Dawnfeather smells cats, but but can't see them. Panic flares. If I can't see them I can't fight them!! she thinks frantically. Meanwhile the original group is still coming at her. A calm thought comes to mind. With no time to dwell on it, she acts on impulse leaping onto the nearest tree branch. It's no longer safe to fight, she's so outnumbered... The only option left is to flee. She leaps onto a branch in the next tree, each leap bringing her (unknowingly) closer to Shalefall and his apprentice.

"She's coming at us! Why aren't you moving Shalefall?!" His apprentice whispered in a panic as she tried to push the Tom aside. He could only fall limp as if he was bored again and in a childish voice he whined. "I'm too lazy!" He was moving his paws up and down like a kit not wanting to go to sleep, before letting them dangle on the branch which efficiently supported his weight.
In exasperation, his apprentice just sighed as she mimicked him, knowing he won't run off anyway and just stayed with him as a precaution because the apprentice had doubts that the she-cat wasn't hostile. Shalefall only looked amused without having fear or shock on his red eyes.
-
As Dawnfeather leaps into the tree where shalefall and the apprentice sit, she notices his white fur among the brown branches. She leaps on to the branch above them. Fury courses through her. I knew it was planned! she thinks. "YOU! What did I ever do to you and the kit army?!" She hisses. Without really planning to, she leaps towards him, claws outstretched aiming to knock them both out of the tree.
-
"As if something like that can har—"
Before the she-cat could apprentice, she is grabbed by Shalefall who swiftly dodges with ease and landing back on the branch in the same position as they were while grabbing unto the pelt of the she-cat as well before she fell off the tree when she had leaped over and brought her up, once again smirking.
"Milady? Whatever do you mean? You are gravely mistake, they're apprentices, not kits."
Shalefall jested, with a gleam of amusement present in his red orbs while his apprentice only nodded in agreement, unsure how to reply back to her as well. The white Tom raised his chin, an arrogant smirk played on his muzzle while staring her down.
-
An angry hiss answers him. Dawnfeather leaps back our of his grip. I can't believe I let him save me AGAIN! she fumes. "Who cares what they are? Doesn't make them any less stupid and persistent, and stop changing the subject! You did this, didn't you?" Her fur rises along her spine. She moves as if to attack Shalefall, but at the last second, spins and goes to smack the apprentice, claws sheethed. Stupid follower.
-
"Doesn't make them any less stupid an persistent…"
The exact moment she mewed that, and decided to go after his appretice, his whole demeanor changed and then emerged the merciless and cold-blooded killer. As swift as he possibly could, he dashed for his apprentice, and managed to save her, thanks to his apprentice's own instincts to dodge. He didn't teach her nothing, it hats for certain.
Ferocity had overtaken him as he dashed and gave her a light push off of the branch. "Stay away, my dear apprentices! We'll call it off for now, okay?" Even of they mewed in dissapointment, they still followed, having held great respect for the Tom who only continued to smile at them. Once they had gone, his previous apathetic nature emerged as he glared down at Dawnfeather, signaling for the apprentice to call for someone to detain her afterwards.
"You shouldn't look for fights then. If you cannot take a group of kits—" Without care, he lazily rested himself in the branch, but still held hatred within him.
-
Finally, he's stopped the attack. Dawnfeather feels his insult burning with in her. Cant take a group of kits?? Her pride is roaring, trying to make her do something stupid. A force stronger then pride keeps her from running over and killing some of the young cats. She doesn't hurt kits, or young apprentices. Before she left her clan she had an abusive mentor. Though she has tried to hide it, she has a kind side. In her eyes, it's a weakness. She has pushed it back, but it refuses to completly vanash. She remembers shalefall is still there. "Well? Why did you set them on me? I'm out of your ridiculous boundaries!" She hisses.
-
"Am I required to answer the question of a lower being?"
Shalefall snorted as he glared at the she-cat from above, once again, carrying the pride of a lion within him, not ever lettig himself or his clanmates looked down upon. He found it offensive that a mere she-cat would even dare to throw threats of insults ignorantly, but then again, Ignorance is Bliss.
Though his anger needed to be blown out, he still felt hatred for the insult before finally regaining his senses, looking back at the she-cat with a blank and unreadable expression. "Since I feel indebted to, however, I will care to answer the question of the lower being. It was meant only as a training exercise, but I must assume you failed to notice that they did not have a killing aura. Now did you?"
-
He is so arrogant! she thinks. She leaps up onto the branch above him. His pride doesn't need any help to grow. lesser being! She hisses. "Does it really matter whether or not they were trying to kill me? The facts are, I was minding my own business, hunting out of your freakin' clan lands! So what in starclan gave you the grand idea to go after me?"
