Echo nodded. "I know what you mean, about the need to wander." She glanced around at the charred, smoldering forest. "Guess this is a new start for both of us, huh? A sign that it's time to move on." She looked thoughtful. For all that she would miss this place and she was sad that it was gone, she was starting to feel a little excited. Her options were open now, she could go anywhere, see what the world had to offer.

״yeah..." Fen looked at the black cat from the corner of her eye, deep in thought. She scanned the forest, taking in the area in front of her, before stopping abruptly, "turn to the right. The ash isn't smoking that way. We will find clear forest that way. Where the river bends." She turned, her long tail swishing against the ground, "what are you doing all alone anyways? No handsome mate or kits? You seem like that type."[/fancypost]

Echo nodded and veered right after the other she-cat, limping along. The pain had eased up now that it was bound with cobwebs, but she still didn't trust it to hold her full weight. At Fen's question, she hesitated. After a long pause, she meowed, "Toms aren't really my type, to tell you the truth. I don't know why, I just can't see myself ending up with one." She shrugged. "Must be something wrong with me, eh?" Her tone lightened as she attempted to joke. Of course, she could see herself with a she-cat, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to share that yet. Some cats got really weird if she told them, and she sort of needed this cat to continue liking her.

Fen stumbled, her foot scraping uncomfortably against a rock. She knew the she cat couldn't possibly be insinuating what she came to the conclusion of. She looked hesitantly over her shoulder, before turning back, her whiskers twitching. "Nothing wrong with you... No." The scruffy she cat had always preferred she cats. But she wasn't one to outright say it. She was close to making a friend. She didn't want to screw it up.

Echo picked her way around a smoking coal. "Are you okay?" She asked with a frown of concern, seeing Fen stumble. Inwardly, she wanted to purr. So far, so good, and this she-cat didn't hate her yet. Her response had even been... oddly understanding. She quelled the leap of heart before she got her hopes up. It was no use jumping to conclusions, clinging to strands of hope, that just ended up in heartbreak. No, if this she-cat was... the same as herself... then she'd find out her usual way. Waiting and watching and testing, until she could settle on the truth. Might mean she'd have to find an excuse to hang around with Fen for a little while, but if she needed to she'd play on her injury. She usually didn't like showing weakness, especially fake weakness, but for this case she might make an exception. Maybe. If she needed to.

Feb laughed softly, shaking her paw off, "I'll be fine. Don't worry." She turned forward, feeling her skin flush beneath her fur. She needed to get her shit together. Looking up in front of her, she sped up a bit, tail flicking as she tried to navigate the now ashen forest, "we should get to the river before the sun comes up. Then it's just clear land until the barn." She Didn't want to get her hopes up.[/fancypost]

OOC: Hey, just wanted to let you know I'll be gone the rest of today, all of tomorrow, and a bit of Sunday. I'm going backpacking with some friends, and there's no wifi in the forest! xD
IC: Echo nodded and smiled ruefully. "It will be nice to put all this behind me." She meowed. Her fur was covered in ash and soot, and she was looking forward to getting cleaned up and catching a few fat farm mice. She sped up to match Fen's pace again, paws pattering lightly through the ash, occasionally sending up small poofs of dust. The black she-cat kept a few pawsteps behind her calico counterpart, so she could watch her.

The lanky cat tried to keep an eye out for any cobwebs, but knew any in this area were the first things to burn up in the blaze. She wanted to get to the river before sunrise, so they could rest on the opposite bank without fear of a stray ember killing them. Hesitantly, she looked over her shoulder, speaking softly, "so, if you have no family, no mate, how did you keep company in such a lonesome forest? I would be driven crazy if it were me." That wasn't true. She'd been alone since the city. But it was quite awful at that span of time.((So about like a month ago I did a thread where fen ended up pregnant, but after the character she got pregnant with left the thread, I never really pursued it. Should I play her as pregnant in this thread or nah?))

((You can if you want! I don't really mind either way.))
Echo shrugged. "I don't know, I guess I've always been a bit of a loner. I didn't really feel the need to seek out other cats." She paused, thinking. "It was a little lonely, sometimes, but I was happy enough. Guess you can't long for what you've never really had, right? It didn't bother me." Now that she was in company again, and actually talking to another cat, she found it to be nice, just to have companionship. But while she'd been living alone, the occasional stray kitty passing through was enough.

(( I think I will. It'll add more plot haha. Plus kittens yo))The she cat didn't speak for a Long while, trekking through the once
Serene woodlands in meditative silence. She was quite disappointed as she looked through the destroyed landscape. She thought it would be a great place to wait out her delivery, before delivering them at newmoons barn and leaving them there. But she didn't mind making a new friend however. Soon enough, they reached the river. Hesitantly, the nimble cat backed up, before leaping forward and landing on the other side. The extra weight in her body threw her off balance, sending her stumbling sideways. She sat up easily, before gesturing with her head for Echo to follow.
[/fancypost][/fancypost]
-
((Okay, sounds good! c: How far into her pregnancy is she, just so I know if Echo should notice or not?))
Echo glanced down at the water, which was swirling with ash but seemed otherwise unchanged. Then she took a couple steps backwards to get a running start, and leaped forward. She cleared the river surprisingly easily, although the impact of the landing jarred her leg and she let out a small hiss of pain. Giving herself a quick shake, she glanced at Fen, then at the sky. It was starting to lighten, turning from inky black to the light greyish-blue of twilight. The sun would be up soon. "Shall we rest here a moment?" The black cat proposed.

