  • "Duilin, you won't disgrace your family." Farrah said quietly, her voice just as low as his own. She gently squeezed his forearm, "It'll be okay." She murmured, "You're an extremely smart gentleman, there's no way you can disgrace your family around these elves." Searching his face, the girl gave a small smile, "Don't worry about it... If it makes you feel better, you're the first elf I've ever met.... So I'm just as nervous...."

  • He offered a faint smile. "Thank you for your belief in me, m'lady Farrah," Duilin murmured, re-bandaging one of her arms and moving to the other. "But there are many ways in which I could disgrace my family, even by mistake. All it would take would be one disrespectful word, one mistake in how to address them or whether it is my turn to speak, one silly stumble in Sindarin, and it could create the idea that I am uneducated, unelflike due to living with the humans. Perhaps they would be more generous with me than that, but...perhaps not. I cannot know."

  • Farrah watched him, a small frown appearing on her face, "Even a small mistake causes disgrace?" She asked quietly, "Surely they're more forgiving than that." Taking a deep breath, Farrah closed her eyes, "I don't think you need to worry. THey do seem like they'll be more linent than that." IN the midst of Farrah and Duilin's conversation, the elves obviously heeding it unimportant, one of the elders spoke, "Master Duilin, as we are traveling through the way and stopping only to make camp, perhaps you and the human would partake in a meal with us."

  • "Both Farrah and I would be honored to share a meal with you," Duilin offered in reply, dipping his head as a sign of respect. To Farrah, he responded softly, "If it is the wrong mistake, then both I and my family seem strange, uncultured, unelflike. It is not a risk I wish to run any more than is strictly necessary."

  • The girl nodded a little bit at Duilin's words, "Alright. I will likely remain silent, then." She said quietly, blinking up at the elf beside her before wincing, "Will you help me sit up and fix my shirt?"

  • "Well, first I'm going to put a little of the athelas on your chest wounds," Duilin pointed out softly, carefully beginning to undo those bandages and positioning himself so he would block the view of the other elves. Even though he doubted that they would look over at such a time, he did not want Farrah to feel uncomfortable at the thought that they might accidentally see what was going on. "Then, however, I would be happy to assist you in whatever way necessary."

  • Farrah gave a bit of a smile, "It's fine." She answered gently, "You know what you're doing... Well, more than I do." The girl watched him, resting on the ground beside him as she took in a breath, "I really am thankful for you doing this." She murmured.

  • Duilin nodded slightly. "I am happy to be able to help you, even if I wish it were under different circumstances." He offered a faint smile. "Thank you for your confidence in me, by the way. It is...it is good, feeling as though someone believes that I am skilled at something." He began to rewrap the bandages, watching her with a steady grey gaze.

  • The girl gave a gentle smile, watching him quietly, "You are skilled, even if you don't believe you are." Farrah breathed out, watching him quietly, "My arms are feeling better.... How deep are the wounds on my chest?" She asked quet;y/

  • "Not too deep," Duilin murmured. "You should recover in due time...although it would be best if you were able to stay in one place and rest. Until we find a suitable place, though, I'm afraid that cannot happen. After all, I- I still have a message to deliver to the Dunedain." He didn't like to do things like love injured people, but the message really was quite important, and he didn't think that it could wait for too long.

  • Farrah gave a weak smile, "I'll be fine." She answered, watching Duilin, "I can heal on the way. It's more important that you deliver your message." The girl slowly sat up and gently rested her hand on Duilin's, "You let me come after all I've done. I've slowed you down quite a bit; I don't mind moving like this. It's theleast I can do."

  • "Regardless of my job, you are here as well," Duilin pointed out, keeping his voice calm despite his growing frustration with this whole argument. "It would be wrong of me to abandon my duties, but it would also be wrong of me to neglect your health and safety. Compromise is the only option." Were he to deliver the message at the cost of his own health, he would be alright with that—it was the risk he had taken by accepting this task. But to accomplish his mission at the expense of someone else...this would be wrong, and he wasn't sure how he could make her see that.

  • Farrah could see his rising annoyance and sighed, not saying another word. He didn't want to speed through the travels. It'd be a good idea for him to do so, but she wasn't going to waste time in arguing further with him.

  • Duilin sighed, extending a hand. "Here, let me help you up. The other elves would still like us to go over and eat and talk with them, I think, provided that we didn't already take too long talking over here." He offered a faint, unsteady smile, made more for both their sakes than out of any particular emotion. Mostly, he just felt nervous—here he was, among others of his own kind, with an important message to deliver and an injured girl in his care. Every passing moment seemed to make his situation more stressful.

  • Farrah breathed out, taking Duilin's hand and pulling herself up. She gave a wince, leaning against him, before they made their way to the fire. The elves had sat down, quietly waiting for them before passing some food around, including the human and young elf, "Where are you going, Master Duilin?" ONe asked after a few moments of silence.

  • "I am seeking the Dunedain," he said quietly, sitting down. His gaze was fixed respectfully on the ground—these were his elders, after all, and he would not be so bold as to be staring at them. "I bring a message from Ithilien...news from the Rangers there. What of you, though? Why do you travel this far north?"

  • The elf nodded, "Of course." He replied evenly, "We are traveling through to find the little folk; there is something we need to speak with one about."

  • A polite nod, Duilin trying desperately to not play with his hands—a nervous ha it he had picked up in his time among the humans. "May I be so bold as to ask what you wish to speak about, or with whom?" he ventured, not quite sure whether it was acceptable to be asking. Still, what else was there to talk about? Nothing, really—at least that he could think of.

  • The elf gave a faint smile, "It is a matter that is best not discussed around humans." He replied, gazing at Duilin, "But we are traveling to find a hobbit with the last name Gamgee."

  • For a moment, Duilin was confused and vaguely insulted. Were they insinuating that being raised among humans had made him less of an elf? But then he remembered Farrah, and nodded along once again. "Understandable," he murmured, fingers twisting nervously around a few strands of hair. "I suppose you realize, though, that the Ringbearer's companion may not still be alive, yes? That there might only be his family to speak to?" A little bold, perhaps, but he felt the need to bring it up.
