"Don't tell Hazelfur." He mewed stiffly, limping after the medicine cat. "She worries." He knew that it was true. Hazelfur had fussed over him since their time spent together, telling him to not go out alone and he'd always managed to ditch the cat that Hazelfur had asked to go with him, meeting up again near the camp entrance just to have her see that he hadn't been alone. He'd always put up a front and never listened. Today was the one day he didn't abandon his hunting patrol.

"And she has a good reason to," Spottedpool mewed in response as she turned back to Darksun. She was already working on nettle leaves to apply on his paw. "But if that's what you want, I won't tell her," she added softly. "I know how you don't like her worrying." The young pretty medicine cat then pushed a few small poppy seeds towards the warrior. "Here, take this. It'll help to numb the pain." Then she began spreading the pulp for his swollen paw.
-
Darksun licked up the poppy seeds obediently and swallowed while his eyes watched the she-cat work. He knew Owlfeather had left the Clan to help Lionstar start up HillClan, who now called the highlands home. Darksun couldn't help but flick an ear. "Has StarClan told you anything of Thistlefang?"
-
Spottedpool lifted her head once she was done. Then her gaze went to Darksun's face at his question. "Well," she began. "I didn't receive a lot of detail, or a dream in fact. But I did receive a sign... A warning, perhaps. It happened when I was outside, gathering herbs." She took a moment to think. "I wasn't told that he'd come back, but I also wasn't told that he won't stay away. I suppose that's what StarClan was saying, to be careful Darksun," she mewed in a gentle tone.
-
Darksun didn't say anything and instead gave a small nod. "I'll try," he mewed. "For the sake of my kits." As though his words had summoned them, Snowkit and Graykit both ran into the clearing, squealing in delight as they chased a butterfly. Graykit was the one who caught it while Snowkit was the one who noticed Spottedpool and fluffed up her fur, her ears flicking back.
"The-the molted gray tom said we could catch it!" she mewed defensively, as though trying to justify their actions. -
Spottedpool smiled and slowly shook her head, not able to hold back a purr. "Yes, for them, Darksun," she said to him before padding over towards the kits. "Oh Snowkit, you know what I've told you about chasing butterflies." She then looked to Graykit, who had managed to catch the flying insect. Her whiskers twitched amusedly. "Although I must admit, Graykit was quick to catch it."
Dustkit then suddenly appeared from behind the medicine cat. Where he had come from, Spottedpool wasn't even sure. Kits would be kits. "Are you in trouble again?" He mewed, blinking at his sisters with a laugh.
-
"No!" Snowkit squeaked indignantly at her brother before raising her head up to Spottedpool. "But the molted gray tom said we could!" She flicked her tail to a corner of the clearing where she could clearly see a tom crouching there, his pale silvery pelt matted in places. He looked ancient and was gazing at Snowkit with a calm gaze, as though he knew exactly that she could see him while Graykit couldn't. The young molted gray she-kit straightened up after tearing off one of the butterfly's wings. She would make a great warrior. "He's standing over there!"
"No one's there, Snowkit." Graykit mewed with a shake of her head. "You've been so weird since sunhigh!" Snowkit shuffled her paws and looked down at the ground.
"I'm not trying to be weird..." Darksun's eyes sparked and he instantly was at Spottedpool's side.
"Snowkit's not weird, Graykit." He mewed firmly. "She's her own cat."
"But it's weird that she says that there are cats there when there's not!" Graykit squeaked indignantly. -
Spottedpool looked over at Darksun, shooting him a look. Her kindness in her eyes did not disappear, but the seriousness returned to the young cat's face. "Darksun, what did I tell you about waiting for me there?" She mewed, keeping it somewhat ambiguous so that she didn't mention in front of the kits why he had to return back to her den. Then she turned back to Snowkit, eyes bright. Her tail flicked out behind her sharply. "Snowkit, come with me. Show me where this gray tom is."
-
Darksun couldn't help but twitch his whiskers in amusement at Spottedpool's words and sat down with his paw lightly resting on the ground while Snowkit flicked her small tail and trotted over to where the tom was sitting. "He's right here!" Snowkit squeaked, staring at the gray tom as though he was really there despite his pelt being faded. "I don't know his name, but he's here!" Her head turned to Spottedpool and her eyes seemed dull with sadness. "Why can't anyone else see him? He's here just as you and Darksun are!"
(lol she's pretty much like Goosefeather if you've read his story, Goosefeather's Curse. I have and I loved it! ^_^ I might read those again :D)
-
(Nope, haven't read it xD)
Spottedpool followed after the young kit and looked to where she was gesturing at. Her eyes widened at the familiar glittering of a StarClan cat pelt. But she seemed to be more surprised at the fact that Snowkit could see him. "Snowkit, when did you first notice?"
