  • Two hundred years have passed since the dragon-slaying campaigns came to an end after drastically reducing the dragon population. Now, the remaining dragons lie hidden away in the deepest, darkest dungeons and caves on the planet. However, during the bloody hunts, there were a few that fled to a certain man whom many deemed a wizard. In order to ensure their survival, the "wizard" gave them human bodies by the power of God.

The man hid them away and helped them escape the hunts for years until they went their separate ways and joined the rest of the world. But though they were in human bodies, they were still dragons in blood, and that blood showed in their descendants. Some people began to appear with scales on their bodies or reptilian eyes or with the ability to breath fire. These people were cast out, persecuted, and deemed monsters and freaks.

But that was a mistake. These strange people had the lifespan of the dragons, and eventually their descendants became full dragons themselves. A few generations later, and their descendants gained the ability to shift fully between human bodies and dragons bodies and their elemental properties branched out greatly.

And now, while pure dragons are still seen and hunted, these people, once cast out and shamed, walk among the rest of humanity in secret, hiding their abilities as best they can.

But for some, that's easier said than done.

  • Name: Jalphaq

    Age: 167

    Race: Slime Dragon

    Sub-type: Shifter

Weapons: Prefers to utilize his immense strength, and his slime abilities.

Human appearance: A young man with pale white skin, and grey hair, his eyes are a dull green. His body appears frail. Has a small scar under his left eye, and a scar running down the inside of his fore arm.

Race info: A dying and nearly extinct race, the slime dragon thrives off of toxic and hazardous materials, and places suffering from plagues, or illnesses. Slime dragons can throw blobs of slime from their bodies, and either let it trap or melt their prey. Despite these unsanitary and bestial features, slime dragons are quite intelligent, being able to adapt to the situation at hand. Every time a slime dragon is born, a new disease is unleashed upon the world.

History: When Jalphaq was born, he created the Small Pox virus.

    Dragon form:

  • OOC: I guess I should explain the differences between the three types of dragons.

Pure Dragons have mastered their elemental properties and are stronger, faster, more powerful, and wiser than the others. Most of the remaining ones have lived through the Purge and are thousands of years old, though there are younger ones, too, who didn't witness the horrors of the Purge.

Hybrids are the offspring of the few dragons who became humans and their human spouses. They cannot change forms and gain dragon traits over time. Due to the presence of both dragon and human blood, they are often bipolar and all have trouble controlling their animal instinct. The two different bloods are always contesting.

Shifters are dragons that have the ability to change form from human to dragon at will. They are descendant of two generations of hybrid-human and hybrid-dragon blood mixing. They aren't as strong or fast as Hybrids or Pure Dragons but have full control of their minds and personalities.

  • OOC: All accepted. Thanks for joining, everyone! @Dragon~Girl Yes, a pure dragon is 100% dragon and cannot change forms.

IC: Rend pulled his hood further down to cover his face as he walked through the crowd of people at the marketplace. He hated hiding himself like this, which was why he lived deep in the forest, but there were some things that even he had to buy.

"I need an ax. A steel one, if you have it." He said gruffly to the man at one of the tool shops.

"Aye. I've got it. But what are ye payin' for it?" The man eyed Rend in his tattered cloak and long hood pulled over his head. Only Rend's mouth and nose were visible, though one could sometimes catch a glimpse at his bright green eyes when the light hit just right.

"Gold. And two fat hens." Rend replied simply. His arm extended from under his cloak and he dropped the two dead field hens on the long table in front of the man. Another second later and he dropped a small sack of coins.

"Let me see..." The man poked and prodded the chickens for a moment and felt the weight of the sack before heading into his tent and coming out with an ax in his hand. It had a simple wooden handle and a fine steel blade. "Finest blade this side of the mount'ns. The ore is mined in these very hills, you know." The man said proudly as Rend took the ax and gave it a few test swings with one hand.

"I'll take it." With that, Rend walked away, leaving the man to happily collect the sack and hens.

When Rend was out of sight of the village, he pulled his hood from his head and threw his cloak back, revealing the scales on his face and arms as well as his sharp talons. He turned off the road and headed straight into the woods but stopped when he reached the edge of the great forest.

