It’s been about a decade since the last battles of WWII happened.

Ah, WWII. The worst time of Philippines’s life, mostly thanks to Japan. All the death marches, the tortures, the forcing of things she didn’t even want to talk about—yes, all thanks to him. They were such good friends back then, ever since he had washed up on her shores and since then began trading with each other... that is, until the Spanish arrived.

Living with Spain wasn’t so bad, really. It began to get worse the more she spent time with him, so eventually she decided to hold a revolution against him—well, multiple, actually—all of which failed.

    Until America came along.

Now, America... He was really kind. Sure, he was a bit annoying at times, but he basically freed her from Spain.

    And then, WWII...

No, she didn’t even want to think about it. The Bataan death march, the Battle of Manila... no. No.

She was sitting in her house now, staring at the ground and trying not to remember. That time was too traumatizing and painful for her. America had saved her again, this time from Japan, but he had been too late. The damage had already been done. And he didn’t even bother to apologize—all he did was leave. She understood he had more important things to do, but saving a good friend late and not apologizing? That’s just...

    No, no, stop, Philippines. Stop...

America stared at the rear view mirror, his finger rapped quietly against the steering wheel. Exhaling softly, he glanced over to the house. That peculiar house standing still in time and whenever he have a chance to take a look at it--still there and content. He often went pass this quaint house, not bothering to stop for a moment and rang the doorbell. Half of him knew to stay away--never trusting. These good little things aren't always come with a good price. Somehow he felt there's a sacrifice to be made--freedom that is. Curiosity etched in his mind as he remembered his short conversation with his brother, Canada.

"You seem bothered...what is it?" Canada said softly as he set down his hot coca on the table. The diner bustled with chatters and plates clattering back at the kitchen. Waitress hollered their orders, ringing the bell for attention. Cooks grumbled and hustled as they work as fast as they can.

    "Perhaps..."

America bit his lips, shaking away from his reverie and stared at the house again. Still there--waiting. Curiosity may kill a cat, but not if the cat's ready for it? Okay, that came out wrong. America chuckled at himself as he got out of the car, tossing his sunglasses at the seat. Closing the door softly with a thud, he made his way towards the house.

Philippines was, by now, still contemplating her history. It was crazy, like every other countries’ histories, and hers was probably considered “normal.”

Sighing, she held her head in her hands, rubbing her temples. Maybe she just needed to relax. She was working hard these days, anyways. It was her nature. Always working hard, supporting her people, being rich enough to keep the country alive. It was hard, but worth it.

The girl stood up, tucking her hair behind her ears. She needed at least an hour of relaxation, and she needed it now. The only problem was that she didn’t know how to achieve that with all the stress she had. “Ugh, I’m hopeless...”

America stopped in front of the stairs, looking up at the house with puzzlement. A wave of hesitation crashed over him, wondering who's the owner of the house. Something of the house strike him with familiarity and sense of discomfort. America frowned at himself, shaking away the thought of backing away.

Taking one step at the time, he climbed the stairs to the top. Without pausing to think this through, he rang the doorbell, stepping aside as he waited for the door to open. Then his phone rang abruptly.

She was surprised by the doorbell ringing, really.

Philippines looked up from her little floor-staring session, looking at the general direction the front door was in. She didn’t expect visitors tonight. She didn’t invite anyone over, didn’t she? Sure, there was a world meeting about a week ago, so maybe...

It’s probably some of my human friends... She sighed, standing up and walking over to the door. Hey, at least she won’t be that tensed up now. Finally, more than one hour of sleep... maybe. She didn’t know. She silently placed her hand on the doorknob, taking a deep breath, then opening the door.

Honestly, she did not expect this. “...America...?”
