  • Jewel stood in silence allowing him to tighten the harness though her worry was beginning to grow. "Why aren't you in this stupid thing instead of me?" She asked under her breath with a huff of annoyance.

River's eyes widened slightly and his smile disappeared at the information. "What? What kind of father would ever think it's okay to put his hand on his child that way?" He growled, the anger was clear in his words but worry was in his eyes as he held her gently.

"Ah so you really were creeping on people." Julia responded in a light hearted tone before glancing down to her hands, her fingers tapping against the table "Two weeks, and yours?" She asked curiously, in the back of her mind hoping he would say a month at least.

Jacob slowly shook his head "No I promise there isn't anything to be said. If there was I would tell you." He said slowly before wrapping his arms around her in a warm embrace

  • "Well Princess. I have already seen what goes on out there and they don't feel like training another Commander for the Unmatched. Too much work they already put into me since not many people live through this." He told her simply before adding "But don't worry you have about a thirty percent chance of survival. They tell us we can take volunteers or any person who shows signs of rebelling." He told her as he finished everything up. "Alrighty Princess, you're ready!" He told her and took her arm.

  • Jewel listened in silence before a look of anger crossed her face when he said he was picking her because she showed signs of rebelling. She snatched her arm away quickly "And just what exactly makes you think I'm going to rebel huh? Me volunteering to jump first? Me picking a room first?" She snapped angrily before a butter smile crossed her face "oh but then I guess you could consider that rebelling, me moving away from you. I think someone needs to give you a dictionary for Christmas honey cause not a single thing I've done stands for grounds of rebelling not even this right here. I didn't volunteer to do this and if there's a chance of me dying there's no way I ever will." She ground out slowly

  • Tessa simply shrugged. "It was a long time ago and I have grown because of it. I realized that not everyone will understand my hope for freedom and that's how it goes." She simply stated before adding. "What about you? Tell me something you haven't told me yet. Something I won't know."

  • River slowly nodded his head in understanding before looking up to the sky to think "Hmm well when I was younger I had a little brother who was only younger by two years. I was twelve and my parents went to work so I was making lunch for me and him one day, I didn't know he was allergic to cinnamon and gave him some cinnamon applesauce. At first nothing happened but then it was really slow and it looked so painful. My little ten year old brother just couldn't breath anymore and choked to death and I..." He paused for a moment to look at her, there was no tears in his eyes this wasn't a sore subject to him, not anymore at least "I didn't call for help, I watched him die and when my mother returned home I told her I didn't know what happened, that he got into it himself." River slowly let go of her to place his hands in his pockets, expecting her to freak out and leave him anyways.

  • Riley's eyebrows raised in surprise. " My Birthday is one week and six days away, actually." He told her. Riley wasn't sure how thrilled he was about this though. That would mean the two would be married in about three weeks and Jewel was barely even cracking a smile around him. But, at the alter she would love him. No matter what, when they kissed Jewel would love him. Maybe then she'll be the companion he always hoped for.

Tori drank in his scent, and let out a sigh of relief before remembering her promise earlier. She gently pulled back and looked him into the eyes. "I'm not allowed to say this to anyone, but it is my duty as a partner to tell you everything so here it goes. That guy tonight, the one who kept watching us... He... I know him. Very well in fact. He has been around since as long as I can remember. He was my best friend, he taught me almost everything I know about life like how to ride a bike and how to throw a football. He was my everything but he was much older than I was.. There was a tragic accident and the girl he has been matched... Well she died. This is rare considering our society and technology. Well when she died... He left. He left his family. He left his friends. And he left me. I was only twelve at the time and he left me alone and crying because he lost her. They weren't even married. They hadn't even kissed! They went by the rule book and he still left to join the Unmatched. I don't know why he was glaring at us tonight... I really don't." She told him, gentle tears ready to flood out of her eyes, but Tori simply blinked them away. Refusing to cry over Blake. "How can a Big brother just leave his little sister like that? He just left me... When he knew he was my everything... When he left, the government forces everyone he knew, to forget him and never speak of him. They didn't want their mistakes made public. They forced by family to change our last name, so we no longer shared it with him. They cut him from us completely." Tori finished before adding "The guy's name is Blake, and Blake is my big brother. I promised to tell you, so there it is."
    [mergedate]1439700844[/mergedate]
"I could see it in your emotions, honey. Also for you information princess, I know what rebelling means and that attitude is enough to consider you the 'rebel' of this bunch. Thus you get to jump, and if you don't jump, well honey, I will simply push you. The higher survival rate is with the people who jump, simply because they aren't flailing around, less to grip if you are on the ground on the other side." he explained to her with a shrug before a slight sympathic look came to him. This girl kind of reminded Blake of his sister. Spunky, adventures, and has heart. Blake knew it would be cruel if he did this to his own sister, and this girl has a sister. He saw them together at the Banquet. But Blake still couldn't let her simply go and pick someone else. "I'll tell you what, you survive this with all the body parts need to function properly and your are traumatized by this, I'll let you pick the division you work in. Now as much crap you think that is, assigning you into a field that you aren't right for could very well lead to the destruction of life as we know it. So, I take my job very seriously. But if you live through this and can function properly, then you can pick the area of which you work. In due time, several years from now, you may have the opportunity to see your sister once more."

