    Chapter 1
    Shimmerpaw curled up in her nest, shivering. Her sister Sootpaw was cuddling up with her, but no matter how hard they tried, it was no use. The two cats lay awake listening to the wind blowing. The moonlight shined in through the entrance to the den, giving the apprentice den a strange feeling. Shimmerpaw watched the other three apprentices lying on top of each other to keep warm. Leafbare will be here soon, Shimmerpaw thought.


    Ashpaw, the only tom, had been laying on top of Pinepaw and Eclipsepaw, and rolled off which woke up the rest of the apprentices. Eclipsepaw groaned,"Ashpaw, can't you let us sleep for once?" She got up and walked over to where Shimmerpaw and Sootpaw were. She closed her eyes and tried to get some sleep. Soon they were all asleep, huddled together.

    "Wake up, wake up, wake up!"Shimmerpaw insisted as she danced around her sister,"Fallenseeker said that me, you, Wildbreeze, and Oakwing are going on a partol!"


    "Say what now? We're going on a patrol? Together?"demanded Sootpaw bolting awake. She shook out her light gray fur and stretched her legs. "Let's go! This is our first patrol!"



    The two sisters raced out of the apprentice den and saw their mentors standing there looking around. "We're here! We're ready to go on patrol!" exclaimed Shimmerpaw.



    "Okay, okay, calm down," joked Wildbreeze,"Now come on the last patrol just got back." The tabby headed towards the entrance of the camp, just as Icestep and Wolfshadow race into the camp.



    "NightClan......hiding....border.....attack!"Wolfshadow gasped between breaths. Everyone in camp cam to see the two warriors. When Wolfshadow finally caught his breath he said,"NightClan warriors were hiding on our side of the border, they tried to attack us. You need some warriors to go fight them off."



    "Birchclaw, Stoatear, Willowblaze, and Wolfshadow will go,"said Fallenseeker,"Birchclaw, take your apprentice."


    The warriors nodded, and Eclipsepaw walked over to her mentor, her green eyes full of terror."Why does she get to go?"complained Ashpaw.


    "Eclipsepaw is older than you, she's had more training than you, Ashpaw,"explained his mentor Fallenseeker.


    "But, she's only half a moon older than me!" argued Ashpaw


    "She had twice as much training as you."


    "That's not fair!"


    "It's very fair, now stop arguing, or you won't go on any patrols for a moon!"


    "Ugh fine."


    The warriors had already left. Shimmerpaw sighed and guessed that she wouldn't be going on a patrol. She had just started over to Pinepaw when a loud yowl spit the air. Before she knew what was happening, something slammed into her and knocked her to the ground. She stared into menacing yellow eyes, a gray apprentice had her pinned down.


    "What do we have here? A pretty kitty that can't defend herself against the big scary NightClan cats, "teased the cat, "And what might your name be? Fluffypaw?"


    Something ran by and slammed into Shimmerpaw's head and she slipped into darkness.

    Shimmerpaw woke up and found herself somewhere, that defiantly wasn't her camp. A black cat sat in the corner, it was a full grown cat so it couldn't have been Eclipsepaw. Shimmerpaw looked around and gasped, the cat that had attacked her was next to her covered in scratches.


    The black cat turned around and spotted Shimmerpaw,"Ahh she's woken up. I wondered why they would bring a Lakeclan cat here, but I know now. What might your name be?"


    "Shimmerpaw. Who are you? And where am I? Why am I here?"Shimmerpaw had so many questions.


    "Ah. Shimmerpaw. I'm Pebbleshadow, the medicine cat. You're at the Nightclan camp. You might not want to know why you're here,"said the cat.


    Shimmerpaw shivered,"Wait, who's that?"she said spotting a gray figure laying in the corner.


    "I was hoping you'd know,"said Pebbleshadow walking over to the figure. Shimmerpaw walked over and only then noticed there were two cats.


    "Ashpaw. Sootpaw."