Silently, he pulled the leather cover off the ax head and gripped the ax tightly as he tested the air. Something was different...

Quickly, but just as quietly, he ducked into the woods and leaped into the lowest branches of a sturdy oak.

  • Jalphaq stepped lightly as he traveled along the forest path, he could've sworn he heard something, but he took no heed. With each footstep, the grass underneath him died. He tightened the belt around his tunic a bit, and saw a village. He began to walk the path towards the village, a grim smile grew on his face. As he entered the market place, he dragged his hand over a man's shoulder, leaving a strange greyish-green marking on it. He dragged his hand on the surface of a table, in front of a vendor, the vendor was trading a fine axe for a valuable necklace, he placed his hands on the table, and unknowingly received the same strange marking. Jalphaq tapped a finger on a young girls shoulder, leaving the marking on her. He exited the village, and snapped his fingers, he could hear screams of panic crescendo from the village. Small glowing green bubbles shot up out of the village, and the village had gone silent. No one could know what happened, but Jalphaq had exterminated a village in a matter of moments. The strange bubbles flowed towards him, and sunk into his skin, he exhaled a green mist, it fell to the ground and withered all of the grass in the area. "That was a good meal... I wonder how the next village will fare?" he thought out loud.

  • IC:

Only a posture of a shadow seemed to flip in the air, spiraling into nothingness of the naked eye. The quickness of the shape was surprisingly scary, and anyone would mistake it for a lurking creature that was flicking it eyes around right now, hunting you down. But no soul would guess it right, the thing knew, because she was a dragon that was never seen by another living thing that had a pumping heart inside their chest. She was a beautiful dragon, you could say, with sleek and shiny black scales and shimmering blue orbs that were perhaps very noticeable, but she kept them to herself while being out of her cave that no one yet discovered. She had a long neck, and a strong, pointy snout. No horns lay upon her head, because you could call her quite a peaceful dragon. Her legs were long, with claws that were extremely sharp--sharper than any pencil tip could ever compete with. When she opened her rather large wings, not a scar was to see upon her beautiful body. Her tail was long as a tree, but then again, she was a large dragon. They had small spikes, and, at the tip of her tail, was a large spike--a weapon--that could be, indeed, a very good power-up if a fight broke out. But she never witnessed one, even though she practiced battle moves lots of times, just in case.

Going by the name of Melissa, the beautiful she-dragon felt a prescience that she didn't want to feel. Thinking she was spotted by the slightest glance of a curious orb, she narrowed her glimmering eyes and bounded off to her cave that was hidden below a thicket of bushes. She pushed it aside with much effort, and looked down on the boulder blocking her way. She used most of her strength in that moment as the boulder flipped aside, denting the walls a bit like it always did. She went tail-first down the hole that led to the cave, and pulled the rock as hard as she could back into place. At once, darkness overwhelmed her, and she turned around in the cramp space, and bolted down the tunnel. Soon, she felt space, and she was in her dim-lit cave.

  • Rend smelled the air again. It was one of the rare scents he couldn't recognize. And it was getting closer.

A foul odor filled his nose as he darted to his shack deeper in the forest. He threw open the door and ran to the wall in the back of the small home. His father's sword was mounted up on that wall as a reminder of what humans would do if they found out his secret.

Now, after more than 150 years, Rend took the blade from its mount and fastened the sheath about his waist. He also opened up the large trunk in his shed and took out his father's steel bracers and greaves. These he fastened to his forearms and shins before racing back to the edge of the forest.

The reek was stronger now, when he reached the woodline. He recognized the scent when he inhaled deeply: death. The odor in the air was the stench of death itself!

A low growl escaped his throat and Rend tightened his grip on his sword.

  • Jalphaq sighed, it was a lonely world for him, the only slime dragon he ever saw, other than himself, was his father. But he was only a hatchling at that point, and the image of his father was unclear. He knew there were other slime dragons out there, and wondered if they were as lonely as he was. He let out a sigh and headed through the woods...

Jalphaq was walking along the forest path, he froze and looked over at a deathcap, he swallowed lightly, it looked delicious. He walked over to it and drooled a bit, he took hold of the stem and took a bite out of the cap. His eyes dilated for a moment, it tasted amazing, he chomped down on the rest of the mushroom and picked the rest of the mushrooms nearby.

