Lazuli Leonidas never had a particularly favorite season. Though one of her favorite activities just happened to be a ‘summer thing’. What was it? Swimming. Water at any season was good, but during the summer the combination of the sun on her multi colored back and the lapping wave underneath her webbed toes, it was just a heavenly feeling.
The dragonlet blinked open her lapis colored optics, feeling the air heat up around her as her cabin quickly heated up in the summer sun. The huffed, getting up and arching her back, feeling her backbones popping satisfyingly. Laz hopped out of her nest with a chirp and headed to the door. The door was easy to push open, but the hot wave of fresh air wasn’t. She snorted, ruffling her wings in displeasure.
The sun beating down in her head didn’t make it any more bearable; in fact, it was just making it worse. Bees drones lazily through the air, rounding up the last batched of nectar as the spring flowers, nurtured by the fresh spring sun, began to wilt and die off from the same thing that birthed them. The squib licked her lips. Her mouth was as dry as a skeleton in the desert. Fortunately, she knew of some water nearby.
She continued on towards her destination with a sigh. Dry grass crunched under her feet. Few were out and about; many other Sun clanners were still int he shade of their cabins. The lucky few that had water bending or ice powers, or some other of the sort the young blue dragon didn’t know about, could cool of their rooms to make it lovely inside. But no, she was stuck, a hot dragonlet on a summer’s day.
Finally, her destination came into view. He felt an extra spring in her rather sluggish step as the sun’s light reached her eyes, reflecting off the softly running, calm waters of the river before her. The quiet trickling was heaven to her dainty ears, a god-sent sound like the fluttering of angel’s wings. She giggled at this; she was half-angel after all. She took a deep breath as she flung herself into the depths of the crystal-clear river before her, sinking in with a splash.
Honestly, Laz was surprised to be the only one at the river today. Or, more accurately, this part of the river. She would bet there were more Sun Clanners down or up river, though fortunately out of earshot. A spray of mist was sent into the air as she released air from her small lungs to refill them, diving down again. She opened her eyes underwater, spotting a swift silver fish.
She quickly snapped it up, her swimming skills superb. The dragonlet effortlessly glided back to shore, spraying sparkling droplets everywhere as she ruffled her wings, drying herself slightly.
She tore into the fish’s soft flesh with her double-rowed teeth. They always tasted better in the summer, she thought to herself.
