[Font=times new roman] It was a quiet day in the facility.

It's shining white walls were freshly cleaned and smelled of linen. Tobias found an odd comfort in the scent. The man had spent the better part of his morning sitting at his desk, reading the books and the drinking the coffee the Abkommen caretakers had provided him. The uplifting fact that he was granted luxuries almost cleared his mind of the shackles restraining his legs. He allowed a second to be used entirely to inwardly thank the fact that he had a toilet. Although.. A window would have been nice too... He shrugged and leaned back in his chair, placing his bare feet on the desk.

He rested his eyes. He needed this. However, there would be no sleeping now. That forbidden luxury was reserved for only when it was completely necessary to retain his health and sanity. He opened his eyes, dissapointed with the lack of relief. He dogeared his book (A murder mystery novel -- his favorite.) and glanced at himself in the mirror. Tobias prodded at the bags under his eyes with his pinky finger, wishing there was a skin ointment that would make them go away instantly. He sighed and pushed his glasses back up his nose. There was no helping his poor complexion. He took a greedy sip of his coffee.

The post was edited 1 time, last by InkSick ().

  • Alex hummed cheerfully as he made his away into work, throwing the stub of a cigarette into the waste basket before entering. Apparently it was a 'fire hazard' and he couldn't smoke one while on the job encase he 'started one'. Honestly Alex called b******t on that. The entire facility was practically glass and stone. He wasn't allowed one because some of their subjects had fire powers, which was cool, but prevented him from his release of frustration.
Rin whistled tunelessly to himself as he bounced a rubber wall on the concrete wall of his cell. They didn't allow him anything else because he could and would burn it. Just thinking about burning something caused tiny blue flames to appear on the shoulders. Grumbling to himself he quickly swatted him out and continued bouncing the stupid ball. It was a boring thing, but at least it was something to do. He had only been here a week, but his sanity was already starting to wear thin.

  • Beeline was resting in her specialized cell--somewhat similar to an aquarium, only with bulletproof glass and real coral. The mermaid could go above to breath some stale, acrid air and rest on a rock with a powerful lightbulb to act as a pathetic attempt at the sun. At least she had a few fish friends to talk to, otherwise she'd go insane in this place. The whole set up was an awful recreation of her home. Sighing, she rested her head in her hands as her soft blonde hair billowed around her. Her strong, beautiful, sea-green tail curled around on the seabed, shifting the sand.

Ember was simply pounding away at the dummy they had so graciously given her to practice and help with her anger. She resented this entire facility, the people within it, the stupid walls--well, you get the idea. She didn't want to spend her entire life in a box, being poked by needles and studied. She was human too! Uh..sorta. With a whirling kick, the weretiger snarled, sending the dummy crashing against the far wall. She plopped down back on the beanbag, a sigh escaping.

  • Tobias pushed his bare foot against the edge of the wooden desk, sending his plain, old chair into the stressful limbo of a tilt. He used his other foot to open his diary. For a delicate task such as opening a notebook with one's toes, precision and steadiness is key. Thankfully, Tobias didn't tend to lack in either of those aspects. As such, the task was completed with the guarantee of success that only comes from daily repetition. He lowered his legs and allowed the poor, old seat to return to its former, four-legged glory.

Tobias brought pen to paper at last. This diary and his books were the only things that occupied his time whilst he was in his cell. Which, in all aspects, was a damn long time. He wrote about his morning -- which started with being restrained to his rarely used bed. That was just a precaution of course. All the facility needed was a blood sample. He never fought them. He was a cooperative and hopeful man. Tobias would continue to provide to Abkommen as long as they continued to promise a cure for his condition. Yes... He would like that very much. To live among normal humans again! That was his dream!

The sounds of doors shutting and opening alerted him to the changing of shifts. Ah! The day staff had begun coming in! Wonderful -- he needed more coffee grinds..

