• Okay, here we go! Pandora suggested a plotting thread, and here it is! We can now discuss what should probably happen next in the thread, and so on and so forth. ;)

Things to consider (off the top of my head):
-The eventual drama as Theo arrives home and finds out that there is, in fact, a winged being in his house.
-Octavia's infection, as discussed in the thread.
-Whatever the Caretakers might get up to next (Revenge, kidnapping, taking Lysander to a different facility further away from the others, etc.).

    Plot away!

  •
    Hey, Linear<3

Personally, I'm looking forward to Theo coming home and finding Lysander. That will be quite interesting! And as for the infection... I'm currently doing my research on that c: So far I've found...

    Symptoms

    - Increased pain.
    - Swelling.
    - Redness.
    - Fever.
    - Drainage of pus or cloudy substance.
    - Red streaking from the wound.
    - Separation of the wound.

Most contaminated wounds become infected between 24 to 72 hours after initial break in skin.

"The nutritional status of the patient can effect wound healing. A lack of carbohydrates, proteins, zinc, and vitamins can cause a delay in healing. Without adequate nutrition, collagen synthesis-which is the basis for wound healing-- cannot properly occur. Dehydration, causing electrolyte imbalance, not only can affect cardiac, kidney, and hormonal function, it also can decrease oxygenation to the tissues, thereby affecting wound healing." - direct quote.

Antibiotics will likely be needed. To care for the wound, soaking it in warm water or put a warm wet cloth on it for twenty minutes three times a day.
"Use a warm saltwater solution containing 2 teaspoons of table salt per quart of water. If the wound is closed, apply a heating pad or warm, moist washcloth to the reddened area for 20 minutes 3 times per day." - direct quote.

Anyways... As for the Caretakers, what should they get up to next?
I would really like to suggest that they go about capturing Claire, but City has been gone and all >_< I hope she can return soon. Anyways - skipping that idea, what next?
We should expand on them a little more, as characters. I mean, their social structure/chain of command, overall goals, etc, you know?

    I don't know...

Ooo. What if they have big boss man? One they all go to, who gives the orders, etc. And he orders that, instead of killing the meddlesome teenagers, they should attempt to kidnap them? This is where the idea takes a slightly cliche turn; but, what if they decide to use the teenagers as experiments? Testing new drugs on them that have a wide range of uses, using them like lab rats?
    I don't know cx I'm just spit-balling here, haha.

  • Hey guys!

So, yes. Theo coming home will be very dramatic. Such grounding. Very yelling. All that jazz. I've decided (as you may have already seen) that Theo will be coming home in the morning, after all the healing drama will have passed. Mainly because there's so much going on right now, I figured that it would be easier for everyone if most of this was already taken care of.

I'll make sure to soak up all that infection information so that Lizzie will know what the heck she's doing later on. And I've done some research of my own as to how they'll have to handle Lysander's arms.

-Put the arms in slings. We have plenty of those as Theo likes to be prepared for just about everything.

-Use ice for the pain and swelling. >_< Because I'm a complete noob, I totally forgot that there would even be swelling! And there's bound to be a lot since such a large part of his upper body was broken. For now, to explain the swelling, could we maybe say that it's just his super-genes or something? Maybe the swelling just takes longer to form for him? Sorry about this. I'll be better in the future. Promise!

I just checked City's profile and she still hasn't been on since mid-December. I think it's safe to say that she won't be coming back, at least for a while. If she does, then I like the idea of her being captured. Maybe she was in captivity the entire time?

And oh my dear lord, I literally had a spasm of giggles when I read that idea of yours Pandora. Them being used for experiments is just...SO GREAT! Gah, with like powers or weird mutations? It's like a writer's playground and character pain and misery and permanent emotional scarring! So goooood!

*Ahem* But, of course, I would love to hear Linear's opinion too. :-[

  • And I'm sure that somewhere in the yelling and the grounding will either be a whole slew of questions for Lysander or a demand that he leaves and never comes back. XD

I think I might have mentioned some sort of swelling earlier, and then promptly mentioned it no more. If the swelling was still there, we could of course simply say that Lizzie herself has forgotten a bit about that—surely she's a little frazzled by this whole experience.

I'm okay with the whole experiment bit, if you'd like to go ahead with that. Chances are that Lysander will not be taking part—the Caretakers will mostly likely isolate him and try to turn him against the human world again. However, I might end up playing a Caretaker or two so I'm not roleplaying completely by myself.

  • Ya, for real. Theo's kind of freaked out by men with wings. 8) No idea why.

Yeah, Lizzie is incredibly scatter-brained at times. Not the best attribute in a future doctor, but nature over nurture, I always say. :3

YES! I'm so pumped for this idea! *Throws confetti of excitement*

  •
It depends on how far you want to take that. It could range from experimenting new drugs (which, when you delve into that idea, it has a WIDE range of possibilities), all the way down to the major leagues, like powers or mutation, as Rainy suggested. Lysander would of course be separated, and roleplaying an escape would be challenging - but, of course, they'd manage in the end.

