The books she'd been given by the trader had been invaluable in her efforts to learn how to smith. In addition to steel, she was learning how to incorporate softer precious metals into her designs, and she was making a bit of headway in the armor she was trying to build for herself. It was tricky because she was still growing, and she had to be sure that the interlocking pieces were adjustable to allow for that, but she was making do.
Her hammer fell again and again on the chest plate as it cooled, pounding the item into the shape that she wanted. She had to modulate the amount of power she used on such projects, knowing that her strength could break the metal components instead of fixing them. Fortunately, her smithing attempts helped her as much in smithing itself as it did in learning to control her new power. It would be invaluable on the battle field.
Setting aside the chest piece for now, Braenix began to work on the new design she had made for a sword, which was sharp along the outer, curved edge but was dull on the shorter inner edge. It was a slashing instrument, rather than a stabbing instrument, but she was sure that there was someone among her friends and allies that would be able to use such a thing. She wrapped leather tightly around the grip to soften it and allow for a firmer grasp.
It took hours of labor to shape the blade, and even longer to complete the cosmetic designs, but it was always worth the effort.