-
(O_O READ IT!!
it's amazing and I love it! ^_^ but you'll want to get the book with 3 stories in one. It's called Shadows of the Clans and it has Mapleshade's Vengeance, Goosefeather's Curse and Ravenpaw's Farewell I think. They're amazing! And reason why I suggest this is because Mapleshade's Vengeance is coupled with Goosefeather, so yea ^_^ lol. I'm also reading Moth Flight's Vision and am about halfway through. i LOVE IT!! >.<)Snowkit shuffled her paws. "Well," she mewed quietly, no longer as energetic as before. "I've heard voices before when I was smaller, but not seen anyone. It's only recent that I can see cats." She took a pause for a moment before raising a paw to jab at the pale silvery tom crouching near them. "But he said it was okay to catch that butterfly!"
-
(Ohhh thats so cool! I always thought Mapleshade would have some devastasting back story lol )
Spottedpool looked to the StarClan cat again. Judging by his pelt, he seemed to be almost as old as the other StarClan cats from the legendary four clans. "...If he said so, then I suppose its fine. But you shouldn't go killing every butterfly you see," she mewed softly with a hint of amusement. Snowkit... A thought entered her mind. Maybe this kit was born to become a medicine cat.
-
(OMG It is so tragic!
Her actions even got her into the Dark Forest!)Snowkit turned her head back to the pale silvery colored tom before she went back to her littermates just as Graykit suggested playing hide and seek around the camp. "Snowkit can seek!"
"That's not fair! I sought last time!" Snowkit squealed as she and Graykit charged out of the den while the tom turned his gaze upon Spottedpool, fading to her eyes but his scent lingered, telling of his home in the old forest. -
(I know, thats why I'm curious! xD)
Spottedpool stood there, waiting and watching until she was sure he was gone. At least, his presence. She then turned and watched Dustkit race after his sisters, laughing. A feeling told her that something might be in store for these three kits. After a few more seconds of watching Spottedpool headed back to her den, calling for Darksun to come in too so that he could rest.
(I just remembered and I'm curious, when is Firestar and Goosefeather coming back? Well, like their reincarnations I guess lol )
-
(XD well..let me see.
Goosefeather wasn't around when Firestar came to the Clan. He was 3 generations removed from Firestar's generation, because of Spottedleaf. Spottedleaf was trained by Featherwhisker, who was trained by Goosefeather who was trained by Cloudberry, formerly of RiverClan.(She's in his story) So...I guess when Lightsky becomes leader? And then her deputy will be doomed to leave the Clan during his last life to live as a Kittypet, as Pinestar did, and the new Goosefeather(probably Goosewing) won't be able to do anything about it. :) and then 3 generations later, Firestar will come to the clan :D)
Darksun watched his kits leave the den before he limped over to Spottedpool and settled down in a nest with a soft sigh, his swollen paw sticking out awkwardly from the nest. "What did you want Snowkit to show you?"
-
(OHH okay lol )
Spottedpool sat down lightly, her delicate tail swishing from side to side behind her. She smiled at Darksun. "I just wanted her to show me who this mottled gray tom was," she explained softly. "I wanted to know what she was talking about." The medicine cat wondered if Darksun would think Snowkit was crazy if she explained to him that it was actually a StarClan cat, and that there was a reason why Graykit or Dustkit couldn't see him. But she doubted it; he had seen a Dark Forest cat after all.
-
(I just realized that I wanna keep the ancient cats as the actual cats in the books XD so it was Featherwhisker that Snowkit saw and he's a pale silvery cat with long whiskers)
"Did you recognize him?" Darksun asked, curiosity in his mew. "The cat Snowkit saw, I mean." He didn't know what was wrong with his daughter. It was probably nothing, or it could be something. He certainly didn't know and didn't want to push it any further in case Spottedpool went on to say about how she thought StarClan did something to Snowkit. He didn't want to think that his daughter was any different than her siblings.
-
(Lol okay )
Spottedpool gave a slow nod of her head. "I did recognize him, Darksun. He was from the anciet clan, ThunderClan to be precise. He was a medicine cat at the time. Why he was there, and why Snowkit was able to see him... I'm not quite sure. The best bet I have come up with is that Snowkit may have the path of a medicine cat before her."
-
Darksun remained silent. One of his kits, a medicine cat? He never thought about it and lashed his tail. "Isn't there any way for her to be a warrior?" He questioned, his voice hardening instantly, as though he didn't like the idea of one of his kits speaking with their warrior ancestors. Then he heard the yowl of Graykit.
"You had to have cheated!" Snowkit's followed soon after.
"I didn't! The blue-furred she-cat told me where you were!"
"There's no one there, Snowkit! Stop being so weird!" Graykit hissed before stalking off. "Come on, Dustkit. Let's play something else without Snowkit.""Mama! It's not fair!" Snowkit wailed. Darksun guessed she'd gone straight to her mother.
-
Spottedpool then glanced sideways at Darksun. "Do you see this, Darksun? Look at Snowkit. I understand you want your kits to the best warriors they can be, but a medicine cat is just as high an honour."
Hazelfur, who had been watching her kits from a spot outside the nursery's entrance, sat up just as the kit came over wailing. She gazed sympathetically at her, then looked up. "Graykit! Come here. You too, Dustkit."
