Since I have a sudden muse surge...

Things Jay has against Mage:

-Motive
He's got an entire back story, and he's not afraid to show it. Jay hates Mage almost as much as Nisra does. When Mage started accepting faeries and demons into the school, Jay started to hold a grugde against Mage for the racial freedom that the now school held. Besides, he'd learned for most of his school life that it was the demons and the faeries that brought the Gryjr to Drygria. He hated Mage afterwords, prompting his swift actions against her. He also hated her free attitude, thinking that it put students at risk, as well as herself. He didn't understand why she took the leadership role like it was a curse, and tried to take the throne. When she retaliated, he became enraged.

-Weapons
Jay has an entire arsenal of weapons, including experience. He uses an enchanted katana as his primary weapon, seeing as it is easiest to use (from his previous fencing experience). The katana was hand-crafted by elves in Drygria, and a spell was cast upon it, giving the user extreme power (but we all know the saying about power, don't we? Spider-man, people!) and strength.

-Support
I would be lying to you if I said that Jay was alone in his actions. He is too experienced to simply act alone, and uses many other inside resources to get what he needs. One of his main supporters was Nisra. Seeing as El was one of the smartest and most experienced students on the school premises (up there with Morrigan, Emalyn, Lili, etc. We're counting those that were there in Drygria), Jay knew that he had to get him distracted, if only for a few moments. So when it seemed that El was injured, Jay made sure that Nisra was available to cooperate. Though surprised, Mage gratefully and unknowingly accepted her help. Jay also is in touch with several of the guards of the dungeons, and got into the castle swiftly and silently.

But what exactly does he have against her?

Jay thinks that Mage's hyper 'I love chinchillas' attitude is all an act. Since the beginning, he thought that she was playing him and other students into some other scheme. Whenever she told a joke, or acted excessively funny, he seemed to grow more and more oppressive to her leadership. He knows her real name, her back story, and all of the deep dark secrets of her life.

So, basically, he's the Anti-Mage.