Still - how far do you want to go with the mutations thing? I'm hesitant at the idea of powers, but the thought of certain mutations (or just down right gruesome new additions to their forms) could be quite interesting. I mean - it's always nice to have a guinea pig to test things out on, and who better to be so than the annoying brats who screwed everything up? c; haha, lol.

  • Honestly, I'm a bit hesitant about the idea of powers as well—other than the whole accelerated healing thing, not even Lysander has what one would term 'powers.' Not to mention that the Caretakers would probably be extremely wary about giving powers to a bunch of teens who had messed things up for them before. So powers might be out.

That said, the extent of any mutations/additions is probably something that is more important for the two of you to come to agreement on than me—after all, Lysander isn't going to be there with them. I'll chime in with my own two cents on this—hence the above argument against powers—but you two should probably have the biggest hand in thie decision.

  •
Yes, I agree with that. I was thinking they would use the kids like guinea pigs, you know? Little test subjects. And when I mentioned gruesome additions, I had Lysander's wings in mind, but on a different level. They wouldn't give them wings, but perhaps they'd give them something else, with painful procedures? Give them something that would completely ruin their lives, things that the Caretakers aren't sure if they'll survive or not, you know?

To give them powers could backlash horribly, even the Caretakers could figure that out. But to curse them with something new would cruel. Something like bulls horns, or claws (non-retractable), and such like that. I know it sounds like a bit of a stretch, but it's kind of like a compromise. It's not powers, but it's something new and, to a degree, fairly reasonable. Considering they gave Lysander working wings (I'm remembering that correctly, right?), I'm sure they could work with other things, as well. Not to mention, it'd be a very painful process, and working through it would be extremely hard mentally and physically. It would be cruel, and when they managed to escape it would make returning to their old lives impossible. All the way around, the Caretakers would still win on some level. You see what I'm getting at? I hope that all makes sense cx

    I don't know. It's just a suggestion.

Also; though I greatly appreciate the level of rein and direction you give us, I think you, Linear, should have a large part in the decision, too. It is your thread, after all<3

The post was edited 1 time, last by pandora ❄ ().

  • They did indeed give him his wings. Lysander doesn't remember it, of course—as far as he knows, he's always had wings. I could certainly see the Caretakers inflicting something like what you mentioned upon Lizzie, Will, and Octavia, though. It wouldn't even have to be particularly useful. After all, Lysander and his wings were something they wanted to succeed, but with the other three...there's no real motivation to give them something they could use. They're basically just people that the Caretakers can test their ideas on without going to the trouble of raising a small child.

So if you want to go ahead and have new things given to them, I'm fine with it. It'll be quite interesting to see what happens and how they cope with it. :)

  • Yeah, I agree with both of you. Now that I think about it, powers do seem a bit too...stretched, if that makes sense. I was just excited. XD

Mutations would be much more interesting, as they're physical things that they would have to adapt to. Even looking in the mirror would become challenges for them to face. The emotional scarring, in a sense, would be even deeper than the physical ones. I was thinking along the same things as Pandora; maybe horns or claws, a new pair of ears or tails? Maybe even replacing a limb or two? What about gills? Though, that might be a bit too difficult to Rp with...

And capturing the Caretakers mentality on the entire thing will be fun, too. How they treat their specimens should be interesting to watch.

  •
It sounds like we're all on the same page about this c:
So - Lysander and Octavia spend a couple of days recuperating at Lizzie and Will's. Theo comes home to panic... And then what? How do we leap from that to kidnapping and experimentation?

How and why do the Caretakers find them...?

  • Theo is a man that is all about rules and predictability. When his parents died, he kind of went insane for a period of time, then settled down into a person with slight OCD habits. When he finds Lysander in his house, with another injured person and his two much younger twin siblings, he's gonna flip out.

I'm planning on having Lizzie calm him down since she is the one that is able to connect to him the most. If Will tried to do it, they would just end up punching each other senseless.

Eventually, Theo is going to see Lysander as a threat and call the police. I'm guessing that the Caretakers would may be be tracing the call, so they'll be able to arrive first and apprehend all the teens? Does that plan sound alright to y'all? :3

  • Well, the thing is that if Lysander knows he's not welcome, he's probably going to try to leave. If the Caretakers come along and take Lizzie, Will, and Octavia while he's gone or in the process of leaving, they could always use them to make him come along with them—false promises that he could keep them from getting hurt or even get them released, and so on.

  • I like where this is shaping up, you two. But how do the Caretakers know where to find them, since Theo will have yet to call the police? Or did I misunderstand you, Linear...?
Perhaps they've been looking. That makes a lot of sense. It wouldn't be a stretch to think that they could manage to find them and their house - especially since it seems they're not all that far away.

They could see Lysander exiting the house and confront him? And maybe he considers running, or flying away? But then the others of course have followed him outside, and the Caretakers quickly seize them before they even realize what's happening? I don't know.

