I'm afraid I wrote this a long time ago and never got around to editing it. I know it isn't gr8 for me, I usually write better but... Oh well! It was basically just a test to see how well I knew the warriors series. I had a few errors in here, but I was only on like the 3rd book when I wrote it. I'll edit it up and write chapter two if you like! I'm going to have a poll on that soon. Or you can just tell me down there if yuo want me to continue it, otherwise it will not be continued.
Forbidden Hearts Chapter One
Snowheart yawned then looked outside of the warriors' den. She was curled up in the ivy green moss, lying next to her best friend Ratwhisker. The glowing sun was starting to rise, painting the morning sky a light shade of orange. Snowheart pawed Ratwhisker's ear. The gray furball, Ratwhisker, rolled onto her other side and grunted.
"Snowheart! I want to sleep." she moaned.
"Would you two shut up!" Littletail snapped, from the corner of the den.
"Sorry!" Snowheart called.
"Ratwhisker, come on. We're on dawn patrol remember? With Whitepaw and Tigerpaw." Snowheart whispered. Whitepaw was Snowheart's aprentice, while Tigerpaw, was Ratwhisker's apprentice.
Instantly Ratwhisker sat up. Snowheart knew Ratwhisker adored Tigerpaw. Everyday she'd go on hunting patrol with him. Snowheart stood up too.
"Come on, they're waiting outside!" Snowheart announced, as she padded out of the humid old den.
Snowheart, Ratwhisker, Tigerpaw, and Whitepaw stalked along the side of a creek, the border of their clan, Foxclan. The orange and brown leave's of leaf-fall crackled under their paws. They continued walking until Snowheart caught a pungeont odor drifing towards them.
"Ratwhisker! Whitepaw, Tigerpaw! Do you guys smell that!" Snowheart asked.
"Yeah" Ratwhisker nodded, coming to a halt. Snowheart turned to face her as the apprentices caught up to them.
"Ew! What's that rancid smell!" Tigerpaw spat.
"It's another clan. Can you tell which one?" Ratwhisker asked.
"Uh, Frostclan?" Whitepaw guessed.
"Yeah," Ratwhisker nodded then turned to Snowheart "any idea why they're so close to the border?"
"I don't know, but I don't like it. Take Whitepaw back and alert Dapplestar. I'm going to stay here with Tigerpaw and investigate" she replied.
"Whitepaw! Come with me to tell Dapplestar!" Ratwhisker turned back to the two apprentices.
Whitepaw frowned "Aww but I wanna st-"
"Come on!" Ratwhisker hissed, cutting him off.
The two cats turned and paced away.
"Tigerpaw, follow me! And stay downwind! I think their coming onto our territory!" Snowheart dropped into a crouch, pressing her belly against the forest floor.
She began wading into the water, slightly crossing the border.
"Come on Tigerpaw!" she whispered, without turning to look at him.
It wasn't until she had crossed to the other side when she realized Tigerpaw was missing.
"Tigerpaw!" she hissed under her breath "where are you!"
Suddenly she felt a heavy weight drop down onto her, digging it's claws into her back. The cat that had pounced on her pinned her down, while she fought vainly to get up.
"Now it's time for you to die!" The cat hissed, as Snowheart realized it was Tigerpaw.
"Tigerpaw!" Snowheart growled, kicking his stomach. The impact from her kick made him fly off of her. He fell on his back, exposing his soft underbelly.
Snowheart stood up "Turned to Frostclan's side? The side of your father!" she snarled. "I can't believe you!"
Tigerpaw's father had been a traitor to Foxclan. He'd tried to kill Dapplestar, but failed. His punishment was exile. But somewhere along the way he'd gotten himself made a leader.
"My father! My father is the greatest warrior in the forest!" He spat. Tigerpaw stood up and shook the dust off his pelt. Baring his fangs in a snarl, Tigerpaw turned and ran into the undergrowth.
Snowheart dusted herself off then whirled around, facing the direction of camp. She just had to tell Dapplestar! Quickly scurrying into the bushes, she headed back to her clan.
