[fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify;]The sky was a blissful blue -- not a cloud was to be seen in the brilliant azure above. Everything was peaceful and warm. New-leaf had come at last! The snow that had been hard underpaw for the past several moons was thinning now, allowing for the soggy soil beneath to show itself after a winter of hibernation. The sun's rays beat down steadily on the grey and white ice, causing elegant rivulets to flow through the dark brown tilled earth, running grooves throughout the RadicalClan camp. The Hitchhikers had been staying with the friendly host clan for a very long time, much longer than their usual docking time period, but the large, friendly, bamboo-dwelling clan had not shown them any less hospitality ever since Insignia's decision to stay just a while longer. After all, both parties knew how dangerous it could be trekking anywhere during the middle of leaf-bare, but now that it was new-leaf again, there was no doubt that the nomadic clan would be setting off in no time.

Moirai shut her eyes momentarily, reveling in the warmth that the sun's light gave; the rays warmed her eyelids and she expelled a puff of breath before opening her eyes again to look around her. Cats were going in and out in great groups, no doubt scouring the returning open territory for prey. The calico could see a few members from an anonymous hunting patrol return through the RadicalClan entrance with a few mice and even a robin. Things were beginning to look so much more positive now that the storms and blizzards had finally subsided. The medic purred in approval as she spotted the light-colored tabby daughter of Insignia springing through the barriers of the camp with a large red squirrel captured between her jaws, and a moment later, the kitten's mentor limped into view -- Scout Ashka's eyes were glimmering with warm pride as the mentor caught up to her apprentice and nudged her shoulder affectionately. Not far behind were the others: Insignia, still weary-looking but not nearly as damaged as he had been a couple of moons prior to now; Misery Business, stoic and held-back as usual these days; Pyre, looking like fire in the sunlight; Tycho, dragging back an impressively-plump sparrow of his own; Styx, looking composed and strong and content with a small vole clasped firmly in his maw. Everyone's spirits were lifted, and it was so clear to see the effect that these spirits had on their owners' health. Moirai's whiskers twitched with satisfaction as she whisked forward to admire their catches more closely.

OOC: Okay, here is the thread you've all been waiting for. c: We needed something to get back on our feet! This is open to all Hitchhikers. Thanks for the nudge, Leonnn. xD

  • [fancypost bgcolor=translucent; border color = translucent; borderwidth=0px; width: 500px]Ashka stifled a laugh as her apprentice bounded to the clearing, her proud catch dangling in her jaws. Yvaine was so full of life, so youthful, it gave the scout hope. Though she was still young herself, Ashka's bones this past Leafbare had acted as is she was a retired elder. She figured it was just her missing limb injury acting up, it had been the first winter for her spent outside. She had creaked when she walked, she was sore when she went to sleep at night -- not that she had slept much for the past few moons. Ashka needed dry, warm weather, and Newleaf promised that. The sun was coming out, it was melting away the snow, inviting back prey. The scout's body was starting to smooth out, she could walk without a pang spiking up her leg. Her sincere smile was back, as long as her head remained clear. Beauty was in the world again. Insignia's youngest had told her thoroughly all the beautiful things about Leafbare, but it was hard to see for Scout Ashka. Beauty was based on her happiness, when she was not at peace and not content the scout found it hard to see even the simplest pretty things. It was her personal downfall, one she was trying hard to work on.

Nudging Yvaine with evident affection, Scout Ashka walked up to Moirai and dipped her head in greeting. The others followed shortly after, letting the Medicine Cat inspect their catch closer up. The she-cat still felt guilty for not coming forward to the small calico about her aching limbs, but it was nearly too late now. Besides, there had been enough sick cats throughout Leafbare to keep Moirai busy enough, her nonthreatening issue was the least of the health problems in the Hitchhikers. Thankfully, like her constant ache, the illnesses were starting to fade into oblivion. "Greetings, Moirai," Ashka smiled, hiding a grimace as the last of her aches prodded at her back right leg, closest to her old injury. "It's a lovely day, is it not?" She bumped Yvaine playfully as she talked, trying to act off her pain just in case anyone saw it in her expression.[/fancypost]