  • That "quickly seize" plan sounds good to me.

So, instead of Lizzie actually talking Theo down, he just completely flips out, Lysander runs away, they chase after him, the Caretakers appear like black magic, and they're all captured? I wonder what they would do to Theo, since he would be freaking out if his little siblings were suddenly snatched away...

  • Well, we've got some wiggle room in the situation, as there are a couple different ways this could go. Lysander could stay while Theo is flipping out, then leave when he calls the police. The others could end up choosing to try and talk Theo down rather than chasing after Lysander, which could give the Caretakers time to show up and either just straight up snatch the three or make some sort of excuse about why they need to go along.

The quickly seize plan does have its benefits too, of course.

As for Theo...honestly, I'm not really sure what to do with him. Any ideas?

  • It might just have to be one of those "on the spot" plans that come to us as we go. I've spent a while thinking on this, but I haven't gotten any clear ideas...

    Blackmailing Theo, perhaps?

  •
    Well, let's see...

Theo is, in your words, Rainy, a man all about rules and predictability. He comes home after a typical work day. At first, everything seems normal. Now, with how things are moving in the thread, I'm going off of the assumption that Lysander and Octavia will have been moved out of the basement by the time Theo arrives home...

There are a few details that should be worked out and smoothed over first. Perhaps once we get them assigned, it will be easier to decide how all else transpires c: I always love going in with a plan. I mean - winging it is great, but I find myself more museful when I have direction cx I don't know - that's just me. Anyways - onto those details...

[ I'm speaking with assumptions and hypothetical scenes below, so, bare with me XD They're just ideas, and I invite you to disagree or push aside any of it that you dislike or feel isn't good<3 ]

    - Is it correct that Lysander heals quicker than most humans? Assuming that it is, then it wouldn't take him as long to heal from his gruesome wounds as it would for humans. Not wanting to stretch logic too thin, how about a day, or a day and half? Does that sound like a reasonable time frame for him to heal well enough? Not completely, if you'd like, but just enough that he has mobility?

    - The point above being said, that gives us a time-line. We already stated in the thread that Theo wouldn't be home until the following day... Perhaps he arrives home in the evening. By this time Lysander and Octavia should be out of the basement, and the basement should be cleaned up well enough, right?

Maybe he doesn't notice that Octavia and Lysander are around at first. It doesn't seem like he's the social butterfly, so, perhaps Will and Lizzie attempt to conceal their guests from their older brother? If only for a little while. It wouldn't last too long - maybe for a few hours, maybe for a single night (it's really up to what you feel is best). This could give us a fun opportunity to discuss how Theo finds out about the two c:

For example... Octavia will be suffering from an infection, right? Perhaps as she begins to notice the signs of infection (pain at the wound, reddening, swelling, fever, etc), she heads to the bathroom to get a good look in the mirror. Maybe as she's struggling to keep her shirt up and take the bandage off and all, she makes a bit of a commotion? Knocking things over, or something. Anyways, maybe Theo thinks it's Lizzie and comes to investigate (or to simply say something to Lizzie), and sees Octavia.
    Poof. The story unravels.

    OR

Lysander awakes in a room alone. Through a series of uncertainties he decides that perhaps it's best to stray from the room and look for Lizzie or Will. Maybe he has a question, or wants to remove the cast. Or maybe he just wants to know whats going on, you know? So, he follows the sound of voices and happens upon Theo and Will / Lizzie (one or both).
    Poof!

These are just two small suggestions - there are WAY more interesting ways for it to happen. I mean - talk about options cx These were just the first two that popped into my head.

  • It's up to Linear when the shoulders should be completely healed, but the casts (in my opinion) should be able to come off after just a couple of days. After that it's just building up their strength and taking it easy.

Yeah, Theo would get home in the late evening and probably just go to bed on the couch. He'd be too tired to do anything else. That would give us until about noon the next day until he woke up.

I like the second idea, where Lysander stumbles upon them? Theo would see his wings and probably freak out, calling the police. Will would then freak out and punch Theo in the face. Ooh! Knocking him out! Then, when the Caretakers get there, Theo is just an unconscious heap on the floor!

That sounds like a roughly decent idea. What do you guys think?

  • Yes, I'd say that it takes him at least a day or so to get the casts off, perhaps more if he is feeling particularly cautious and wants to make certain his shoulders are back to normal.

I, too, rather like the second idea! It would provide us with a nice shocked reaction from Theo, which in turn would give Lysander ample reason to run away. However, I do have a slight problem with knocking Theo out, I think. Admittedly, I am not always the most realistic, but if I remember correctly, knocking someone out is actually a really serious thing - especially if it's long enough that he's still out cold when the Caretakers arrive.

Perhaps it would be better if he wanted to stay in the house until the police arrived, while Lizzie, Will, and Octavia (or some combination thereof) decided to go after Lysander - probably without Theo's approval?