"Dapplestar!" Snowheart called, as she paced outside her leader's den.
"Come in!" a voice came forth from the shadows of the cave the leader resided. Snowheart padded into the den and made herself comfy in the mossy bedding.
"Dapplestar.... I-I don't know how to tell you this," Snowheart began "but...."
"Tigerpaw betrayed us for his own father?" Dapplestar snorted.
"H-How'd you know?" Snowheart stammered.
"I just assumed. I mean, Ratwhisker, Whitepaw, Tigerpaw, and you went on patrol. Ratwhisker and Whitepaw came back alone and told me that they smelled Frostclan close to the border," she explained, "And I saw Tigerpaw didn't follow you into camp. I've also been watching him. He'd been acting strangely up until now. But I have to admit, I'm glad he's done ruffling my fur."
Snowheart nodded solemnly glad to have Tigerpaw off her back as well. "But what if-"
"Save the ifs for when something actually happens," Dapplestar interjected. "I don't think we'll see much of him now. I mean what could he want of us?"
"I don't know," Snowheart confessed. "But... Maybe he'll have a reason."
"Well, I see no need to have any concern for Tigerpaw at the time," Dapplestar said, giving her shoulder a small lick.
"Yeah.. Yeah, you're right" Snowheart agreed, standing up as she turned to leave. "Oh wait," she said over her shoulder. "Who's going to the gathering tonight? I just was wondering.."
"You, Littletail, Duskpool, Ratwhisker, and Featherthorn" Dapplestar replied.
"Thanks," Snowheart walked out of the den slowly.
Snowheart and Ratwhisker walked side-by-side. It was moonhigh and they were heading towards Center-Hill for the gathering. You see, in the middle of the forest the was an enormous hill. The clans, all three of them, gathered around it while the leaders stood atop.
"Do you think Tigerpaw will be at the gathering?" Snowheart asked as she padded along.
"I hope," Ratwhisker conceded.
"How can you say that Ratwhisker!" Snowheart snarled. "He tried to kill me."
"I-I just...."
"Shush up! We're here!" Duskpool whispered over her shoulder. They walked slowly towards the hill as the other two clans poured in.
Once all three of the clans were seated around the hill the leaders scurried up to the top.
"Silence!" Dapplestar yowled, her voice able to be heard over the clamor. "I said silence!"
Quickly everyone quieted down. Snowheart sat in a patch of grass near the hill next to Ratwhisker.
"I wonder what she's gonna say" Ratwhisker whispered.
"Shhhh!" Snowheart hissed giving her chest a quick lick.
"I shall speak first!" Dapplestar announced from the top of the hill. She stepped forward. "An apprentice has betrayed Foxclan! He's attacked one of our warriors. Never to be seen since." Eyeing the Frostclan leader, Jaystar, warily she grunted, "We're thinking he went over to the side of Frostclan"
Jaystar looked away, his pale blue fur glowing in the moonlight.
"Anything you want to say Jaystar?" Dapplestar growled. Jaystar nodded and moved forward.
"I have accepted Tigerpaw into my clan! He will become a great warrior. What he has done does not matter!" Jaystar declared. Yowls of protest came from the bottom of the hill where the crowd of cats were seated. All except Frostclan thought this was an outrage.
"Let a traitor into your clan! As soon you'll all be traitors!" Featherthorn hissed.
"That should not be allowed" an Ashclan cat meowed.
"IT WAS MY DECISION!" Jaystar roared. Every cat became quiet. "It does not matter! Now let Blossomstar, leader of Ashclan speak!" Jaystar stepped back as Blossomstar approached. She spoke of plentiful prey and new warriors. More cats were becoming aprenticed. And all seemed well for Ashclan.
Ratwhisker lay next to Snowheart as she timidly chomped on a magpie. "Some gathering huh, Snowheart?"
"Yeah," Snowheart purred, as she curled up in the moss of the warriors' den. "I feel like I could sleep for a moon. Night Ratwhisker."
Snowheart rasped her tongue over her friends ear then let sleep take her.