  • Rin stopped bouncing the ball just as the shifts switched. "See yeah Slug!" Rin called with a snicker. He had nicknames for all of his guards. Slug was the night guard, he got his name for being the laziest, slowest, most boring and bland person Rin had ever met. The morning guard was Ray of Sunshine 9Ray, Sunny, or Sun for short), mainly because he was a hot-head who was always in a bad mood and got the most riled up at Rin's little insults and teases. He was the most fun, but also one of the scariest, because he was in charge of taking Rin places, and Rin would have preferred not to be killed by the huge brute. The afternoon guard was Shortie (Midget, elf, pixie, etc) she was very tiny, but packed one h*ll of a punch, and was very strict and silent. Rin had cracked her a couple of times, but she was still on of the harder ones. Rin's thought where cut off as Sunny came into view,
"How's it going Sun? I've been waiting for you all day." Rin grinned. "You know, I think we've become closer, ever since you became my guard, and I feel like I can confide in you."
"Shut up." Sunny growled, Rin just laughed.

Alex walked down all the corridors, since he was one of the head guards, he didn't have an assigned cell, he was just told to walk down the halls and ask for updates on the subjects. As he walked he looked around, still humming a song that had been stuck in his head for ages. It was some song by a dude named Mark Ronson, Uptown something or other. It was on the radio a lot, so Alex really had no other choice but to listen to it.

  • Dr. Reishman, head local psychologist, was sipping coffee in his chair, reading a book while he waited for his next patient. A few of the patients detained here were legally insane. If they weren't, they still had a few emotional issues that needed to be sorted out. There was the aggressive mermaid, the dragon-human hybrid's psychotic moods, and the discomfort of Tobias, the were-beast.
He would be seeing one of his patients today. But not for another ten minutes. He could wait before the session began.

The dragon-hybrid creature name Senixus was snarling to himself again. It wasn't anything delusional or irrational this time around, just an exercise to wake himself up. He stretched his wings, stretched his body, and yawned loudly.
Then, he spoke to one of the guards passing by. "Good morning, Alexander. Or is it the after afternoon? I lose track of time easily." Senixus had a raspy, but child-like voice. A few found this unnerving, but he figured that by now, the guards should be used to his quirks.

  • Tobias closed his diary for the time being. The day wasn't over and, as such, he may find more events to record the tome of his life with the passing of time. He chewed on the end of his pen, a bad habit of his, before dropping it into the surface of the desk to await future use. The man stood, gazing around his lightly furnished cell. While he didn't have much (and it needed to be replaced quite often due to unexpected snoozes) he was generally pretty comfortable in Abkommen. The provided him with the security and luxury he needed to live a somewhat comfortable life. Tobias itched his wrist, looking for a way to approach his need of coffee grinds. He supposed the usual way of going about it would work.

However, now that his nightguard had retired for the day to come. He only had to wait for either the day guard or a patrolman to go by his cell. Tobias stepped towards the reenforced glass wall of his cell. Thankfully, there seemed to be someone coming near -- a head guard by the look of his uniform. Now was his chance. He banged on the glass with a balled fist. "Ah, yes! Sir? Forgive me I do not know your name.. Ah! I have a request, though! Come here please!" He said loud enough to be heard through the glass. Tobias continued to bang the glass as he waited.

  • Bee turned her head, opening her eyes to peer through the glass and look at the guard who walked past her cell. One of her fish friends, a clown fish, blew bubbles in her face as it swam by. "I know, I know, Dare. I should be happy that I'm alive. But..I feel like there should be more." The mermaid sighed, pushing off of the rock with a flick of her powerful tail. It was larger than the others, only so she could at least get some swimming room.

Ember had french braided her hair to keep it out of her face, now absently humming. She was going to go insane in this place--it smelled like bleach and she constantly was sneezing. Also, the fact that she couldn't talk to anyone. Only this guy who went in to everyone's cell, and just asked things like, "How're you feeling?" She rolled her eyes. How did he think she was feeling?

  • Paige had been up and at 'em before the crack of dawn monitoring machines via snazzy computer. He'd noticed some hijinks going on with one of the ventilators and was dead-set on fixing it! His recent grant had also come up successful and a few sun lamps were on there way over from wherever it was the things were made. Paige assured himself it was probably China, this made him feel like he would soon have to go off writing more grants and quickly blanked out on his ability to think. He rolled about in the cool office's chair all the way to the door. It wasn't his office, of course, but he was very well entitled to it if this place wanted properly-functioning machines! Paige did his best messiah impersonation as he rose from his seat. With a one, an' a two, he opened the door which closed him off from his duties with the sly deliberation of a very poor politician. He strode down the hall without closing the door behind him, because he was pretty sure it locked whenever it was closed and it would have been really rude to lock someone out of their office! Especially since the keys were inside there...