[fancypost bgcolor= transparent; border: 0px transparent; width: 498px; text-align: justify; font-family: arial; color: white; font-size: 9px;][glow=#1B2436,2,300]Sunlight. What a marvelous thing it was, glistening and brilliant and warm. It spread over the skies in amber rods and rays, chased the long-lasting clutches of winter frost from the earth; it brought forth blue skies and tender leaf buds and rejuvenated prey. Not even the moody, stone-tabby she-cat could deny that today was truly beautiful, promising, and full of life.
For the first time in a long time, the warrior actually felt hopeful. Perhaps it was just the ebbing winter, or the light and frisky air of the clanmates surrounding her. Either way, she was thankful for it.
When she had awoke that morning she immediately decided that she was not about to take the glorious sunlight hours for granted; thus, the feline had willingly leapt at the first mention of a hunting patrol that afternoon. Her skills and tactics were of course rusty, what with the very few catches she made the previous leaf-bare, but with a few tries Misery Business had fallen into a hunter's crouch as if it were home. To her delight, she'd even managed to catch a pawful of young mice. Although small, they would make a nice meal for a hungry Hitchhiker-- or Radicalclanner. While priding herself in her spoils, she'd barely noticed that the party had returned to camp and were being greeted with lighthearted words and playful gestures. Oh. Miz startled when she bumped into the side of Insignia, who had paused in his steps when they turned from the forest to the large, statue-accented camp of their feminist hosts. "Sorry," the tabby she-cat mewed curtly with a flick of her tail, then rounded the tom, passing Pyre, Ashka, Moirai and the rest, headed for the fresh-kill pile. Beautiful as the day may be, the femme was no longer one for large social gatherings as she once was before being separated from the clan; while she could tolerate the setting on a hunt or patrol, as soon as they got back to camp she was evading conversationalists and politely ducking out of small but lively groups. It was something of a habit now, one neither the feline nor canine parts of her could shake.
Heaving a belated breath, the she-cat plopped herself down in an uncrowded hallow. Her less than graceful paws had led her to the sunniest patch of ground they could feel and find, so Miz contented herself in the new-leaf air, breathed it in and tried to keep her thoughts and emotions calm, cool and collected.[/fancypost]

[/fancypost][/fancypost][fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: 0px; width: 500px; margin-left: -10px;][shadow=black,left]Vindicate had spent most of her time hunting. The entire endeavor with Etoile had caused a toll on the lynx, and when she appeared on the scenery, she looked worse for wear. She had grown significantly thinner, the lack of body mass only covered up by her sand-colored pelt and her sharp blue eyes. She seemed transfixed by the view of the hustle and bustle of the Hitchhikers-- they were as alive as the sun, yet how come the Scout was still stuck in the dead of winter?

Padding over, she dropped her catch, a small deer, into the remaining pile of fresh kill. Without speaking to anyone, she launched herself to the nearest tree, claws sinking easily into the bark of the trunk as she made her way to the higher branches of the flora. From her vantage point, she could see any sign of a certain black-pelted ex-loner-- had Etoile left the Hitchhikers for good? She had not talked to the other in ages, and feared that she would not run after her anymore if she were to decide to leave.

If Etoile wanted to unlatch herself from the group that protected her, then Vindicate would not stop her. She did not want the feline to feel trapped, enslaved. Although the lynx was used to group life, it was possible that Etoile felt differently, and so Vindicate would let her be. She was tired, tired of being the strong one for everyone. For once in her life, Vindicate wanted to be protected, too-- but she did not dare let that show. As far as they were concerned, she was still an emotionless, ruthless bitch. Settling herself onto a high branch, the lynx tucked her paws underneath her furry chest and watched her Clanmates come together to celebrate spring.[/shadow][/fancypost]

Apparition could be seen resting in the sun, it's powerful rays soaking into his snowy-white fur. He sighed, bringing himself to his paws and arching his back, stretching. The dirt, still a bit soggy from the long leaf-bare that was finally melting with the arrival of newleaf, clung to the tomcat, and he attempted to shake it off. Sighing once again, for the dirt seemed to want to stay in it's place, he padded up to the fresh-kill pile.

There was a large sum of prey in said pile, for with the warmer weather came animals emerging from their long hibernation. Carefully, he picked out a small mouse, and settled down in a warm area, apart from the busy Radicalclanners & other Hitchhikers who were busy working, whether it be going on patrols or taking advantage of the beautiful day. He ate his meal slowly, listening to the sprouting trees rustle in the light breeze, the birds chirping, prey weaving their way through the new grass...

  • Styx glanced upwards, spying the gathering of his Clan mates and friends. The blue tom lifted his body from the ground, giving a rough shake to dislodge some dirt from his pelt. He looked a bit disheveled, but that was alright. It wasn't like they were running a beauty contest or anything. The tom trotted forward toward Moirai and Scout Ashka. He dipped his head in a polite greeting, eyes brimming with a satisfaction that only the warm weather could bring. He was grateful to see the snow dissipating and even more grateful to see the flowers blooming. It was a wonderful day. "Hello, Moirai, Scout Ashka," the tom greeted happily, whiskers twitching. Now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen Flower in ages. It seemed normal for her to disappear for a while, but this long? He hadn't seen her in moons. A frown slowly crept across his features, replacing the once sunny expression. "You guys haven't heard from Flower, have you?" he asked softly. He knew he must be getting annoying. He was always asking after Flower, but what could he do? He had a burning passion for the queen that he was all but too afraid to admit. He didn't want to drive her away or make her upset with him, so he kept his feelings to himself. Though if you watched him closely, you could see the love in his eyes and the passion in his actions toward her. Perhaps she would figure it out eventually.

