[justify]Sandstone hummed absentmindedly as he walked in the cool shade of the trees. It was a relief not to be in the burning sun, if even for a short while. His dry paw pads were comforted my the feeling of soft grass and moss, and the leader let out a relieved sigh. He found a trickle of water, what was left in the bottom of a dry stream bed, and sat beside it, settling himself on the grass.
Sandstone began to think back on his life up to this moment, something quite painful for him. He thought of his time as a carefree apprentice, with Crim and Misty, Sheep and Cloudpaw. Back when Shatter was still alive. How Crimson and Misty had been perfect for each other, but after becoming Ichor, her boyfriend, then fiance, died. He had been there for her, and though the tom had never realized it, a connection developed between the pair of them. But Sheep, now Doublehelix, came between them, and asked Misty out. He had been angry, because that was when Sandstone had realized his feelings for Misty, and he had felt a little heartbroken too. When the two of them broke up, he took the chance to ask out the girl he loved, and things seemed to get so much better from there. Then Grace ruined things, and Misty was r.ped. But then she had their kittens, Milky and Cinni, and things seemed to get better as he tried to forget about the fact that Grace might come back. He loved his girlfriend, and both his sons, to the ends of the earth, but Cinni had betrayed them. Misty renamed herself to Betrayed star, and things only got worse from there. After Cinnimon had accidentally wound up in the same body as his mother, Cinnimonkit convinced her to commit suicide. Misty was dead. Grace she came back in the most awful way, possessing Milky and taking over his body completely. After she had been chased out, Misty returned, and he had forgiven her, been able to love her again. She promised never to let them be apart again, and he had been about to propose, something he had been putting off for so long because of her time as Betrayedstar, but he was finally going to do it.
But then she disappeared, forever.
That was when part of him, the part that loved Misty with incredible compassion, died. He gave up on the girl of his dreams, and she was left to exist only in memory. So he continued on, Milky being the only family of his left. He just pushed on, and distanced himself from her completely, dedicating himself to his clanmates and leading the Diverging.
Sandstone was distracted, thinking silently. Unannounced to him, a huge wolf lurked in the shadows, watching him. It took the leader by surprise when it lunged out, barreling into him at full force. The tom, outmatched by far, flailed as he tried to regain his balance and defend against his attacker. He had no time to react further as his head slammed into a rock in the dry stream bed, and everything went black.
"Well, looks like you got yourself into a little spot of trouble, didn't you?" The voice was strangely clear, and seemed to be inside his head, rather than entering his ears. The tom ground, squeezing his eyes as his head throbbed in pain. "This is kind of pathetic honestly, that rock can't even move and it defeated you." What was this voice anyway? Sandstone had no idea, but he responded anyways. "It wasn't the rock that defeated me, it was that stupid wolf, coming out of no where," he growled, attempting to raise himself off the ground. "Sure, sure, and that wolf didn't come out of 'nowhere' that's not possible, it was just hiding." The voice sounded as if it was explaining something incredibly obvious to someone stupid, and Sandstone was quickly getting more and more annoyed. "I know that it didn't come out of 'nowhere' it's a figure of speech," he said in a pissed-off tone. Dragging himself to his feet, the leader cringed as a wave of throbbing pain crash through his head, and he stood still until it went away. Moving out of the stream bed, Sandstone began to head back to camp, slowly becoming less and less groggy. "So, you're Sandsty right? Or was it Sandy, or Stoney, hmm, I'm not really sure," "Sandstone," the leader corrected irritably. "I don't even know why I'm telling you you're name, it's none of your business." A 'hmf' sound came from the disembodied voice, but Sandstone ignored it and kept walking. "Well, it's none of your business, but I'll be the bigger man and tell you that my name is Jack. Handsome Jack, actually, but most people are rude and don't even bother with the whole thing." The voice name another indigent sound, before falling silent for a few moments. "Where are you going anyway? Seriously, there's nothing out here," Sandstone said nothing, before replying. "Well, Jack," he said, placing emphases on the voice's name, "I actually live somewhere you know. What are you anyways? And where are you?" The voice was silent, and after a few paces, Sandstone came to a stop. "Well?" Jack finally answered. "What am I is a rather rude question, and doesn't matter, where am I is stupid, I'm right here you idiot." Sandstone raised an invisible eyebrow, "and where, exactly is 'here'?" He asked. "How am I supposed to know?" Jack replied, sounding agitated, "In some random forest, in your head, I don't know!" In my head? Sandstone thought, getting a bit worried. Was he just imagining this Jack character, or had he been possessed. "So other people can't hear you?" He asked, starting forward all of the sudden. "I don't know, why do you expect me to know all these things, I was just suddenly here, so I can't help you buddy. Buddy in a sarcastic sense. I'm not being friendly." Sandstone rolled his eyes at Jack's last comment, and kept walking forward at a brisk pace. He wanted to get back to camp as soon as he could.
This was going to be interesting.