As he wandered along the forest path, he could've sworn he heard something huge move. He paid no attention to it and kept munching on his deathcaps. He wandered aimlessly around the area, picking the random mushrooms he came upon, and eating them like a child would pieces of candy.

  • Rend froze. The stench wasn't following the road anymore. Now the smell was stronger than ever, but it was coming from behind him.

He pulled his hood over his head and ran back into the woods, his keen eyes ever scanning his surroundings.

There. A patch of death caps had been uprooted and the mushrooms taken. It had been there when he had passed by only a minute or so ago. Rend tested the air again. Oh yeah. Whatever was making that odor was close. Real close.

Movement! A stick snapped only a few yards away. Some leaves crunched under a heavy foot a little farther in the same direction.

I have you now! Rend thought viciously. He jumped into the nearest tree and leaped from branch to branch, tree to tree as he gained ground on the invader.

Then he saw it. Walking casually in the forest and munching on death caps was a pale thin human. Where he stepped, the grass withered, the trunks of the trees he touched turned gray and rotten in a matter of moments.

"Halt!" Rend shouted, dropping from the trees and landing in front of the human. Fast a lightning, he drew his sword and took up a defensive stance, ready to spring in any direction or to strike a fatal blow to this foolish human.

Everyone knew that these woods were home to a number of dragons, or at least that's what everyone thought. No human entered these woods and got out alive. So why was this fool here?

  • Jalphaq jumped a bit when he heard the warrior come up behind him, he turned around to see a human with his sword drawn. Jalphaq was unsure how to react, so he returned to picking the mushrooms, happily running towards any deathcap that entered his sight. Eventually he knew he had to say something to the warrior, "Er, hello there." he said awkwardly, he wasn't used to anyone interrupting him during the harvesting of his meals.

  • Rend hesitated for a moment. That wasn't how people normally reacted when he dropped in front of them and pointed at sword at them.

"Who are you and why are you here?" Rend demanded once he gained his wits back. Why was this human eating what were obviously death caps? Didn't he know why they were called death caps?

  • Jalphaq responded nervously, "I-- uh... Well, I was hungry and stuff, so i decided to go into the forest and pick some wild mushrooms..." He was taken aback at the human, he thought to himself "Is this how a conversation is supposed to go?", he'd never had any real social interaction with a human, excluding the moments he spent with screaming people begging for mercy, and the various warriors yelling out their titles and the name of their house, and proceeding to try and kill him.

  • IC:

The cave was rather large for a dragon her size. Of course, she had quite a big form for a she-dragon, but the cave was also many times bigger than her. Torches lit up the dim-lit cave a bit, but not much. Though she was grateful for the warmth and protection the cave gave her, no one got to share it with her; perhaps she was just misunderstanding herself, but at that moment, she knew with all her heart and life that no creature would find the spot she called home. Glancing around, she heard nothing but silence in her flat sensors except for the tiniest echo of another dragon roaring its sounds. Flicking her orbs slightly, she spotted the pile of food she had. Being a pure dragon meant she had to steal, hunt, or who knows what else to get her belly filled. She saw the lack of meat in the sharp, sheer edge of the cavern. Shaking herself thoroughly, her belly rumbled a tad bit and she glanced back at the entrance; her feet were killing her, and her wings felt numb. The beautiful black she-dragon lifted her broad, strong head and made a decision: She would rest for a little while, and then go do her job of finding something that would take up the space of her empty belly.

  • "You know those are death caps, right?" Rend asked, still confounded by the human's casual eating of the deadly fungus. He shook his head. If this human wanted to kill himself like this, who was he to get in his way?

His ears twitched at the sound of another creature nearby. He eyed his surroundings warily but kept his focus on this bizarre human.

"Haven't you heard? There are monsters in these woods. Some even claim to have seen dragons lurking about. No human who enters ever leaves." Rend hissed. He didn't like this creature and he wanted to investigate the other noises around him.

He snarled when the sounds suddenly rushed away, and the source along with them. He stood there with his sword. The human seemed completely unfazed by what he had just said. Now he was really skeptical.

"Who are you?" He demanded, "What are you?"