-
At this point, Shalefall was simply watching the little birds that were flying about, tweeting happily in ignorance, despite the air of tension around the two cats. Once she finished, he snapped back to his senses, genuinely haven't heard her whol exclamation, though he did choose not to try and listen, but he did understand most of the details.
"I apologize. I simply wasn't listening, but I did understand what you're trying to say. "Slowly, he started his sentence, as if explaining to a younger kit, except he kept the hostility clear in his blood red eyes that have caused so much discord and deaths, and have seen so much innocent blood spilled. "It does matter whether they're trying to kill you or not, however. It shows that they were not meaning to harm you. Shall I further simplify my words to you?"
-
He isn't even listening... she realizes. His reply brings her claws out in frustration. Her tail twitches from side to side. "Do you honestly believe that killing is the only form of harm that could come to a cat?" She hisses. Shalefall's hostile red eyes only rile her up more. Now she's standing on the thin branch and her claws are leaving deep marks in the wood.
-
Shalefall couldn't help but laugh at the she-cat and stifled his laughter as part of his polite manners.
"What? Are my apprentices going to go call you ugly and stupid? You would be hurt from some little kits?" He mewed sardonically, putting emphasis on kits as to remind her of her insult awhile ago. He wasn't about to let that go so easily. No on insults his clan and gets away with such doings. It's like signing a waiver!
-
Dawnfeather stares at him, dumbfounded. Thoughts swirl inside like leaves in a hurricane. One pops to the surface and she says it. "Wait, are you still hung up on that whole kits thing?" She asks shocked. She stops dead. One look into his red eyes tells her the answer.
Now it's her turn to laugh. Dawnfeather, however, has nothing polite in her nature. She laughs out loud, nearly falling out of the tree. The idea that one casual insulting remark could be so hurtful is completly foreign and ridiculous. "Wow! Okay well I'm sorry for calling your apprentices kits, I was ticked off. Are we good now?" She asks.
-
That wasn't her only offense. The very fact that she had insulted his clan and trespassed was enough of a reason for any clanner to look at any offender with hostility. How dare she even speak to him with such a tone? Honestly, his blood boiled in anger and rage as he continued to stare at her, disgust filling him as he even talked to her, thinking her as a waste of his precious time when he could've been efficiently training his apprentices if she wasn't such a baby about everything. She wined about that, though she said that repay him her debt. He obviously refused when she offered to catch fish for him, because why in StarClan would he need such petty things?
He only scoffed at her comment, completely unaffected. "The worthless she-cat attempts at humor and an insincere apology. How laughable." With venom laced with every word he spoke, he went back to close his eyes, knowing well and confident enough in his skills that he could easily defeat her even with his eyes closed.
-
So now he's being sexist... *sighs* Dawnfeather drops back down. "Okay, first of all I wasn't trying to amuse you. And second, just because you consider my words to be a failed attempt at comedy there is no need for generalizations about all shecats."
She drops down onto the branch lying down again. What a waste of time. If I could just be certain that he won't attack me again, we could both go back to our lives!
-
"I'm not generalizing all she-cats in this category. Just you." He mewed, swishing his tail back and forth, and somehow, was preparing to take a nap. Well, it appeared to look just as that, as he nested his head between his paws, purring as he opened his eyes and watched the birds above.
Sorry.
-
"Sure you weren't." She mews. Dawnfeather glances down at the albino Tom. Is he seriously about to fall asleep?! she wonders. After a second she follows his gaze and sees the birds. He's... admiring prey. How pointless. Dawnfeather has only one use for such creatures, food. "Why are you bothering to watch them? It serves no purpose." She asks.
-
"Here's the same question, simply rephrased."
He cleared his throat, and was relieved that she wasn't about to go after his apprentices. Even if he was much stronger and skilled than she was, that didn't stop his admiration of her strength in comparison to the she-cats, though it was natural, since most of them had already turned to being queens.
"Why am I bothering to listen to you? It serves no purpose." With that, his retort was done, and he waited for her answer, having calmed down his murderous side himself.
-
"So, what I'm hearing is you are avoiding my question." She says.
She watches Shalefall carefully. He obviously cares deeply for young cats, and he has quite the skills, but that's where the good qualities end. He's arrogant, stubborn, and doesn't answer my questions directly. frustration bubbles up, but a question beats it to the surface of her mind. If he thinks that talking to me is pointless, and I can't stand him, why are we both still here?
-
"If you have ceased your yapping, would you so kindly leave?"
He mewed, putting pressure as he was eager for her to stop trespassing on the clan's territory. It angered him just a bit and that she was blatantly asking him questions as if she was the rightful owner of the lands! Nevertheless, he maintained his composure, just as he always had. Rushing had always invited trouble.
