Gem took a careful paw step into the forest, ears swiveling, nose twitching. She’d heard many tails about this forest. Some said that the trees would gobble you alive, some said that you could find the fountain of youth, other, a giant forest beast. But that was no matter. Gem was an explorer, and if she could map out this forest... she’d become famous! Maybe she’d actually earn some well-earned dallops to pay for some food. With her trusty pack slung about her shoulder she headed in. After all, those rumors were probably just that- rumors.
It wasn’t long before she got a serious feeling of being watched. Her fur bristled at the unknown feeling. “H-hello?” She called out softly. “Is there anyone there?” For a moment, there was just silence. She forced her fur to lie flat, continuing on. It took her a moment before she realized the moss under her paws had turned to stone, and she looked about.
Her eyes widened in amazement- where was she? It was some sort of altar, surrounded by towering stone pillars laced with mystic-looking flowering vines. She cautiously approached the center of the temple, turning to walk backwards she she tried to take in the whole view.
She stopped, dead in her tracks as she felt a hot breath on her back. She hissed, flipping around. But she only saw a large hill, a large, black crack running horizontally through it. “I... I know someone’s there!” She called. Suddenly, to her amazement, the hill opened it’s eyes. No, it wasn’t a hill.. it was the head of a giant beast. It spoke not, it’s shimmering moss-colored eyes poke for it. Leave no damage, take no damage.
The feline, small compared to the mass of the beast, nodded, understanding well.
Ah, yes, Gem remembered the day well. She ran a hand over the entry in her journal. Her claw traced around the routes along paths, the troll’s caverns and the devouring mud pits. Finally, her paw landed upon the last few words on the page. The forest was the beast.
