    [fancypost borderwidth=0; width: 325px; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; margin-top: -15px; letter-spacing: 2px;] the hitchhikers — attack in [color=#dbc221]#dbc221hover [/fancypost]
[fancypost borderwidth=0px; width: 315px; height: auto; margin-top: -15px;][hr][justify][color=white]"Okay, gather 'round! Little ole' me is going to teach all of you how to become experts at climbing." Yvaine mewled at the top of her tiny lungs as she sprinted into the open clearing, a sparkle in her eyes and the sunshine glinting off her brown tabby pelt. The young -- or maybe not so young -- apprentice of the Hitchhikers lashed her tail in excitement as she surveyed the group of fellow clanmates who had shown up to receive a lesson from one of their own. She was surprised that her father had given her the permission to even host the training session, though she supposed he thought it was a smart idea to educate others on the art of maneuvering through trees just as confidently as they did on the ground. As much as the precursor of the clan didn't like to admit it, his daughter did have some brilliant ideas once in a while, and the bold apprentice smirked now as she rolled back her shoulders and strolled through the ranks of the cats who had showed. She thought she spotted Moirai's orange-and-black ears somewhere, though she couldn't be sure. And was that Expecto she saw in the back of the group?

"Okay, I guess we should start off by each cat picking a tree to practice climbing." the ticked tabby she-cat mewed as she strode over to a firm-looking, old oak and settled comfortably on the roots of the tree. "You can share trees too, if the tree is big enough." she added as she spotted a couple of kits headed towards the same alder. [/fancypost]

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor=transparent; width: 400px; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px black; font-family: dotum; text-align: justify;]"What's the point of that?" Expecto wandered over with an arched, metaphorical eyebrow. A small little rodent was dangling from his jaws, clawing at the air and trying to escape until he crushed its bones between his sharp teeth. Before the blood could seep into his pelt, he tossed it into his mouth, chewed thoughtfully and then swallowed, before clearing his throat and eyeing the strange feline, attempting to determine what her reasoning was for coming up with such an odd training session. "Why do we have to climb trees? We're not squirrels."[/fancypost]

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor=transparent; width: 400px; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px black; font-family: dotum; text-align: justify;]Vindicate was there, ready to help out. This post is short due to Lexi having to do the groceries with her mom. Yay.[/fancypost]

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 450px; font-size: 8pt;]So he was here, then. Yvaine's eyes widened for a moment in something close to surprise, but narrowed as the next words that were uttered completely destroyed her mood. Her tail lashed once, quick and final, and she glared daggers at Expecto, fur starting to rise a bit. Was there not one moment where the black and white apprentice wasn't trying to antagonize her? "Of course we're not squirrels, but climbing trees is a skill that all of us should have; we may very well need these skills one day, if not for plain survival, then for war." the tabby she-cat answered tartly, shifting her paws in an attempt to get rid of her exasperation. Honestly, she wondered how she and the other apprentice had ever once gotten along before. Sure, there was that one time when he'd almost caught her talking to a dead spirit, but that was one time. It was surely not going to happen again, and if it did, well, Expecto could frick off then, couldn't he? Such an asshole!

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor=transparent; width: 400px; text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px black; font-family: dotum; text-align: justify;]Expecto pondered over the femme's words before allowing his slim shoulders to rise and fall in a casual shrug. "If you say so. I'm in," he offered before dropping towards the earth and curling up slightly, a sign that he would take a nap until others have joined in on the training session. Truthfully, he didn't know why he felt so bitter. He could taste the need to antagonize like an awful taste coating his tongue, and the only way to get rid of it is to spit out something horrible to someone else.

