had to admit, she missed the feeling of flying. She had flown plenty of times before, both on a ship and with shapeshifting, but it didn't stop her from liking it any less. As she walked towards the pod, checking the ground for any bits of wreckage, she spoke. "Still didn't answer my question. How did you learn to move like that?"

Upon reaching the pod, she examined it closer. The outside was banged up and scraped up pretty bad, but it seemed mostly okay. What concerned her most was where a chunk of shrapnel, presumably from the cruiser, had torn into the pod. She frowned and examined it closer, peering into the inch wide gash. The tear itself she could probably weld back together. Internally, however, it seemed that the part of one of the thrusters was damaged.
"Great. Just what I need." she muttered angrily under her breath.

  • "Didn't answer because apparently I can't talk and do that at the same time." She sounded slightly irritated with herself with that fact- it wasn't like she'd have an opportunity to learn that at any other point, no one else went up into the canopy with her.
"I've been out here since I was smaller, saw the monkeys doing it and figured I could too, and then I didn't break my neck, so it all worked out just fine. 'Sides, I don't like being so low on the ground, reminds me of where I'm at in the puma's level." She followed Topaz through the debris as she talked, stifling a yawn. It was late, and by late, she meant early, and either way, it was past the time she was usually asleep.

Crouching down next to the pod, she peered in through the window again, noting that the lights had stopped blinking. She'd closed the door to avoid any critters making it a home for the rest of the night. She continued the inspection she'd cut off the night before, picking up the blade of her broken knife and sticking it into her pouch, before taking out the other one and tapping it lightly on the surface, before looking over at Topaz once more.
"So," she grinned, "Can I go inside?"

  • "Interesting..." she mused, still mulling over her ship. Getting the pod fixed would be hard. She didn't think Earth had the sort of tech she needed, and in order to make it she would have to find metal somewhere. Some tools would help to. The parts needed to even attempt to fix it were too complex to simply melt and form into the needed shape. Aella's tapping distracted Topaz. She glanced at the human.

"It's not much to see inside but if you really want to have at it." she said, before peering back into gash and trying to remember what exactly was damaged. She pulled out some half shredded chunks of metal and a few torn wires. "Is there metal around here?" Earth metal was probably different than her pod, but it could work as a temporary substitute. Anything was better than being stranded if the Homeworld gems came after her.

  • "Sweet!" She said, pulling the door open again and swinging herself in- "Dude, you're talking to someone who's never been in a proper car, this is cool!" Aella gushed, running her hands over the interior- there wasn't a lot to it, but just the way everything felt was a different texture. Almost everything in the forests were rough, or soft, or slimy or generally just not the same sort of smooth metal held, even her own knives had some chips in them that gave them a more rough feeling.

"Metal?" She poked her head out of the hole again, before pulling herself out and clambering on top of it, sitting cross legged, "Sure thing, Alien Girl. Earth's full of metal- heck, I got iron in my blood, apparently. But you can't get that out here, you'd have to go in towards the coast- got cities out there, I'm sure there's something." She explained, popping her knuckles in an absent motion. Her hands always seemed to be moving, fidgeting with her knife or a bit of wood, tapping along the surface of nearby trees or pulling apart a leaf.

[[Ok but I can't get the image of her chewing bubble gum out of my head, it just seems to fit with her for some reason? Like not the really aggressive chewing, but you can definitely tell she's chewing bubblegum, not the kind of stealth chewing you do during class]]

  • (That definitely feels like something she would do. That also got me thinking abt the crystal gems and i feel like amethyst would probably love bubble gum. i cant recall if they ever show her chewing any but i bet she would love getting as many pieces as possible and chewing them and blowing huge bubbles)

Topaz had a thousand and ones questions. The longer she stuck around and thought about it and listened, the more curious she became. She knew only a very little bit about Earth. Of course, she knew the Homeworld tried to conquer it a long time ago. And she knew the infamous Crystal Gems stopped them. She had used the homeworld databases to do some research on Earth, but now that she was here, she wanted to know more. What were cars like? And the human cities?

Topaz frowned and crossed her arms over her chest. "Told you, my name is Topaz." Maybe she shouldn't have called herself an alien in the first place. "And can you show me where to get some kind of metal? I need it to try and repair my pod." And she wanted to see more of Earth. She wondered if this "coast" was anywhere near where the crystal gems were.

  • Could she show her where to get metal. Of course. Aella weighed the possibilities in her head for a moment- it was a quite a ways to hike out, or they could take the river, except that would require a raft, and she wasn't entirely sure if she knew where one was anymore. She frowned thoughtfully, mulling around the idea of town. She hadn't been into town in ages, it could be interesting to visit.

"Sure." She finally agreed, "Yeah. I can take you into town, but we'll...uh, well the shortest way I think, is if we hike out that-a-way," She geastured in a fairly indistinct direction, "And take the river down, till it's parallel from the road, and then we can catch a ride from someone, or hike some more. And we won't leave until-" She hesitated. She wanted to get a full rest before heading out, but it made more sense to travel into town during the day time.
"Noon. Noonish, we can leave around then, just lemme catch a few Z's and grab some stuff." She said, looking only slightly dejected, "You gonna hang around here, or d'you want to come back to my place?" She asked, stepping away from the machine.

[[oh my god can you imagine if she got bubblegum in her hair though because that would be such a disaster
Also I'm really glad this thread is pretty light because I'm writing with someone else and the thread is just SO FEELSY and I'm dead. I killed off a character and now I'm dead.]]

  • (oh boy. i can see her trying to blow gigantic bubble and it pops and its everywhere and Pearl its like "AMETHYST"
and who says im keeping it light >:D . just kidding tbh. its too early for murder just yet. tho that reminds me of this vague plotline i have been thinking about for AgES.)

Topaz could only assume noon wasn't too far off. She didn't remember all the measurements of time that humans used, but she did remember basics. Day and nights were usually somewhat equal length, and noon was the middle of the day. In fact, it wasn't that different from a few other planets. All the directions didn't make sense to her, but she wasn't very concerned. At least she could hopefully fix her ship, and see more of Earth.

"What are Z's?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. "Food or something?" she had see plenty of earth creatures. Maybe one of them was a 'z', whatever that was. "And I'll follow you, I suppose. Unless there are any other humans that might find my ship." she hadn't seen any humans, and she got the impression that Aella lived far away from most people.

  • "Z's- like, sleep. I actually don't know why people call sleep Z's, but I usually sleep during the day." She explained- of course, she hadn't really been exposed to cartoons with people sleeping, little z snores floating around their drawn heads. She had just picked up the term from... Someone. Aella shook her head, clearing it- every time she tried to delve back into her memory, she started feeling uncomfortable, like bee's buzzing around in her body, trying to push out of her fingertips. Better to live in the past.

"There probably wont be any researchers- I mean..." She hesitated, trying to decide if anyone would have noticed something crashing this far out into the brush, "Probably not." She shrugged once, before heading back into the trees, feeling surprisingly unmotivated to go flying through the branches again. She wasn't accustomed to working with someone else in her schedule- if it had been just her, she'd be asleep at that moment.
    Aliens.

[[NinE NO. Besides, these two haven't nearly developed a close enough relationship yet for that kind of emotional trauma, so I think I'm pretty safe for now.
also a vague plotline you've had for ages concerns me and it's toO EARLY FOR MURDER
AND BY TOO EARLY I MEAN TOO LATE BECAUSE I'M TIRED]]