who's gonna' save the world tonight?
Moirai blinked and looked over at the thick-furred dark Hitchhiker, eyes worried. Styx thoroughly concerned for Flower, and perhaps the entire clan knew already except for the she-cat herself, but it was clear that the blue warrior had more than just friendly affection for the other. Moirai shook her head sadly. "No, I haven't seen her around lately." she answered calmly, twitching her tail in curiosity. "She could be out for a walk, perhaps, or maybe on a patrol, since the weather is so nice." The calico hadn't seen her kits around for a while either; what was up with Flower? Her eyes narrowed slightly. "I could scout around, maybe ask a few others if they've seen her. Or we could check the territory if she hasn't shown up in a while."

The calico apprentice turned to the three-legged she-cat, smiling warmly. The sun is finally out,"
she agreed happily, eyes wide and ears flicking. "Have you and Yvaine been hunting? I'm sure there is plenty more prey now that new-leaf is back. How have you been faring?"who's gonna' bring you back to life?

"Certainly is!" the apprentice responded cheerfully, without any of the darkness that seemed to tinge her mood as of late. She wondered briefly where Expecto had gone, but decided not to bring the black tom up in case he showed up shortly. She hadn't been seeing much of the older male apprentice as of late. She glanced happily up at her elder, glad her mentor seemed more open than before. The young trainee had noticed something off about her mentor but wasn't sure what it was; she simply couldn't place it. But it was bothering her mentor, and if Ashka didn't say something soon, the lilac tabby soon would.

[fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify; width: 300px;]The morning had been a glorious one, full of sunlight and bird's music and cloudless sky. The second hunting patrol to head out had been led by none other than the black and white tom himself; he was rather new to the clan still, and his foreleg still ached when he walked, but he was better than ever, restored to near full health by Moirai and Io's capable paws after the angry fight with the fox a couple of moons before. He had led Yvaine, Scout Ashka, and Scout Vindicate (hope that's okay, Lexibb and Peachybb) on a successful hunt, and they had brought back plenty that would surely feed the two clans for a couple of days, if not more. The former rogue shouldered his way through the crowd of cheerful felines and set down his own catch, a crow and a plump shrew, in the fresh-kill pile, which was beginning to amass quite a lot of feathered food as well as furry carcasses.

He wasn't feeling particularly hungry himself, though others had taken to shady patches of quickly-melting areas of the camp to feast upon the plentiful prey. It took a little more than a morning hunting patrol to burn all the energy that the broad-shouldered warrior harnessed; he felt that he would be able to go on another patrol now if someone called for one. Providing that that cat wasn't Caliyu, who had to be the most annoying she-cat in the history of she-cats. Instead, he looked for a quieter area to brood, or maybe just stay out of sight in case the other prickly warrior happened to be nearby. Spotting the usually silent Miz lying quietly in the sunlight by herself, the arrogant tomcat decided to go bother her. "Looks like someone could do with a pick-me-up." Jaime drawled, stalking towards the tabby she-cat.

  • ASHKA

[fancypost bgcolor=translucent; border color = translucent; borderwidth=0px; width: 320px]Ashka kept a smile on her face, albeit a forced one, but she kept it in her expression. The scout didn't want others to know she was in pain, it'd just cause worry and needless coddling. Cold, poor weather tended to make old injuries creak and become tirelessly sore, the three-legged cat had spent enough time with Moirai to know that much.

She gave Styx a sympathetic look, understanding his grief for the flight-risk cat. Ashka herself hadn't seen Riel in what felt like moons, though he had checked up on her a few weeks back. To her, in the present, it was forever ago. Her feelings for him were unlike any other, which meant being apart for so long effected her differently than all the rest, perhaps even Riel himself. "I'm sure, wherever she is, she's getting along just fine," the scout attempted to assure the blue tom. Of course, no words would be of comfort, she knew that as well as anyone.

Her attention back on Moirai, and thus her fullest concentration on her injury, Scout Ashka nodded her agreement. The weather was so perfect, the prey were back, the flowers almost in full bloom. Perfection. "We have been hunting," she purred, green eyes trailing towards Yvaine. Her apprentice was always so ecstatic, how could she herself not be? "Yvaine caught most of the day's catch, which totalled four small animals and two large." Her pride was evident, though most of the credit had to go to the small she-apprentice. Ashka couldn't help wanting to take a little of it.[/fancypost]
