Shana found herself nodding in agreement, but one student called out, "But they attacked us! We should get revenge!" Several others nodded in agreement. Another voice pitched in, "She just wants us to stay out because she's a human! She knows we'll join the elves, she's just looking after her own kind." More murmurs of agreement. Shana wrapped an arm around Eve protectively as people began to glare at them.

For once, Eva didn't break down into tears. Instead, she shrugged away from Shana and met the glares, "I want us to stay out because we shouldn't be forced to kill anymore. Who was taught that our magic is to be used to kill? Who was taught that we should be killers even after we've no danger! I am a healer! I don't want anymore deaths. I don't care if they're a human, an elf or an orc; I don't want us to kill!" She shouted, her eyes narrow, "The entire reason they attacked fully was because of me; I was the one who made the boiling water spill down! I saw other students die, I couldn't help them, and I hurt. The water was my fault! If anything, you should be thinking about putting me to death rather than any other people who are merely doing what they are forced to do!" She raised her voice further, staring them all down, "Whatever this schol chooses, know that I am not going to fight. I am a healer, not a killer like Veeruse."~

Many students were moved by her speech, but many more still glared at her. However, Malcolm spoke up, his voice strong and clear. "Enough! We must now vote. Shall we join the humans, join the elves and orcs, or remain neutral?" He counted as the students in favor of each raised their hand in turn. Though Shana wanted them to help her father's side, she raised her hand for neutrality in solidarity with Eve.
The final tally was 45 for the elves and orcs, 20 for the humans, and an overwhelming 123 for neutrality. Lyria and her gang had been the main reason neutrality got so many votes. Once they raised their hands, others wanting to copy the popular seniors did so as well. The centauress gave Eve a wink as the meeting was adjourned.

Eva held her head up, holding Shana's hand gently as she lifted her hand for nutrality. WHen she looked over to see that Lyria and all of her gang were joining, the female gave a small smile, squeezing Shana's hand.~

Shana smiled back. Not everyone was happy with the result, however. Many of the students grumbled angrily, wanting to have revenge on the humans. Malcolm's voice cut through the rabble. "Everyone return to your dormitories now! We will have a week off of class to rest and recuperate. The human prisoners will be delivered to the nearest village by staff members. After one week, we will return to class." And with that, it was done. the students began to scatter off to go to their dorm rooms. Shana, however, leaned in and whispered to Eve. "Can we go work on the garden now?" she asked softly. "It would...really help me relax."
-
Eva nodded before kissing her forehead, "I'll meet you there. I need to be sure Malcolm hasn't harmed himself more." She murmured, hugigng her and gently kissing her forehead again, "I loe you."~

"I love you too," Shana whispered. After a moment, she stepped back, then turned to walk down the hall. Malcolm was sitting at one of the table, face pale and sweaty as he struggled to remain upright.
-
Eva hurried to Malcolm, frowning, "You shouldn't have exerted yourself so much." She said firmly, moving to support him and help him to a place he could lay down, "Do you hurt?~

Malcolm shook his head. "I am fine, thank you," he said, smiling at Eve. Then he sighed. "We may choose to remain neutral, but neither side will understand," he said, more to himself than to her. "And the new weapons that human general used..." he trailed off, a troubled expression on his face. "I worry for the future of this school."
-
Eva took in a deep breath, sitting down and nodding, "I know." She whispered, listening to him and drawing her arms around herself, "Did I do the right thing, Malcom? did we do the right thing?" She asked, watching him.~

Malcolm shook his head again, though not to say 'no', simply to clear his mind. "I am not sure, to be honest. We killed an important human general. That is sure to have consequences. The elves might have provided us with some protection, but ultimately they would have controlled us as much as the humans wished to. Only time will tell if we made the right decision." He hesitated. "Because we are remaining neutral...we will have to ask Lariel to leave. I am aware that he is Shanalotte's father, but it simply must be done. Would you like to be the one to tell them, or shall I?"
-
Eva's eyes grew sad, the woman listening to him quietly before looking down, "I will speak to them." She said softly, rising and leaving quietly. She paused before stepping out completely, "If.... If the school is attacked again, by elves or humans.... The prolonged battle will be partially my fault, won't it."~

Malcolm hesitated, the nodded slowly. "Yes. But more the fault of myself and the other faculty. And even more so, the fault of the two warring sides. Don't feel guilty, my dear. You did what you did to defend the lives of innocent students."
-
Eva gave a sad smile, "I wish I could believe that." She said quietly, turning away and slipping off to find Shana and her father. The girl sighed, staring at her love, "Shana, I just got done talking to Malcom. Becuase we have decided to remain nuetral, your father needs to leave. It's more for his safety than anything." Her voice was soft, the girl looking down, "I'm sorry. I thought it'd be best if I were to tell you..."~

Shana had been kneeling in their garden, trying to relax. At the news that her father had to depart, she shot up like an arrow from a bow. "What?! But...they can't send him away! Eve, he's my FATHER! Can't you do something?" She stepped closer to her lover, looking into her eye pleadingly.
-
Eva flinched, shaking her head faintly, "SHana." SHe whispered, taking the girl's hands in her own, 'I'm sorry. I've caused so much trouble. If your father stays, he could be killed. You could be killed too." The woman bit her lip, the fountain beginning to solidify behind them, "He needs to go. I-I want you to go with him. Get away from the battle. Go where you and your father won't get involved..."~

"No!"Shana stepped forward and took both of Eva's hands, looking into her eyes. "I'm not going anywhere! I could never return home knowing you're still here and in danger. Please don't ask me to do that."
-
Eva held Shana's hands tightly, staring at her, "Shana, I want you to be safe." she whispered, kissing her forehead, "They need me here, you know that... And I know you don't want me to be gone, but... Oh, shana..." She brought her nea, hugging her tightly and hiding her face.

Shana embraced her right back, holding onto her like a lifeline. "Don't make me go away," she whispered. "I'll stay here, with you, until the very end." Tears fell down her cheeks, and she buried her face in Eva's shoulder. "Father will...will understand."