Snowheart looked up at silverpelt while she sat in a patch of heather.
"Ambition driving one forward with the attempt to rule. Watch for the one that seems to be gone" a voice echoed all around her.
"Huh?" Snowheart blinked. "Who are you! What do you mean!"
"You will see in time..... Starclan needs you" the voice whispered seeming to fade.
"Don't leave! I need to know what you mean!" Snowheart pleaded, but darkness suddenly consumed her.
"Oof!" Snowheart grunted as something heavy fell on her. She looked up to see Littletail's face.
"You were mumbling in your sleep," he growled.
"Oh sorry" she murmured in reply as embarrased as anyone could be. Littletail stepped off her glaring at nothing as he stalked back to his side of the den.
Snowheart sat up, looking around. Ratwhisker wasn't there! Maybe she's on dawn patrol, Snowheart thought. She walked out of the den, noticing the sun painting a yellow glow across the sky.
Snowheart saw Tornfur, an elder timidly picking at a juicy looking vole from the fresh-kill pile. She thought Tornfur looked concerned over something so she strode up to her and picked a mouse from the kill pile. Snowheart took a bite out of the scrawny mouse then swallowed and looked up at Tornfur.
"Is something bothering you, Tornfur?" she asked nodding down to the vole Tornfur had been eating. "You don't look like your enjoying the vole."
"Oh," Tornfur looked embarrased, probably not wanting to have drawn attention. "It's just I'm worried about Ratwhisker."
Snowheart's ears pricked. She knew Tornfur was Ratwhisker's mother.
"What about her? I thought she'd be out on dawn patrol," she wondered, worry seeping into her.
"Well, actually the patrol left awhile ago... I asked if they were taking her with them but," Tornfur trailed off, looking at the ground. "She wasn't with them! I talked to Dapplestar but she thought she might have just gone out hunting on her own! I don't think she really cared though."
"Well, if she doesn't come back after sunhigh... THEN Dapplestar will have to listen! I'm sure she cares too," Snowheart added.
"I-I guess your right" Tornfur mumbled.
"Just try to take your mind off her," Snowheart desperately wanted to comfort the old tabby, but it seemed Tornfur wouldn't stop worrying.
So she turned away, knowing she had more important business to attend to. Snowheart padded to the entrance of her leader's den.
"May I come in Dapplestar?" Snowheart asked.
"Yes" Dapplestar replied.
When Snowheart stepped inside she noticed the leader laying down, her eyes clouded with worry.
"Anything troubling you Dapplestar?"
"It's none of your concern!" Dapplestar hissed furiously. Snowheart flinched, her leader usually never got this angry.
"I'm sorry," Snowheart whimpered.
"No, I am. I've been worried about Tigerpaw," she turned her head. "And now I see Ratwhisker has gone missing..... I pretended not to care. I just need to think"
"Oh. Then sorry to bother you. I was just wondering. Whitepaw has been training well. I think it's time he should be a warrior," Snowheart meowed proudly.
"Alright, we'll have the ceremony now, come on then," Dapplestar stood up and strode out of her den, Snowheart trailing behind.
After they emerged from the den Dapplestar leaped up onto Dirthill, the place she stood when they held meetings. She let out a loud yowl summoning the cats from their dens. The cats all came together, gossiping about who knows what until Dapplestar yowled again. Silence filled the clearing. Snowheart climbed up the hill to stand next to Dapplestar, and Whitepaw, guessing what was happening, followed.
"I, Dapplestar, leader of Foxclan," she began. "Call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this noble apprentice."
Just at that moment Ratwhisker stepped into the clearing, looked up at the Dirthill, eyes wide, then quickly scurried into the crowd of cats.
"Ratwhisker!" Snowheart half-mouthed half-whispered.
Dapplestar flicked her tail to silence her then continued speaking, "And I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn"
An excited gleam flashed through Whitepaw's shimmering turquoise eyes, and he licked his chest axiously.
"Whitepaw," Dapplestar meowed. "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect and defend this clan, even at the cost of your life?"
