“Unsurprising that he hasn’t,” the voice replied. “But you SHOULD care. You are his latest target. Zimri Gautland is a Terra Firma sympathiser… and a murderer.”
The blurred images on the screen disappears, and is replaced with the photo of a much younger Zimri saluting on a stage. Terra Firma logos and banners hang in the background, and there is a determined anger in his eyes as he looks out over the cheering crowd.
“It is his game,” the voice continues. “The sick bastard exploits aliens like tools, then murders them in cold blood once he has used them for his own ends.” The voice grows more urging. “Naria, you have to look past the illusion. You are hardly the first to fall prey to his charismatic personality.”
The voice cuts out, as does the photo of Zimri. Instead, a video loads on the screen and starts playing:
QuoteDisplay MoreZimri is standing in a room that looks like some sort of clinical facility, perhaps a laboratory. The camera angle suggests that the footage is from a security camera. With Zimri is a young asari in custom military gear.
“The drill has finished,” the asari says excitedly, reading her omni-tool. “Dropping the orb now.”
“Excellent work, Reyas,” Zimri tells her, and pats her shoulder encouragingly. “Then our work here is done.”
The asari smiles at him. “Yes. It’s finally over. We can finally put this behind us and start a new life together.”
“Of course,” Zimri assures her. “Just get your gear stowed away, my sweet. No point leaving expensive equipment behind.”
The girl nods eagerly and turns to put some of her things into a bag. As she does so, Zimri casually draws a pistol from his holster and aims it at her. The hiss from the gun when he switches off the safety makes the asari freeze, and she slowly stands. “Zimri?” she asked incredulously as she turned to face him with frightened eyes.
“You are the last,” he simply says, offering no further explanation. “This is how it has to be.”
The asari hangs her head dejectedly and sobs. “S-somehow I knew…” she whimpered, “There was always something cold in your eyes… I- I feared that you would do this, in the end.”
Zimri let out a cruel laugh. “And yet you obeyed me blindly, you disgusting alien!” At that, he pulled the trigger. The pistol barked off a shot that struck through the woman’s head, and she fell to the floor lifelessly.
The recording stopped, and the blurred image of Naria’s new friend returned on the screen. “I am sorry you had to sit through that,” the voice said. “But now do you see? This is who he is, and this is what will happen to YOU if you let him string you along.”
