[justify][font=courier][color=black]A heavy heart recently started to burden her with it's immense weight, and she couldn't seem to put it down even when she tried. She felt like a lost cause after the rock avalanche that killed some of the cats in SageClan, ones of her bloodline. It did look like her fault as she was the one walking ahead of their hunting patrol, but even if it was because of her own mistakes the guilt was still there. As if it wasn't hard enough to remember, the rocks had snagged most of her tail leaving only a bob-like stump in it's place. She knew it was probably herself being too sensitive, yet thinking of her deceased friends plucked the logical reasoning from her brain leaving her sitting above a great height to think in loneliness.

The sight in front of her green eyes was not bad. It was an evergreen forest filled with pines and conifers and other dark colored trees covered in a blanket of mid leaf-bare snow. A large frozen lake sat in the middle of all of it. The only sound was the occasional, chilling breeze which she couldn't feel through numbness and thick ginger tabby fur. Not even the unfamiliar presence behind her could reach her dulled senses.

(I'd prefer your character being a loner or cat in another clan. I might think of having her run away or something along those lines c: Also, don't expect me to write this much on a daily basis xD I usually can manage a paragraph but I tend to get a lot of muse when it comes to first posts)

  • Basspelt's paws crunched against the snow. 'Why is it so cold?' He thought shaking his thick body. His giant paws stumbled in the snow. 'I miss home' his faded brown coat made him stick out like a sore thumb. He looked up from his tumble and saw a lone she cat. His pale green eyes studied her as she sat and he tried to get up but fell again.

  • [justify][font=courier][color=black]The sound still did not reach her until she actually turned around to head back to camp, defeated by her emotions and feeling strangely exhausted. But a clump of fur that was not there before on the ground caught her attention. She stood there, observing it for a moment until there was the realization that the "it" was a cat. The scent was not very familiar but she moved forward with great caution despite them being a stranger. Even if they were trespassing it would be even more heartbreaking to let someone die because she didn't help them.

"Uh...are you hurt, stranger? What do you need," she asked, exhaling puffs of white smoke before gingerly touching her nose to their shoulder as a gentle gesture. A sign to show she wasn't gonna bite. Not yet at least. Hopefully this wasn't some trick to get her captured by some enemy clan or rogues. She was kind of doubtful of that really.

  • Basspelt slowly sat so he didn't fall again. 'How do I show her I mean no harm? Basspelt wondered while looking away from the she-cats green eyes. "I'm fine, I just need shelter for alittle while. I don't know if you are a rouge, loner, or clan cat but either way I won't harm you."
'I can barely stand on my four paws let alone injure someone!' He thought. Basspelt looked at the she cat, then remembered,"I haven't even said my name! Let me fix that, I'm.... Bass." 'No need to tell strangers that I was a clan cat. They're not very liked among the rouge. Plus if she's from a different clan she'll ask questions, that I wouldn't be able to answer..... It's better this way.' He thought. Though he was sad it had come to him lying. Instead of focusing on that he studied the she cat, he green eyes were piercing and in general she was a attractive cat. Yet again he attempted to stand, almost fell, then stood though shakly and slowly walked.

    (Temporary fancypost! c:)

A halfhearted smile plastered to her face, some kind of effort to be nice to this "Bass" figure. Poor thing was too weak to even stand. How could he withstand this weather? "Well, Bass.....I'm Holly. Hollyfrost," she answered with a little bit of hesitance, her head turning in all directions as she searched for something that could be cover from the cold.

"Uh...wait here, I'll go look for something for you to stay in." Hollyfrost stood from her position next to the struggling tom and sprung off not too far away for a few minutes. Obviously she couldn't take him back to camp, whether she wanted to or not. They always chased off rogues if they went over the borders and it could get them both punished. Only a few yards away was an abandoned fox den that she just barely noticed with the darkness surrounded by inches of snow. Convenient for her. The feline hurried back, her fur specked with hundreds of white flakes.

"There's an old den over there. Do you want to lean on?..." As she spoke with words turning quiet and leaving the sentence unfinished, Hollyfrost pressed lightly against his side to offer support. For some reason it was both nerve-wracking and comforting to feel the warmth of his fur. She thought it could be the simple fact that he was someone she barely knew anything about. Kind of awkward in a sense, but that wasn't the real reason.