Tessa took a moment to disgust this information. He hadn't realized that his brother was allergic to applesauce, and he was young. He was probably scared and did what any other child would do. "It's okay." She put a comforting hand on his arm. "You were young and you didn't mean to. You were simply trying to do what was best for your brother and it ended up badly. I understand and I'm here for you." She spoke gracefully, like a mother would do for a child or a friend who needed help.

  • ((Hey im still here my phones completely shot and I wont be getting a new one till this saturday so ill try and get you a reply before then but it might have to be like one character at a time. Sorry about randomly disappearring))

Just like him Julias eyebrows raised iinin surprise. She could tell by the look in his eye that he was doubting the pairing just as she had. Her hands wrung together tightly until her knuckles where white. She didnt know what to say, her expression remained rather blank however especially compared to how she had reacted to things befors. "A day before mine." She finally murmured before lowering her head a bit, her bangs falling into her face and hiding the fact that she was smiling, her sisters birthday was a day after hers. "That'll be one busy week. " she laughed finally.

Jacob listened with an open heart, taking in every word she said and it wasn't hard to see how she got a bit bitter when it came to mentioning about how it was unnecessary for him to leave. "He loved her." He murmured softly when she finished "He loved her and didn't want to let go of her memories just to have them be replaced, even if they hadn't kissed he was still willing to keep her in his memory." He said before giving her a warm smile "And he was probably trying to seem intimidating in case I ever found out who he was." He said in a light tone trying to get her to smile.

Jewel gritted her teeth, wanting to yell and hit and just do everything in her power to hurt him as he continued to talk but when he told her he would allow her to pick where she would be working she grew cautious. Why would he be willing to allow her to do that? The mention of her sister caused visible pain to hit her, she grimaced "Don't give me empty promises Blake" She whispered, her voice husky with pain as she dropped all sarcasm. "I would rather not get my hopes up over something I know won't happen." She added flatly before turning and walking away. That spark that had been in her seemed completely diminished in the matter of seconds.

  • Riley laughed and scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah, it will be one crazy week." His laughter died down and the food was brought to them. Riley began to dig into a Cuban sandwich, that was one of his favorite foods. He took a bite before looking toward her. "How is it?" He asked her kindly. Riley wanted to start to get to know things about Julia, but wasn't really sure where to start with her being so shy.
    [mergedate]1442009745[/mergedate]
"He would have klet the memories. The government was going to set him up with a home, possibly even give him a child to raise but no. He said the memories hurt too much and just left." She thought aloud bitterly before taking a deep breath. Tori sighed, "Sorry. I am a bit sore over the subject." She told Jacob, trying to hide her emotions under a neutral layer.

  • Julia hadn't said anything after he agreed with her but she found herself wanting to hear him laugh more despite herself. She blushed and was glad to see her food come along as it had suddenly become the most interesting thing at the table to avoid looking his way. Julia had ordered herself a chicken salad sandwich and was more than pleased to find it was delicious. While she may have been a shy quiet girl she was very observant so to her it wasn't hard to notice the way he sat up straighter when the food arrived, how he watched with hungry eyes, just the subtle twitch of a finger before he picked it up and that little shine in his eyes when he took a bite. Obviously he was enjoying his food, what had he ordered again? Julia took a mental note of everything so far, if she was to be a good partner she wanted to be able to remember these little things to cheer him up.She almost hadn't noticed him talking to her or the fact that she had been staring. Swallowing hard she looked down quickly with a fierce blush "its really really good." She responded happily

Jacob wrapped his arms around tori lovingly "If its a sore subject than we won't talk about it anymore, not until you want to alright?" He promised with a gentle smile. He hoped he would never have to understand her brothers grief fully.

