  • Azure hesitated, unsure of what she was allowed to do. It made her slightly uncomfortable, being in another cat's personal den like this. "I've heard stories." She admitted. "But I never met them. I wasn't in the Clans then."

  • "Well imagine them ten times, bigger in size, number and strength," he continued yawning, "That pretty much sums up the Frean."

  • Azure shuddered at the thought. Nope, definitely better off here. She thought. Hesitantly, she moved further inside and sat down against a wall, curling her dark grey tabby tail around her paws.

  • "You can sleep there," he instructed flicking his tail to a nest on one side of a stream.

  • Azure dipped her head. "Thank you." She meowed, moving over to the nest. She kneaded the moss for a moment, then turned a circle and curled up in a tight ball. She didn't close her eyes, but rather kept them focused on him.

  • Ash yawned again, unaware of the eyes following him, and picked up a vole from his small pile and setled in his nest, on the opposite side of the stream. As he finished his vole, he lapped up some water from the stream, before closing his eyes to sleep.

  • Azure watched him for a moment longer, then curled up into an even tighter ball and went to sleep. As soon as her breathing slowed a dream overtook her mind. She was running again, but this time she could her pursuers behind her. Teeth spiked her tail and she stumbled. They were on her in an instant, hissing accusations only she knew to be untrue, claws digging into her pelt. Red splashed the undergrowth and she woke up with a cry, her breathing fast and ragged. For a moment she didn't know where she was, and panicked, her fearscent growing stronger. Her eyes landed on Ash and she remembered. She sat up and began to groom herself, hoping to calm down. They won't find me here. They won't. She tried to convince herself.

  • Ash woke up groggily his eyes landing on Azure, suddenly filling with concern, "What happed?" he asked snading up and walking over to her, nosing her softly.

  • Azure avoided his eyes. "Nothing, don't worry about it. Just a dream." She meowed softly. At least her voice wasn't shaking. She gave herself another quick lick.

  • "Somethings wrong," he said, "I've lived with a litter of kits before. I can tell," his voice quivered at the mentioning of his little siblings.

  • Azure sighed. "It... was a nightmare. A sort of... possible future for me, if you will." She closed her eyes, remembering the horrible sensations of being ripped apart, and shivered, hunching down as if trying to disappear inside herself.

  • Ash touched his tail to her ear, "If it was that bad it won't happen," he comforted her.

  • Azure opened her eyes. "I hope you're right." She mewed quietly, not sounding very convinced. Ash's warmth was soothing, and she caught herself leaning closer to him. Abruptly, she pulled back, staring at the ground. He'll probably kick you out in the morning. Don't get attached to someone who won't feel the same way. You don't want a repeat of this vicious cycle, do you? She thought, scolding herself sternly.

  • Ash smiled inwardly as she leaned towards him. He started stroking her back with his tail, "Go back to sleep," he instructed softly.

  • Azure hesitated, then settled down next to him. She closed her eyes again and was soon fast asleep. It had been an exhausting few days.

  • Ash licked her neck fur nervously and fell asleep.

  • Azure woke up in the morning pressed against Ash. After the first nightmare her sleep had been calm and empty, and she felt well rested. Her mind still fuzzy with sleep, she blinked open her bright blue eyes, then suddenly became aware of her close proximity to the tom. What will he think? She thought in a panic, mind clearing. The dark grey tabby sat up slowly, trying not to wake him up, and edged away slightly. He was kind to me last night, but that doesn't mean he likes you! She thought to herself.

  • Ash blinked open his eyes and sat up, yawning, "Good sleep?" he asked casually, like last night never happened. He padded over to his pile of prey and picked up a black bird.

  • Azure nodded, glancing at the freshkill pile. Could she take one? It seemed likely. She got to her paws, hesitated, then picked out a small shrew from the pile. "And yourself, did you sleep okay?" Small talk seemed safe, at the moment.

  • He nodded as he plucked out the feathers of the bird, one by one.