The massive canine could only clamber at the trunks with dull claws and a heavy fall was the last thing she needed. So, there she was. Dressed as the quiet grey-brown she-cat. Her narrow shoulders shrugged before her paws carried her over to her apprentice just as the ivory-and-charcoal Expecto finished his little banter with Yvaine. Miz bumped her forelimb into the younger tom's shoulder with a forced but encouraging smile, a tired glimmer in her once-brilliant hazel eyes. "It'll be fun," she breathed, before returning her attention to the small brown tabby she-cat leading them. She was unaccustomed to the trees, so this would be a surely needed exercise.[/fancypost]

[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; border: 0px transparent; font-family: verdana; width: 470px;][justify][size=9px]Climbing trees? That was something the tom could get on board with. The act of bouncing from one branch to another without falling was all about strategy and deduction, something the almost-warrior-age tomcat could easily wrap his head around. He watched from the very front of the gathered felines, just a few paces away from his sister who was instructed to lead the session; he'd admit that there was a twinge of jealousy poking at his heart, realizing that his father had chosen Yvaine for this task and not Tyke, but he brushed the sentiment aside with a flick of his tail and settled for a day of basically pwning everyone and anyone there. Because, after all, Tycho was the best Hitchhiker for miles when it came to strategy games, and that's exactly what he was going to turn the afternoon into. [/fancypost]

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 450px; font-size: 8pt;]Oh, sure, he was totally in. Yvaine's eyebrows danced skeptically as she watched the other apprentice drop dramatically towards the ground and lay there, motionless, while the rest of the cats started to show. Her eyes narrowed at the other Dark Forest apprentice before darting over to the newcomers: Miz, Tycho (that other annoying tom-cat!) and a couple other younger NPCs who seemed to bring in a light all their own. Goodness, the Hitchhikers needed their own brightness these days -- it was always so dismal and depressing after their RadicalClan departure. Many friendships had been broken off, and there was really no telling when they would see their RadicalClan friends again, so the kittens especially had had a hard time separating.

Determined to break through to her tired and emotionally-wrecked friends, the light tabby daughter of Insignia hopped at once to her feet at the new faces and smiled as convincingly as she could before abandoning her post at the oak and waddling down towards her clanmates. "Hey, Miz. Tycho." she greeted curtly, nodding appreciatively at the older she-cat's encouraging words before waving her tail towards the trees behind her. "I suppose you're here for the tree-climbing lesson. Pick a tree and we'll get started!"

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor=transparent; width: 400px; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; color: white; text-transform: lowercase;]"Hey, I never said that it wasn't going to be," defended the young tom cat as he grinned lazily at the older feline who had brushed past him. His puffed-out pelt of charcoal and snow billowed in the wind as he bounded over to the nearest tree, unfamiliar with its species but noticing that it had many spindly, thin branches that would give way under heavy weight. Thankfully, despite his thick fur, he was particularly light and quick on his feet. He decided it would do him alright, and so he turned back to others and offered them a grin. "What're we waiting for? Let's go!"[/fancypost]

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; font-size: 8pt; width: 400px;]For the love of the gods, Yvaine was really sort of done with the black and white Dark Forester. Whatever. She rolled her eyes one more time before turning to the rest of the NPCs and smiling, doing her best to portray her sunniest attitude. After all, someone had to be the face of cheerfulness in a training session, and since her mentor didn't seem to be attending soon, she decided she might as well make the best of the situation. A couple of new faces faced her expectantly -- the two youngest members of the Hitchhikers, Coralkit and Heatherkit, were bouncing around in excitement. Yvaine remembered when she was just as eager to learn anything from an older member of the clan.

"All right!!" the young apprentice leaped back onto her oak tree and waved her tail for attention. "Let's go over a few rules before we begin; I don't want anyone getting hurt. If you do not feel comfortable climbing the tree, you can always choose another with softer wood that will help you grip on to it better. If you are sharing a tree with someone, make sure to stay a couple of cat-lengths away from him or her in case you two collide while falling or slipping. Can I ask you to help me supervise, Miz?" she mewed hopefully, wondering if she was being too commanding.

  • Styx had no jolly left in him. Yvaine was correct in saying that the Hitchhikers had been dismal and depressing. He was certainly one of the ones dragging them down. He grieved for Flower and the lost kits. They had not shown up in a long time. Part of him feared they had decided to leave without telling anybody, perhaps to avoid the messy goodbyes and the tears and sadness. Another part of him feared that something awful had happened to them. And he was just downright miserable. Why, he had been growing bolder and bolder, almost ready to tell Flower that he loved her. And then...she was gone. Just like that. But alas, the tom would be grateful for any sort of distraction he could get from his raging emotions.