  • "Ah, it is in a fact a good morning, isn't it Senixus." Alexander smiled at the hybrid as if he had crossed paths with an old friend. Honestly he didn't understand why other guards treated these patients like animals, they where humans, they had brains that worked just the same, perhaps even better than most, they looked and sounded human for the most part, so Alexander made a point to treat them with the respect they deserved, even if they where locked up. He walked past Senixus's cage and was immediately called out to by another subject. He walked over to their cage, trying to remember the man's name. Toby? No, Tame? Worse, ah Tobias, yes that sounded correct.
"What is it Tobias?" Alex asked curiously. At this point in the morning he was still rather formal, but it changed as the day went on. Being a head guard Alex stayed in the facility till the end of the afternoon shift, and by then he was a lot more rowdy, mainly because he was only allowed to smoke once cig in the amount of time it took the Morning and afternoon guards to switch.

Rin had been teasing Sunny for a good ten minutes, and the guard was nearly at his breaking point.
"Geez old man, are you grumpier than normal?" Rin commented, and finally the man had had enough.
"That's it! I'm going to the manager about you, you spoiled little brat!" He shouted yelling at another guard to take his position as he stomped down the hallway. Rin shrugged, this was the first time something like that had happened, but Rin wasn't worried, instead he looked at his new guard, deciding what name to give him, finally he decided.
"Welcome to my guard ro5tation Four-Eyed mole face." Rin grinned at the new, innocent guard who had no idea what he just got himself into.

  • Paige had galloped/strutted/waltzedwithanimaginarypartner all the way to the ventilator's main only to discover the problem was some fault within the vent's structure. Paige did some opening of locked boxes and a pulling of a lever in order to shut the thing down so he could work on it safely without being CHOPPED into a BILLION bloody bits. ((It may now be known that the S.O. knows nothing about how ventilators work, but will continue to pretend she does for the time being.)) He already knew where the air wasn't coming out or leaving from, so he walked backwards down one of the halls the vent-shaft ran along, trying to pin-point where the problem was coming from. It was likely only a minor blockage which caused a major discomfort for a few of the building's forever-citizens.

  • Tobias stopped banging on the glass when his call was answered. He raised a finger as he stepped back. "Just give me a moment.." The man might as well have skipped towards the singular wooden cabinet in the far corner of the cell -- right by the desk. He opened the cabinet, and scrambled through it, looking for something. "Ah! Here we go..." Tobias stood up, an empty, plastic Tupperware in hand.

The man approached the glass wall. In the center of the transparent wall there was a large, stainless steel drawer that could be opened from the outside. The whole set-up made Tobias feel like that one character. What was his name again... Ah! Lector! Hannibal Lector -- that was the one! The man slipped the Tupperware container into the drawer and closed it so Alex could retrieve it.

"I honestly don't mean to make you feel like an errand boy -- that's not your job... Heh. However, it would make my life a helluva lot easier if you could possibly.. Fetch a refill of coffee grinds for me? Pretty please?"

    Tobias offered a smile.

  • Noelle was sitting at his desk and talking on the phone with a prying news reporter looking for a story. This was an everyday thing, or a very common occurrence at least. He was trying to talk but the chatty guy on the other end wouldn't stop babbling and asking questions. These questions were ones that he couldn't even answer if he wanted to. His tiny desk fan spun to the left and fell off his desk when his sliced oranges fell off their spot on top of a metal rack. The daily struggle! He got up, still on the phone, to pick up the mess on the other side of his desk. Hopefully he would be able to get out of his office soon, this place gave him the creeps. Mainly because he could be mauled to death at any hour.