  • Blake rolled his eyes. He knew it was possible for Jewel to get a job to see her sister once more, though she would be taking over Blake's job and have to wait until her sister had kids of her own and they were at their matching ceremony. Or she could take a government position and work along side training and leadership as well as go back into the society. Blake walked out in front of the group, careful on the tall, narrow walls they stood on. "Everyone. Your life is about to change, but everything will become clear to you. Who we are, how we live, everything will become clear. Some of you will be changed though, beyond repair and will serve as no use to us. You don't want that happening. Anyway, I hope everyone has put on their equipment handed out. These are night vision binoculars that adjust to see a clear picture of everything below. Do not panic. If you do, you may either fall and kill yourself or cause mass destruction in our society." he told everyone before looking at Jewel. "You ready? Or am I gonna have to push you?"
    [mergedate]1442029801[/mergedate]
Tori gave him a soft smile, snuggling a bit into Jacob's arms. "Thank you for understanding. It's just because my birthday is so close, and we will be married in a sort time, I want to tell you as much about myself as possible. That includes my past. The ups and downs." She explained before looking into his eyes. "If you do not wish to share anything yet though, I understand. You'll tell me when you are ready." Tori told Jacob, sincerely
    [mergedate]1442029956[/mergedate]
Riley noticed Julia watching him, analyzing him. The blush of her face made it evident that she realized he caught her. Riley watched Julia's little moves and gave her a reassuring smile. Julia was trying to get to know him in her own way, thus Riley wasn't going to criticize her for it. "What are some of your favorite things? Such as color and food?" He asked, simply because this was Riley's way of learning people. He learned the basics from them and picked up on the little things about them as they discussed their favorites.

  • Jewel restrained herself to keep from making a snide remark instead she looked at Blake with a blank expression "Just tell me what you want me to do." She grumbled with a slight twinge of anger, her arms crossed and her eyes down.

Jacob gave her a gentle squeeze "Well don't worry about it to much, we can still get to know each other even after we're married. There isn't much for me to share though, I lost my parents when I was young and River and his family raised me." He said with a shrug as though it was a simply response.

She let out a soft hum as she thought about her answers. "Well I honestly don't have a favorite food,I'll eat nearly anything except shellfish, and for colors....I guess purple, though blue would be a close close second." She scratched the top of her head "I like doing anything artistic, anything to express what I see without saying it." She looked up at Riley and tilted her head to the side just ever so slightly "Have to be careful of what we say and do don't we?"

  • Blake looked her up and down and studied her a moment before finally he spoke. "I need you to jump off the ledge on this side," he directed toward the left side of himself "I would dive so get more velocity. I also would try and minimize your screaming. You will go down three times. No more. The bungee lose its speed after the third time and we would prefer to have you alive. Try to keep as possible. That's about it." Blake finished before addressing the others "Do not scream or cry out. If you do, you risk her life as well as ours thus keep your trap shut. If you start screaming and she is threatened, I would throw you down instead." He told them before nodding toward Jewel. "Jump when you're ready."
    [mergedate]1446432648[/mergedate]
Tori looked at him with eyes that reflected many conflicting emotions. Tori wanted to comfort him but she wasn't sure if he would appreciate that. Many that lost relatives hated to have sympathy. "We will be our own family," Tori chose her words carefully as if she was not only speaking go him but speaking to herself deep down. "We will make our home to fit each of us and we will lean on each other. We will be all each other needs." With soft, yet slightly calloused hands from all the years of dance, Tori reached up and gently grazed his cheek with her hands.
    [mergedate]1446433318[/mergedate]
Riley listened very carefully and with this last statement he realized how insightful Julia was. Not only was she insightful but she also liked to walk in that gray area of their society, as if to understand the world around her without submerging herself into it. "Yes, I suppose that's correct. But I also believe that honesty is the best way to handle many things. Though, expressing what you're seeing without saying it is very secretive. Like a code of sorts that you wrote and most any other person doesn't see." Riley discussed. Julia was also very bright it seemed, as if she had a different view on the world.