Padding up to Yvaine, he took a seat in front of her and listened to her instructions. It was odd being trained by an apprentice, but the tom always believed that you learned something new every day. And sometimes, that something came from an unexpected source. This time, it was an apprentice. Now, Styx could climb a tree. Don't get me wrong. But he was not particularly keen on doing so. He had a fine tail, unlike some of those who had stubs for tails; his balance was good. His claws were sharp and his body was lean and strong. He was perfectly capable of this. "Gotcha'," the tom murmured. Flower's kits would have loved this....oh, there he goes again, thinking of them. Dreadful. Would they ever stop haunting his mind?

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; bordercolor=transparent; width: 400px; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; color: white; text-transform: lowercase; overflow: auto;]Vindicate arched a metaphorical eyebrow at the odd expecto, who seemed to change moods faster than a chameleon changes colors. one moment he was hesitant, the next competitive; she was beginning to wonder where this would lead him in life. he was all boisterous and no sense, qualities that were multiplied by his ambitious nature, causing red flags to be lifted whenever he opened his furry little mouth. he was no kind soldier, that was certain, but who was she to judge him so early on in life? keeping her thoughts to herself, she watched the small little activity begin, seeing a few hitchhikers launching themselves onto the tree trunks and trying to haul their skinny bodies up its length and onto the first, flimsy branch.[/fancypost]

[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; border: 0px transparent; width: 498px; text-align: justify; font-family: arial; color: #ffffff; font-size: 9px;][glow=#1B2436,2,300]A genuine smile graced the old tabby's maw as she watched her apprentice bounce over to a tree. Some of the other clanmembers may not have appreciated the young tomcat's unruly, bipolar attitude, but Miz found it refreshing and lively. Tail wavering like a river behind her, she dipped her head in recognition when Yvaine asked for assistance. "Of course," she answered. However, she felt a bit misplaced in her cat body now; she had initially shifted into it for the sake of climbing trees, but now that she was just going to be watching from the ground, making sure everyone was safe, her wolf skin seemed like much better protection.
Oh, well. She choked down the insecurities and padded into the brush, keeping her watchful hazel eyes on each of the tree climbers. She'd get her turn later.[/fancypost]

He raced into the throng of felines and-or other creatures with a twitching tail and slim paws, his turquoise eyes wide. "Did I miss anything?" Of course he hadn't heard the young she-cat call the training session, for he had been off marveling some stupid insect - a butterfly, to be precise. The tom just couldn't help himself. He was fascinated with all things he was not.
It appeared that they were going to be climbing trees? He saw a few apprentices and NPC's at the trunks of some, so he gathered that this session would be about balance, focus, and aerial attacks. That was all he could deduct, though; no doubt he missed all the rules and directions.[/fancypost]

[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; border: 0px transparent; font-family: verdana; width: 470px;][justify][size=9px][glow=teal,2,300]An ever-present smirk dominated Tycho's visage, quirking his maw up in a look of impudent nonchalance. He sat down at one of the trees, a tall, strong one which he claimed as his own. The ivory-and-chocolate tabby figured he could easily scale the plant if he didn't get too cocky and played his cards right. He perched on its roots, patiently impatient, and awaited further direction from his bossy sister.[/fancypost]

[fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 450px; font-size: 8pt;]"Awesome!" Yvaine's eyes danced happily at Miz's acceptance of her request and she lifted her tail happily. "Okay, guys, go ahead and test out the bark. If it is springy and soft, you'll have to make sure your claws get a steady grip in the wood before you even attempt to move upwards. If it is harder to dig in, you'll have to find more grooves in the wood to keep your paws steady." Yvaine tried her best to simplify the lesson, but she wasn't so sure the younger cats would understand, especially the two kittens who were barely listening to her even now. Oh well, they would sure learn.

Yvaine noticed that Pyre was especially late to the meeting, but he was usually late, so the tabby wandered over to the older Hitchhiker and mewed a greeting. "Hey, have you ever tried to climb a tree before?" the daughter of Insignia asked kindly. She didn't know the other all that well.

  • Moirai had heard whisperings of the tree climbing lesson that was supposedly taking place today, so she wandered into the meeting with a jawful of juniper berries and marigold, prepared to treat any upcoming bruises or scrapes. Dipping her head towards Vindicate, Miz, Pyre, and the little Yvaine, the almost medicine cat dropped her bundle by a small sapling and settled down to watch.