"This would be a good place, yes." While she was strong, and nothing if not fit, she was growing weary. Carrying a heavy weight within her took its toll. She could feel them with every step, their feet jabbing into her gut with every leap. She hated it. She was lucky it didn't make her sick. She hated vomit. Once she started she couldn't stop. She would vomit in disgust until it hurt too much to retch. She purred as her weight was hefted off of her feet, "I love the morning. Though, I'm not usually awake to see it."((she's just barely 6 weeks along. So you can tell, but only if you're looking.))
[/fancypost][/fancypost]
-
((Okay, so I won't have her notice quite yet, maybe in a little while.))
Echo nodded and lay down, stretching out on the grass so her weight was off her bad leg. "I'm more a night cat myself." She purred. "But even I have to admit the sunrise sure is pretty." She turned her pale yellow eyes to the glow on the horizon, the burnt forest to her back. She was tempted to groom the ash and soot from her pelt, but she didn't fancy having the taste on her tongue. She decided to wait and wash in a stream somewhere, though preferably one cleaner than the river they'd just crossed.

The slim (even in pregnancy) cat sat straight, her back arched perfectly, trained and poised. Sea-green eyes sharp, she searched her surroundings, ears perked and nose twitching. She wasn't a traditionally pretty cat. Her coat was scruffy, virtually ungroomable. Her ears were a bit too big and her tail a little too short. Her raggy bandana made her look too domesticated for her surroundings, and her voice was a big too coarse to be considered elegant. But she was pretty in her own way. She watched the black she-cat from the corner of her eye, trying to seem discreet, "I love the night, but I've never been good at finding my way in the dark. The morning is so pretty... very still. I can stop and think without the sounds of the forest interrupting me. I don't know. The sun is beautiful, honestly."[/fancypost]
[/fancypost]
-
Echo tilted her head, as if considering the other she-cat's points. "Yes, I won't deny that the sun is bright and wonderful. But at night the stars come out. Their light is colder, I suppose, but so beautiful and silver. And at night... I blend in. I fit there." It was easier to hide herself in darkness, easier to find herself in the glittering of stars. In the light she had to put up her walls and her mask. The black she-cat stretched out further and glanced over at Fen with pale yellow eyes.

[fancypost bordercolor=transparent; width: 450px; height: 340px; background:url(http://i.imgur.com/ZLrQZBu.png);]
[fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: dotted 8px pink; width: 230px; height: 180px; margin-left: 30px; margin-top: 40px; overflow:auto; color: green; font-size: 12px;]
The calico watched the cat talk curiously, "yeah... I suppose you'd for on well, yeah? Bet some would mistake your eyes as stars." Fen averted her eyes, watching her toes, "I was taught in my youth that the NOGHT was a dangerous time- a time when Villians came out. It took me a long time to realize Villians were not confined within the hours of the dark, and in fact most lurked during the day. But the idea remains in my head, I suppose."[/fancypost]
[/fancypost]
-
Echo smiled. "I was taught those superstitions as a kit, too. To be honest, that was probably the first thing that appealed to me. When I was little, I liked the idea of being that mysterious force that others only talked about in whispers, blending in with the dark, becoming part of it, only me that could adapt and use it-- a silly dream of course, but my love of the night remains." She laughed softly. "I didn't want to be the 'bad guy', exactly, I just liked the idea of being part of something bigger. I'm sure most kits share the same sort of dillusions, though I think mine might have scared my mother a little." The slight black cat sat up and curled her tail around her paws.

"I suppose most kits do..." She trailed off, her long tail flicking thoughtfully, "Have you ever had kits of your own, Echo?" She looked out into the water, wondering if the she-cat had ever had a lover, or fling. She was a gorgeous cat there was no denying. There had to be one or two toms in her life from before, or maybe more. Fen held in her snort of amusement, if her scrawny self could manage to get a tom inteterested Echo must have them leaping at her from every corner.
[/fancypost][/fancypost]
-
Echo looked away and shook her head. "No... No, I've never had kits. There have been a couple toms, passing through, that have tried to-- Well, they left with a couple new scars, to say the least. I've never met a tom I've been interested in, and besides, most of them don't really want me, you know? They think because I'm small and my fur is kinda nice that they can just worm their way in, playing the protector, and that I'll be so eternally grateful that I'll just give them my body, give them some pretty kits. But I can take care of myself, I don't need a protector. So those little charades didn't turn out too well." She chuckled, then trailed off. "But anyway, it doesn't matter. I don't think I can have kits."

"We've all fallen for the protector before," Fen looked down at her vaguely swollen belly, before tilting her head up at Echo, eyes alight with curiosity, "why couldn't you have lots? I mean, if you don't mind me asking..." She was vaguely excited at the lack of history the beautiful she cat had. Could it be that she had a different... Preference? She hesitated, before shifting more to turn and face the pretty she.[/fancypost]
