It took all of his willpower not to suddenly jump and curse Mathias out for his little joke. Lukas settled for an eye roll and a head shake instead, his face half torn between grossed out and amused by Mathias' idea of 'funny'. It was more than a bit gruesome to see deer parts smeared all over your closest friend's face. "You're going to wash up first tonight. If I wake up to that, I swear, someone's gonna end up with a busted-in nose, and it's probably not going to be myself," he said, the crack of a smile pulling at his lips. For all these years they'd known each other, Lukas had never condoned Mathias' bouncy vibrance and actually meant it. They all needed something light in their lives, especially considering the circumstances, and having Mathias around only guaranteed that.

Sometimes, it felt as if that was what kept him sane throughout the day.

"But you're sleeping on the floor tonight. I'll be nice and allow you a blanket," Lukas said with a slight smirk, going over to the cabinet and pulling out the cardboard container of macaroni and cheese. It was probably stale and definitely unhealthy and Lukas didn't mind that one bit. Nothing could ruin his good mood right now anyways. He grabbed the pot off of the half-warmed stove top and went outside to scoop up some snow for water. Once he'd filled a decent portion of it, he lugged it back in (for some reason, the fact that snow weighed so much always slipped his mind) and added two more logs to the wood-burning stove before easing it onto the platform.

It took a little longer than he expected, but it eventually melted and completely became water, whereupon he poured half of it into the larger pot lying on the counter, pushing it towards Mathias and his bloody workplace.

"Don't set the kitchen on fire," Lukas warned jokingly, turning back to his own pot and ripping open the container of mac and cheese. He poured it all in, and after a second thought, took a second pack, thinking that they both had worked up an appetite. They hadn't eaten much this morning or anything for dinner the night before, so he supposed it wasn't that bad to treat themselves a bit.

Oh crap I forgot some people were still in school! I ended last week but I'm in summer school now. Ahh sorry, good luck on your finals! I just thought you left forever, thank god you're not though. I couldn't live without this thread

Mathias grinned innocently as the liquids dripped off his face and onto his sweatshirt. Even when Lukas acted like he didn't appreciate or find his actions funny, he knew deep down he did, but in a different way. A Lukas-y way. "Well, then I'm just going to bed like this. I'll sleep right next to your bed so you can smell it all night long," he half-joked, starting to debate the once bad idea. He went back to cutting the fat off of the meat, pushing the white flab aside. Picking up the lug of meat, he dropped it into the bowl of water that was just slid to him. The Dane had really never found out the real way to cook elk meat, but he'd been doing it his way for quite a while. So far, him or the Norwegian hadn't puked or become sick of his cooking abilities, which was a good enough sign for him to keep going.

Matt leaned up against the counter while waiting for the meat sit in the water for a few moments, taking a small break. It was then that he noticed his hands were still caked with the blood and guts. "Wait, now we can both smell like intestines!" he cheered sarcastically, giving a harmless slap on Lukas' cheek, coating it with the same stuff. Then, quickly, he ran his hands under the sink to get the remainders off, not wanting an elk-guts war to commence. It was times like those that he appreciated the friendship between the two of them. If he would've done that same thing to Berwald or Tino he probably would've gotten punched in the gut or disowned for life. Thankfully, the two had been friends for so long that they knew each other's boundaries. And Luk just so happened to not be very offended or threatened by a slap of animal carcass. Though, in the past the Dane had been close or completely pissed off his friend, which actually helped Matt realize that he needed to calm down. No matter how opposite they were, they were always evened out by each other like a balanced scale.

After a few minutes of letting the meat sit in water, Mathias took it out and started layering it with salt, pepper, and butter, hoping to get the rather bitter taste of elk out of the picture. It was then that the two stayed quiet for a little bit as they set to work on trying to finish their dinner. The Dane stabbed a long knife into the meat and rested it into wood powered oven. After making sure it was balanced correctly, he walked away from it knowing it would take a while. Mathias then turned around toward the cabinets above him and grabbed two glasses, stepping over to the fridge to fill them with water. "Hey, maybe we can go up to Tromsø to get some more food, clothes, and other stuff... I don't know," he commented softly, glancing over at Lukas with a small shrug "Or we could go fishing to just take it easy for a bit." the Dane placed the glasses on the table next to the empty plates. While waiting for his response he decided to flip the meat onto the other side so it would get equally as cooked. Matt started to trail on the fishing idea, as it sounded a lot less tiring than skiing through mountains. Plus, last time they had done it the whole day had been full of laughing, joking around, Mathias falling into the water, and actual fishing as well. Well, either way, he didn't mind what they did. Just as long as they did it together. But what seemed to overlap his train of though the most was the idea of just laying on the couch with Lukas. It seemed like the time would never come with the lengthy time of the meal preparation.
