It was like every other morning at my house: anarchy. The oldest two of my four younger brothers, Reese and Howie, were practically rolling around in a screaming ball of punching and kicking limbs on the floor while the youngest was throwing a fit in the living room over a broken toy. Sax, the second youngest, was flailing around on the couch with his hands over his ears to display the loudness of Zach's tantrum in the most dramatic way possible and my older brother, Dean, was yelling at my dad on his way towards the front door.
"Hey, Ace." His greeting towards me was friendly despite the angry way he walked. "And don't you come back unless you show up in a soldier's uniform and have served your country!" My dad appeared from the kitchen, finger pointed directly towards Dean as he yelled. Without another word, my older brother left, slamming the door behind him so hard, I flinched.
After a few moments of dead silence I turned to look at my dad, who let out a frustrated sigh and ran his fingers through his hair before heading back into the kitchen. "Winnie, could you take care of Zach?" My dad called wearily to our nanny as I quietly left the house, unable to bear anymore of the chaos that was my home. I'd scream to let my anger out although I would just end up killing my family, and however annoying they may be, I still didn't want them dead.
I wasn't sure how long I had walked, but I knew that it must have been longer than I had meant to go, because I arrived at the familiar path that lead into the forest. I eyed the pathway for a minute, glancing over my shoulder and thinking about what I would have to face again if I turned back now. With a sigh, I decided that it couldn't hurt to extend my walk a bit longer and so I began walking along the path, into the forest.