  • "You h-have s-someplace?" Bass chattered. 'Hollyfrost seems nervous', he thought. His brain slowed down and all he could think was cold. His legs were numb now and he moved them so he could feel a little bit. He watched his breath turn into a cloud the dissipate as he followed her direction.

Hollyfrost stayed silent until they reached what was the empty burrow. An answer she didn't need to give. It wasn't very big but it still had enough room for two inside. Entering the small burrow, she discovered that it was surprisingly warmer compared to the powdery surface. Not completely warm, you could still feel a chill every now and then, but better than nothing.

"I guess you could rest in here for now." Hollyfrost paused for a brief moment to think about the situation, trying to decide whether or not to help him anymore. She could go sneak prey away from the clan's freshkill pile, but that would take some time and effort to walk there, avoid getting seen, and get back. Perhaps there was a hare running around that she could hunt? Why was she even trying so hard to help anyway? Maybe the feeling of making up for what she did earlier. To at least put some confidence in herself.
"Why not you stay here and I go find something to eat? This will at least keep you from catching a chill or something."

(It would be appreciated if you could be a little more literate c: Nothing too much! It's just hard to maintain my muse when replying to shorter responses)

  • Ooc:Totally fine!

Bass looked around the hole he would call home for now,'Well this definitely isn't hers, It doesn't have her scent, or a least the scent that I could smell in the cold." His chill started to go down as the warmth seeped in. Still bursts of cold would blast in from time to time but he could feel his whole body and think properly. 'She doesn't say much,' he pondered,'She must have nothing to say!' He said trying to think of something else. Her fur, her eyes, her scent, reminded him of- 'What's done is done.' He reminded himself, so he thought about Hollyfrost. 'She seemed so sober,so lonely,'Every cat has their regrets, their mistakes including me.' He decided to let her have her peace.

He looked outside,"How can anyone hunt in THAT?" He exclaimed. He stuck one of his paws out into the cold. It slowly went numb again and he retracted it back. he started to lick the pads that were numb. 'Well I certainly wasn't built for snow! I was built for rushing water, big banks and fishing!' The thought of fish made him hungry and his stomach growled. 'Hope she gets back soon.' He thought as his tail wished around the dirt in the low hanging hole.

Roots hung from the ceiling and it wasn't terribly deep, but not shallow either. The dirt was no longer frozen because of his body heat and it was quite warm. The wall weren't suffocating him and it could fit another cat nicely. He didn't like underground but this was alright. 'Well moping won't help my stomach.' He thought turnings his body so that his head was near the back of the cave,'Just don't cave in,' he thought as he drifted off to sleep dreaming of better times.

By the surprised reaction of the tom, Hollyfrost was sure he wasn't adjusted to this kind of weather when hunting. It was only gonna last the whole leaf-bare until the heat returns. "It's not that bad, really. A little slippery is all," she answered, already walking off to track down something to get her claws on.

In a few boring minutes, maybe ten, she caught a glimpse of color against the pristine snow. The she-cat instantly dropped to a hunter's crouch and pushed forward towards what she thought was a snowshoe hare, and stood correct to see the fluffy rodent hopping along chewing away at strips of bark and twigs from the trees. The brown of it's paws and ears must have given it away, as well camouflaged as it was everywhere else. Her eyes narrowed to focus on her target with her legs ready to kick once she positioned herself fairly close to the hare. As quick as lightning Hollyfrost lunged at it with claws extended. She didn't get it the first pounce, but she chased it a short distance before pushing forward and pinning it with her sharp claws. An easy victory.

Hollyfrost took her catch and sped back to the den, following back her own visible paw prints in the snow. At first she thought she forgot where it was as more snow had covered her older tracks, but luckily she didn't. The red tabby dropped the snowshoe into the den where Bass had waited before entering herself without much warning, visibly exhausted from running through the chilling winds.
"Well, I got this. Eat up."

  • Bass shifted to the left to allow her to join him. "You look tired, come eat with me." He said signaling with his tail for her to join him. He yawned loudly still waking from his nap. His eyes where on this she-cat. 'Why is she helping me? What would she have to gain by this? This tires her out so why?' He wishes to repay her, he was useless in this terrain and was unfamiliar with any cats.

'Was she a clan cat? I heard there was a clan around here but I've never met them.... I heard they're pretty ruthless, of course my clan was supposedly the smart clan.'
He waited for her to join him his fur fluffing up. He began to eat hare wasn't his favorite but he wasn't going to turn down food. Besides beggars can't be choosers.
