  • Tess wandered in circles in her yard, not quite sure what raced through her mind before it was gone. She had been so pinned up in competitions and apointments and shows that she barely had time to herself, and was cross with herself for not enjoying it now. She decided to go for a walk, sliping through the gate and trotting out onto the sidewalk. She never worried about the Animal Control coming across her, she was a pretty well-known canine. She turned the corner, trying to avoid a lot of attention. She breathed in the soft scent of the evening air as she crossed into a park and sat to watch the day unfold.

  • "Hello there!" Stick yipped from inside her box. She was around four moons now, and never did a day go by that she wasn't in her box all day. She dug through the trash at night for food, but during the day she stayed in her box. More than once a human had tried to pick her up and take her home, but she'd run away from those humans. Stick didn't want those humans, she wanted her own. There she was, the box puppy on a street corner.

  • "Hello, who are you? Where are your humans?" She asked, she hadn't yet met a dog who didn't have humans. Then again, this dog could be like her and enjoy walks alone.

  • "They left me on this corner. I'm waiting for them to come back." Stick woofed eagerly. She would never give up on them. One day they would come back, she knew it. Stick would just have to wait long enough and they would come back here. And then they would take her home. Her life would be complete and content, but only with her own humans.

  • "And...How long was it since they left...?" Tess looked over Stick doubtfully. Aw, the poor mutt... I wonder if she knows they're not coming back for her... She felt a little sorry for her, but kept it on the inside. She didn't want to crush Stick's feelings, but she couldn't seem to get that doubtful glint out of her eyes.

  • "Over a month ago." Stick woofed sadly, lowering her eyes to the ground. "But one day they'll come back, and then I'll never ever let them out of my sights again. I love them so much." It was either them or a he, Stick was starting to forget her humans a bit. It'd been a long time. Heck, she wasn't even sure Stick was her name. She changed it every time someone asked.

  • "Well, I'll make sure to let you know if I ever come across them." Tess wanted to change the subject. "Erm- What do you like to do?" Tess asked, half-heartedly starting a conversation. Her concentration drifted to the dogs in the park, playing fetch or other games with their owners.

  • "I like watching the humans go by, I bet one of them'll be my humans one day. I can't wait until then. I'll be so happy to see them!" The mix blooded german shepherd puppy was quite hyper at the prospect of being with her humans again. It was all that she could think about really. Every day. Even as she went out of her box during night and looked for food she was still thinking about her humans.

  • Tess gave her head a small shake, this wasn't working. "How old are you, Stick?" She asked, her long chocolate brown fur falling back into place. She figured that Stick wasn't very old, by the way her eyes still held onto that excited sparkle despite being abandoned.

  • "I'm four months old." Stick yipped happily, wagging her tail. When she had first been abandoned she had been very sad, but she had gotten a lot of hope over the time. She'd in fact become more hopeful as time passed.

  • "Oh, poor thing..." Tess muttered sadly. "I remember when I was your age... I was just beginning to get into disc catching. I never would've dreamed that I would end up where I am now. Maybe you'll be like that, too, huh?" She turned to Stick, losing her doubt. Things change... She thought to herself, knowing there was a chance, no matter how slim, that Stick would be found.

  • "I've never disc caught anything before.. Though I had a ball. I want my ball back... It's sad without it around too." The first three months with her humans had been the best times in her life. She had dreams about it, and nightmares of being torn away from it. "But where are you now? I don't quite understand what you mean."

  • "What do you mean by 'Where am I now'?" Tess tilted her head to one side, wondering what the puppy could have meant by that.

  • "You just said that you never would've dreamt that you would end up where you are now. So where are you now? Why?" Stick yipped, her tail waging in excitement of talking to someone new. New people were always cool to talk to. Especially this girl. "Ohhh. Hey hey! My name's Stick!"

  • Tess smiled, "Ah, Hello, Stick! Well, you see, I'm one of the top disc-catching dogs in the events I go to. I win medals and trophies and stuff." She explained to the small German Sheperd Mix.

  • "Then why are you surprised your here?" Stick asked. She had thought that the gal was sad to be here. Those words were typically associated with sadness, so yah. "And you didn't say what your name was! I want to know what it is!"

  • "I guess I just never believed I could ever make it this far... My name is Tess, by the way." She said, smiling happily at her new friend. She liked the warm feelings friends brought. It wasn't often that she'd make friends, she was normally just too busy for them.

  • "I'm so glad to meet you Tess! Can you show me some disc catching right now?" Stick wanted to see some, she'd never seen any before, and seeing it would be the most amazing thing ever. She liked how Tess looked... All pure bred and awesome. She wished she could be pure bred.

  • Tess looked over to the people in the park, seeing that they didn't have a disc. "Come with me," She nodded in the direction of her house. She knew she could get her owner to play a quick game of disc with her. She bounded across the street swiftly then turned to see if Stick was following.

  • "I can't come with you right now. Most humans pass around during the day. And if my human passes while I'm gone I would totally never ever forgive myself." Stick woofed, shaking her head. She didn't want to leave her box, she really really didn't want to.