((OMG. This just gave me a major idea))

  • Jewel walked over to where he directed her and looked over the edge. She swallowed hard as she stared, she felt dizzy just looking down. Why did she have to do this? What was the point? She slowly looked back to Blake as he turned to the others and spoke. "Oh Lord." She whispered before turning back, tilting her head back to take a deep breath and then allowing her body to fall over the edge. She let out a sharp squeak that was audible to those she had just left but that was all, frequent gasps and pants escaped but no screams. Jewel squeezed her eyes shut tight as her body plunged downward, Blake's words ringing in her head as she tilted herself forward slightly causing her to fall faster. When the bungee had stretched to its limit it snapped her back quickly. She coughed as the harness pressed into her ches . As she was flung back up to the top the light sound of her laughter filled the air. It wasn't loud, just barely a whisper on the air and it wasn't long before she was heading back to the bottom again. By the time she had gone down three times she had completely forgotten what had happened, why she was there, but when she came back up to the top it all came flooding back. It didn't stop the light from reaching her eyes as she stumbled on weak legs towards Blake. "That was awesome!" She said quickly with a big grin. Her hair was sticking all over the place.

Jacob blinked a few times almost as if her words hadn't reached him but slowly a smile spread across his face. "And we'll be a beautiful family." He vowed as he leaned forward to touch his forehead to hers "And I promise to always love and protect you." He added gently.

Julia couldn't help but squirm in her seat slightly, was he reprimanding her? It didn't seem like it but she wasn't exactly sure so her next words where carefully thought over. "Sometimes secrets are needed in society. You can not possibly tell me that this society holds no secrets. That you truly do know everything." She wasn't being rude she was being honest. Honesty was what he wanted after all.

    (What is it?)

  • Blake as she jumped held a breath in. Creatures jumped at her, creatures that looked like humans in a sense but were all very different. They had animal like characteristics, sharp teeth, pointy ears, dark skin and no Sense of humanity. Many of the others began to panic, trying to keep their cries of terror inside. After her third bungee, Blake quickly pulled the chord and wound it up to bring her closer to the ledge, so she just dangled slightly off the ledge. Blake and one of the slightly less phased males pulled Jewel up as many of the other day crying or stared off as their worlds shattered. When Jewel said that, Blake sighed. She must have gone crazy along her jump and is now trying to deny the existence of these creatures. "I had hope for you.." He said with a sigh and began to unbuckle her, but not before one guy stood up. "No! This can't be real! You're lying to us! Those things don't exist- This madness is just some hoax!" He began to scream around but not without scratching being heard from below, scratching that meant these creatures could hear prey. Blake reared back and punched the guy in his head, knocking him unconscious. Blake went in quickly and found within a special place of the plane, he pulled out a sheep before he threw it over the ledge. This helped silence the scratching.

  • (You would choose something creepy af XD)

Julia didn't respond, her heart was still pounding from the plunge. Having kept her eyes shut the whole time she never saw the creatures but she definitely heard them, her mind told her it was just animals though. Watching Blake's reaction at the outburst truly brought her back to reality, this wasn't a place fit for fun and giggles. Her smile fell away and the light in her eyes disappeared. "Was that really necessary? I mean we're way up here safe from harm so what will a little bit of noise do?" She asked curiously as she listened to the sounds of the creature devour the sheep.

  • (( I want to make this intense lol.... And also I really want to respond to this real quick but I'll respond with the other characters soon))

Blake looked at her with eyes that showed his true emotions. Pity. "Yes. The creatures can climb. These walls are only so strong and if they have enough will power, they can take down the walls. This is our society and you are the selected ones who will know all of its secrets and will help protect your loved ones and neighbors from knowing the truth. The truth would bring destruction." He looked at Jewel while saying this but spoke aloud to the entire group.

  • ((Okay that's fine))

For the first time Jewel actually began to feel a little scared, that was their duty? How were kids supposed to uphold that much responsibility? She had so many questions to ask him though she didn't want to annoy him or even risk asking something she shouldn't ask yet so she resorted to a simpler question. "What are they?" Her voice shook slightly though she was rooted to the spot as a little bit of fear began to bloom.

  • The happiness Tori felt in that moment was something she never felt before. Her heart soared and her eyes reflected these emotions as she gazed into his own orbs. Her breath increased once she realized how close they were and her heart began thudding in her chest quickly.
