Darkpaw crept out of the trees, glancing around. Jaws parted, he tasted the air for any scent of nearby Thunderclan cats. Satisfied none were around, he crept to the stream, watching the small current. His blue eyes glinted, and in a flash, he had caught a large fish and started to play with it in his paws. He hadn't killed it yet.

"Riverclan, why hunt here?" mewed Dazzlefur, a light ginger she-cat that had fur that refected light like the river, stepped out of the bushes and looked at the riverclan cat.
-
Darkpaw blinked, startled as the fish seized it's chance and jumped back into the river. "Fox dung," he hissed under his breath, as his fur started to ruffle and he started to back away. "None of your business," he said.
-
"But this is thunderclan territory, and riverclan already has a river" she mewed again, but softer this time, she didnt want to startle the tom.
-
"I-I hadn't realized I crossed the border," the tom lied. His fur slowly flattened, and he relaxed a little. His blue eyes widened. "Please don't tell anyone," he pleaded.
-
"Are you sure? Dawn patrol put fresh scent markings today. " mewed dazzlefur, wondering why the tom wanted to be in the stream.
-
Darkpaw sighed. "I give in," he mewed."My mentor died in the battle with Sunclan," he choked, eyes clouding with grief. "I haven't been assigned a new mentor yet as River clan is caught up in battle. Theyve assigned me apprentice duties, and won't let me in the battle to avenge him. So I thought that if I caught large amounts of prey, they'd realize I am fit enough to become a warrior and fight alongside my clanmates." He paused to look at her. "I hadnt expected to be caught," he said quietly.
-
"Oh, I'm sorry." she mewed, she felt sorry for the tom then mewed, " The warrior code, is the warrior code though. But if you want, I can help you hunt in riverclan territory."
-
"It's fine," he snapped defensively, then he became apologetic. "sorry," he mewed. "and you better not, what if we run into a patrol or something? I don't want to cause trouble," he said. "Thanks for the offer though," he mewed, embarrassed. "Please show me the way back to River Clan."
-
"Ok, follow me" she walked up stream until they reached sunning rocks. Then she remembered that she burried fresh-kill here, then dug up a large rabbit and two mouses and gave them to Darkpaw and mewed, "Take this, this forest is rich with prey now. Swim across the river and you will be in riverclan territory."
-
Darkpaw blinked with surprise. "No, it's fine," he mewed. "I'll just pester them to put me on a hunting patrol. Besides, I don't have the skills to catch prey on dry land as well as you, and they'll be suspicious." he broke into a surprising purr. "Thanks for the offer though," he mewed. "I forgot to ask, what's your name?" he kneaded his paws on the ground, embarrassed.
-
She put the prey down and mewed, " My name is Dazzlefur" while she mewed, the wind blew at her fur, making the fur shine brighter, then said, "I have some riverclan blood." she looked over the edge of the river then in a flash caught a fish with her teeth.
-
"Hello, Dazzlefur," he purred, entranced by the way her fur always seemed to sparkle. "I'm Darkpaw," he stuttered, shuffling his paws, embarrassed he wasn't a warrior yet. "That was impressive, I admit I didn't see you catch that," he mewed, nodding his head to the fish. "You hunt as well as any River clan warrior, if not better."
-
Dazzlefur purred at the compliment, "Thank you, but you should become a warrior soon, you are nearly as big as me!"
-
"I hope so," Darkpaw lick his fur in embarrasment. "But I'm not that old, really. I've only been apprenticed for two moons," he admitted.
-
"So was I, but I was trained for a moon and a half. I went in two battles, thats why I'm a warrior so soon" she mewed
-
"Lucky," the Tom mewed. Then his face became clouded with anger. "I wish they could let me go in this battle," he mewed angrily. "My clan could use another warrior," he sighed sadly. "too many have been lost already," he said mournfully.
-
"I can get Thunderclan to come and help with battle" mewed dazzlefur
-
"I wouldn't want any more warrior lost," the Tom replied. "And more than likely, Thunder clan warriors may attack River Clan warriors. He sighed sadly. "Thanks hough," he mewed. "When can I see you again?" he said, studying his paws hiding the embarrassed look upon his face.
-
Dazzlefur smiled and mewed, " Meet me by the river here, or we may cross the bridge so we don't cross borders" she nudged the fish closer to Darkpaw and mewed, "At least take the fish, the river is riverclan's territory,"
