  • "Are you sure?" Drizzlepelt asked. She herself was a bit tired and though she'd told no one about it, her hind paw was incredibly sore. She hadn't looked at it as she had a theory that things hurt less before you looked at them, but she was fairly sure she had a large splinter imbedded in her pad.

  • "Of course i am," lostsoul said, her ear twitching. She headed towards the camp entrance.

  • Drizzlepaw sighed adgitatedly but pulled back into the foliage and shredded her way down the tree, following with the smallest semi-invisible limp possible.

  • Lostsoul led her apprentice to a cluster of trees a little ways outside of camp and stopped there.
She took on a fighting stance with a smile on her face.
"This is one of my very best techniques. not a lot of cats know how to use it. leap at me, but land slightly to the left or right." she said as she did the move, herself, "From here, you have a split second of extra time to attack, while your opponent is stunned." She quickly twisted as she landed and tackled drizzlepelt. "now try it yourself," she said as she backed away and got back in her fighting stance.

  • Drizzlepaw nodded. With her hurt hind pad, she would only have full strenght in one of her legs. That was the one she'd have to use to get the best speed in her back spin in the second part of the attack. that would mean jumping to that side of Lostsoul so the outside leg got the power. In the instant it took her to think through this, Drizzlepaw crouched and sprang off, twist the same way as her mentor and tackling her with markedly less power than she was capable of using, but enough to get the job done.

  • Lostsoul got back to her feet, a little disappointed.
"Why didn't you use more effort? this is training, but you're showing me you aren't being very serious. What's with the limp?" she said.

  • Drizzlepaw's eyelids half closed and she sat.

"It hurts." she said simply. Why else would she be limping, she wondered?

"Either way, I know the basics of the move and executed it the same way you did. When I feel better I can add all the effort you want."

  • "What if we were attacked, right now. with all the recent conflicts, it is a possibility," Lostsoul said, fiercely, moving towards drizzlepelt. "let me see your leg. i'm sure you don't want the clan's medicine cat looking at it if you didn't argue with me about training." Then she muttered to herself, "Maybe a rogue one would do better, anyways."

  • "I just want to leave it alone." Drizzlepaw said, hiding it under her, "And if there were an attack I would fight regardless. I already agreed to give my life for the clan when they took me in, and if it comes to that then I will have kept my word."

  • Lostsoul stood still for a moment, staring at the air and looking as if she was dazed.
she was silently arguing with the Starving Raven in her mind.
'leave her alone, Lostsoul, she can get an infection and die, if she likes'
'no, she's in my care and i will not let another cat get when i could help them. You made me almost kill my kits. nothing like that will ever happen again, if i can help it'
'fine, i'll let you take care of her, but after that, you listen to me, again'

  • 'fine, so leave me be, right now'
Lostsoul shook her head and looked back at Drizzlepelt.
"let me see your foot. I can help," she said, the gentleness returning to her voice. "I used to be a medicine cat."

  • Lostsoul looked at it carefully. She saw a big thorn almost disappearing into Drizzlepelt's pad. She found a cobweb in the split bark of a tree and brought it over before sitting down. She gingerly pushed Drizzlepelt's toes away from the thorn and carefully grasped the end of the thorn in her teeth. she quickly yanked it straight out and stuck the folded cobweb on it even before it started to ooze blood, since she didn't even have a marigold petal.
    "There, all better," Lostsoul said.

  • Drizzlepaw hissed air in through her teeth at the extraction, but kept her mouth and eyes tightly pinned shut throughout the procedure until the end.

"Thank you." She said quietly, trying to untense all her muscles.

  • Lostsoul nodded without a smile. Medicine work made her as sad as anything else, and soon, she'd have to give in to the Raven, anyways.
"Lets get back to practice, then," the Raven, with her meaner voice, said.

  • Drizzlepaw's eyebrows drew together confused,

"You're a medicine cat, or at least were, right? Aren't I supposed to rest this? Why don't we do hunting for the rest of this session and do the fighting tommorow?"

  • Lostsoul, or the Starving Raven, narrowed her eyes. "Hunting mostly involves running and jumping, which would hurt your pad or pull off the cobweb on the twigs and leaves. fighting just uses your claws," she said. "just stand up and test your paw. Does it hurt very much?"

  • Drizzlepaw nodded and slowly stood, putting her paw down gingerly and tentativly adding weight to it. It still could not support the full share of it's weight, but it took a whole lot more than it had previously.

"It is much better." she said.
