Oliver Smith
A short, lean figure against the wall of the Pokemon Center, a firey look in his deep brown eyes. Said figure was Oliver Smith, a young man of the Kanto region. The only reason he was in the Pokemon Center was too, of course, heal his Pokemon. Oliver has just had a battle with... Him. Him being Oliver's rival since forever. He didn't like him at all, and Oliver assumed the feelings were mutual. A sigh of discontent and a run of fingers through shaggy blonde hair showed how ready he was to leave and continue on his journey.

cyrus mcfee, a young man with a relatively average height and average figure, paced the pokemon center, occasionally casting glances at his rival, oliver. it wasn't like he was nervous, or anything - he knew his pokemon would be alright. he just wanted to be on the move. one of the reasons he had left home in the first place was because he could never stay in one place for too long. he let out a quiet sigh, pushing one hand through the hair he had dyed bright purple, styled in an undercut fashion. there was no particularly large reason that it was that way - he simply happened to like the color, and it was easy to style, though there were often misconceptions.
turning his hazel eyes towards oliver, he decided to start a conversation. even if a fight ended up breaking out - as it had in the past - at least it would pass the time a little faster. he stopped pacing. really, he wasn't even sure why he hated the other boy. it had just sort of... happened. perhaps, if oliver wasn't such an arrogant b.stard, they'd have been friends. "that was a... good match. nice job." unfortunately, his rival had ended up winning the battle (unless you'd rather cyrus had won?). while he'd much rather ignore the victory, he believed in credit where credit was due.

When Cyrus opened his mouth to speak, Oliver was sure an insult would come. However, he was somewhat surprised to hear the congratulation. Okay, maybe he was exaggerating. Even though they hated each other, at least they were both honorable. "Yes, you and your Pokemon fought... Well." Even if they were both honorable, it was still hard to give compliments to Cyrus. But we fought harder. Yes, this was quite the snarky thought, but Oliver meant it.
The firey look in his eyes had heatened as he glanced at his rival. The longer he was near this guy, the more irritated he got. The sooner he got his Pokemon back, the sooner they could both go on their merry ways.

oliver's compliment had sounded strained, just as cyrus's had. still, at least the other boy wasn't gloating - though he didn't doubt that that would come later. in fact, he was more than a little surprised that it hadn't started already. cyrus resumed his pacing after a moment of silence, murmuring a half-hearted "thanks". though he was normally a cheerful person, losing always put him in a sullen mood, especially when it was to his rival. he hadn't even lost by much - perhaps if his pokemon had been able to stick it out a little longer...
not that he blamed his pokemon, of course. it was always the trainer's fault - that was the motto that he had been raised by, and the one he would stick to. it was his own lack of skill that had caused their loss.
looking towards oliver, he bit his lip, debating on continuing the conversation. what were they supposed to talk about? though he could normally easily talk to someone, how was he supposed to converse with someone who hated his very guts - especially when he hated the other boy, as well?
"so, uh..." cyrus paused, searching for a conversation topic. "see any interesting sights?" though they appeared to take the same basic route, for the most part, they tended to avoid being anywhere near each other - he had noticed that they ended up taking different paths most of the time.

It took Oliver a moment to process Cyrus's question. He had been quite lost in his thoughts. He quickly snapped out of it and put on a casual appearance to mask his surprise. "I visited Lavender Town. Everyone went on about how it was haunted, but nothing strange happened..." This was said somewhat lamely. Unfortunately, Oliver hadn't seen much on his journey. "I also went to the Safari Zone, cool Pokemon there." He gave a small shrug, as he didn't have much else to say.
"Well? What about you?" He asked, glancing at Cyrus. To be honest, their conversations usually didn't last this long. Most of the time they fought or battled, but didn't say much to each other. It was also not often they had pleasant conversations, if you could call it that.

cyrus nodded along, absently sending a glance towards the front desk. "ah, really? that's cool." he had yet to visit lavender town - the thought of that place creeped him out. whether they were rumors or the truth, he got scared easily. even if nothing strange happened, like oliver had said, if he happened to visit, he'd probably be on-edge the entire time.
"me? i didn't really do much." he said, shrugging. "i visited celadon city, and went to the game corner." he had lost a fair amount of money there, though that didn't really need to be said. he had earned a lot of it back, anyways. though he had done a lot of traveling other than that, he hadn't really visited any notable places, or seen any pokemon worth gloating about.

He gave a small nod, not quite sure what to say next. Oliver usually wasn't one to settle into awkward silence, but that might've been because he wasn't much of a talker. He might've tried to continue their small talk, but he wasn't sure what to say. What do you say to someone you hate? Oliver wasn't sure of topics to lengthen conversations. Which was strange to him, considering they were traveling the whole region.
When something finally came to him, he still didn't know why they were having such a normal conversation, without going at each other's throats. "So, uh, how's your journey been going? Well?"

the conversation lapsed into an awkward silence. it was rather frustrating, but cyrus supposed it couldn't be helped. what was he supposed to say to his rival? the only things he could think of weren't the most pleasant, and rather uncalled for, since they were both making attempts to be civil.
"well enough, i guess." he said, shrugging. "it's never boring, at least. what about yours?" really, that was all he asked for - excitement. the challenges of a journey. he supposed he had oliver to thank, partially, since their battles were exciting - usually some of the more difficult ones.

"It's been quite the adventure." Oliver allowed a small smile to grace his lips, he couldn't never be upset while talking about his journey. Traveling was truly for the thrill seekers, and Oliver loved every second of it. It was... Somewhat, enhanced by having a competitor, but it would still be fine without.
From behind him came a small "Excuse me?" Turning around he was met with the cheerful face of Nurse Joy. "Both teams are all healed up, we hope to see you again soon!" With that the nurse offered two trays of pokeballs.
Quickly Oliver gathered up all of his Pokemon and put them in their appropriate places.

"Well, bye. Thanks for the talk." Even though his 'thank you' was a bit forced, Oliver meant it. Traveling was great and all, but you often got isolated far more times than one may desire. So, getting to talk with someone who wasn't a stranger or Pokemon was... Nice, to say the least.
Turning to walk away, Oliver glanced at Cyrus over his shoulder. A small twinge in his heart made him pause in his walking for a moment. Oliver truly hated Cyrus, but he couldn't help but feel sad walking away from him. Although it was someone he disliked, he was still a human being. As he had thought before, journeys got quite lonely, even with Pokemon. He contemplated, but only for a second, if he wanted stay for a while. Quickly realizing what he had thought, he laughed silently at himself before walking out of the center.