"I do!" Whitepaw mewled, seeming to sit up straighter.
"Then by the power of Starclan, I give you your warrior name Whitepaw, from this moment on you will be known as Whitewhisker. Starclan honors your strength and your courage and we welcome you as a full warrior of Foxclan," she finished.
"Welcome Whitewhisker" Dapplestar whispered to him.
Whitewhisker's tail twitched excitedly and he gave a squeak of joy running up to his leader to touch noses with her.
"Whitewhisker! Whitewhisker!" the cats below chanted.
Snowheart laid in the soft bedding of the warriors' den rasping her tongue over her fur repeatedly. Ratwhisker walked in and laid down beside her.
"Where were you this morning?" Snowheart asked.
"Why do you care!" Ratwhisker spat defensively standing up.
"I was just wondering," Snowheart shrugged and kept washing.
"Mind your own business, Snowheart," Ratwhisker grumbled, laying down farther away from her.
"Fine," Snowheart replied. If Ratwhisker wanted her to mind her own business she wouldn't care. What's gotten into her? she thought. Yawning she rolled over and fell into a deep slumber. She'd wake up early, to follow Ratwhisker if she went off again.
When Snowheart awoke the sun was just creeping up. She saw Ratwhisker's tail disappear around the corner of the entrance to the den. Then, remembering to follow her, Snowheart stood up and stalked out of the den. Turning just in time, she saw Ratwhisker disapper behind the warriors' den. She stood for awhile, trying to put distance between Ratwhisker and her before she followed. Then she plunged through the bushes and into the forest.
Snowheart was walking a good distance behind Ratwhisker, when she saw her stop by the creek, the border between Foxclan and Frostclan. Maybe she was just hunting after all! Snowheart hoped. Ratwhisker's paw flew out and she fished a samon out of the water. Then it fell back onto the bank, flipping around wildly. Before it could fall back into the water, Ratwhisker killed it with a swift blow from her paw. Scooping it up in her mouth, she flipped back around to face the stream. And then she began to wade into it! Snowheart was utterly shocked. RATWHISKER WAS GOING INTO FROSTCLAN TERRITORY! She didn't like it, but she knew she had to follow. After Ratwhisker had gotten to the other side, while she was shaking her fur off, Snowheart dived into the water. She had to hurry so Ratwhisker couldn't get out of sight! Paddling as quickly and silently as possible she soon reached the other side. Ratwhisker continued walking until she reached a clearing, where a single cat stood. Snowheart didn't recognize the cat until she got closer and hid herself behind a tree. It was Tigerpaw! Watching, thoroughly baffeled, she saw Tigerpaw rub his muzzle against Ratwhisker's flank, while she purred loudly. She dropped the fish and gave Tigerpaw's ear a lick. Then to Snowheart's horror, Tigerpaw whispered something into Ratwhisker's ear, and she purred even louder. Right when Tigerpaw had entwined his tail with Ratwhisker's Snowheart jumped out.
"Ratwhisker!" she screamed. Tigerpaw's ears flattened against his head, fur bristling he let out a loud hiss. Ratwhisker's hackles were raised in surprise.
"Fox dung!" Ratwhisker spat.
"You let that stupid furball track you!" Tigerpaw hissed.
"What are you doing with Tigerpaw!" Snowheart yowled.
"It's Tigerpelt!" he snarled.
"Same difference, traitor!" she growled in response.
"I have to go Tigerpelt," Ratwhisker mewled giving Tigerpelt a rub against the shoulder. "I love you."
Snowheart turned and stalked back towards the creek angrily muttering under her breath.
When Ratwhisker caught up to her Snowheart hissed, "What do you think your doing!"
"What do you think your doing following me!" Ratwhisker snarled.
"Um I don't know trying to stop you from being so mouse-brained!"
"I love him! And you won't stop me from seeing him!" Ratwhisker ran towards the creek.
"He's a-" Snowheart started, but she had already jumped in the water.
Ratwhisker's head bobbed up "I love him!" she repeated, then went under again.
"traitor," she finished.