  • "Eh, sure, why not?" Alex shrugged and took the container, then made his way down to the coffee machine in the staff lounge. He opened up the glass jar containing the beans and poured some into the container. He really didn't have anything better to do after all. When he finished pouring he snapped the plastic lid on the thing and walked back to Tobias's cell. "Here you go Tobias." He put the container into the metal thing and gave him a friendly smile. He could feel himself already craving another hit of his cancer sticks, but knew he was in here for the long hall, so just sucked it up. Just as he was about to leave someone rammed into him, he locked like the morning guard from Rin's cell. Alex knew that kid perfectly well, Alex always got constant complaints about him, mainly because the guars where fed up with his constant teasing.
"Hey Rand, where are you going in such a hurry?" Alex asked.
"To the manager, I'm sick and tired of the little brat. Who does he think he is? I won't take his harassment anymore." Ran growled.
"Whoa bud, calm down, instead o going to the manager, how about we ask Dr. Reishman if he'll take Rin as a patient, we wouldn't want to upset the big guy, right?" Alex laughed awkwardly, a small bead of sweat appearing near his hair line. The boss was definitely not someone you wanted to mess with. He was cold, callous and cruel, most guards didn't know the extent of the mans brutality, but Alex was someone who had seen it first hand.
"Fine, I hope that psychologist can straighten the urchin out." Rand grumbled, and they made their way to the Doctor's office. Alex knocked on the door politely.

Rin sighed, four eyes refused to partake in any of Rin's teasing, so he was left to resort to his last effort on quenching his boredom. He made a small ray of blue fire appear in his palm, then slowly began to shoot it at the wall, it creating a thick black line, that looked similar to a pencils line., Yep, he was drawing.

  • The Doctor stopped for a moment when he heard the knock. It was about five minutes until his scheduled visit. Since he knew that the organization was very punctual, he assumed it must have been an emergency. So, he calmly got out of his armchair, and walked over.
When he opened the door, the two Guards Alex and Rand where standing there. Rand looked very flustered. "Is there a problem?" Dr. Reishman asked, concerned.

  • "Nothing to be too concerned about.' Alex assured the man. "But the subject Rand has been entitled to guard has been acting up as of late, and Rand is very, very frustrated about it. We were wondering if you could take some of you time to see if you can help with troubled subject and find out what's causing him to act like this." Alex asked politely, but there was a pleading note to his voice. Alex was fed up with Rin's guards always coming up to him asking him to deal with the problem. Alex didn't have time to watch Rin, he had bigger things to do.

When Rin finished he (along with majority of the room) was covered in charcoal that would take months to fully rinse off (no wonder his hair was pitch black), but he was smiling with pride at his creation. It had taken him a good ten minutes, but he knew that it was worth it, both because It was awesome and because he knew the guards would probably yell at him for it. He thought it was a rather blatant statement of what he wanted.

  • "Alright," The psychologist said wearily. It was always Rin, wasn't it? "Bring him here, and I'll speak to him."

  • "Thank you Dr. Reishman." Alex nodded, then he and Rand left to go grab Rin. The walk was awkwardly silent, save for Alex's tuneless whistling and Rand's incoherent grumbling. Alex hoped that the doctor could sort Rin out before he had to cover up yet another subjects death. Seriously, one complaint to the manager and boom, dead. It wasn't a very quick one either, all dependant on the bosses mood. The last one still scarred Alex, evfen though he tried not to think of it very often. Finally they made it to Rin's cell, and Alex peered in to see Rin's latest 'masterpiece'.
    "G*d*mnit Rin!" Alex growled.

"Oh hey mole face long tim no see." Rin grinned at the head guard. Alex was usually a patient guy when it came to Rin, but with the drawing and Sunny's complaint Rin knew that Alex was done with him. "So where are we going today? The gallows?" Rin asked jokingly, but Alex's murderous glare was a little unnerving.
"What the h*ll is this!" Alex shouted gesturing to the drawing. "That's going to be so hard to clean up Rin! Why do you have to be such a nuisance?" Alex complained Rin just shrugged.
"I thought it was the best way to ask for it.' He shrugged Alex just shook his head.
"Rin if you don't get your act together soon, you really are going to get killed for it.' Alex warned, then opened up Rin's cell and brought him out. "Now we are going to see Dr. Reishman to see if he can't sort you out, and if he can't then your going to the boss." That shut Rin up rather effectively, and the walk to the office was eerily silent. Alex knocked on the door, a little louder this time.
