"Wh-wh-wh-what?" stammered Silver weakly, staring up at her hesitantly with very wide golden eyes.

"I said-- are you okay?" Her green eyes were soft with concern. "You aren't hurt, are you?"
-
Silver's startlement faded slightly and he shook his head softly, looking away as he murmured, "I'm fine."
-
"Good." Her fingers suddenly enclosed on his ear and yanked it down so that it reached right beside her mouth as she promptly yelled, "Then what were you thinking, knucklehead?!?"
-
Silver shrieked despite the fact that he had basically been expecting something like that to happen. His ear rang violently as he stammere, very squeakily and too loudly over the ringing, "S-s-something ch-changed in the past, I-I had to make sure y-you two didn't not end up together--!"
-
"That's what your father's job is for, for crying out loud!! Do you have any idea what you could have done? What could have happened to you?! Silver, me and your dad were terrified for you!" Her grip on his ear remained tight, although her voice lowered considerably. "What possessed you to try and clean it up yourself??"
-
Silver's other ear flattened. "I-I thought it was an emergency," he stammered weakly. "I-If I didn't go right away when I got the alert, I was worried everything would change.."
-
"You could have at least contacted Shadow to let him know what you were doing! You just disappeared, Silver! Do you have any idea how scared we were??" Her voice rose again and cracked, but she kept going. "We had no idea where you'd gone, when you'd gone, you sent your father on a wild goose chase for his own son, and you broke the rules along with all of that! What if something happened?? We'd have no idea where to find you, we wouldn't have been able to help! I could have lost you!!" Tears were now rolling down his mother's face, and her grip on his ear weakened, her trembling fingers unable to hold it that tightly for long.
-
Silver was silent, looking down with tears in his own eyes.
Shadow was silent, trying to keep Maria from potentially getting upset.
-
Maria did whimper a little at seeing her mother upset, but being reunited with her father mostly distracted her from the events taking place around her.
Amy's breath suddered as she took it in slowly, trying to calm herself, and she released his ear. "Go to your room," she said weakly, "Until I can think of a suitable punishment for you."
-
Silver merely nodded and slipped away, murmuring a quiet apology to his mother.
Shadow arched his eye ridges at Amy while also playing with Maria.
-
Amy wiped her eyes with an arm and sniffed, sitting back down on the couch beside Shadow.
Maria gurgled happily.
-
Shadow's eyes were very worried as he watched her. He quietly leaned his head against her shoulder and looked up at her.
-
She sighed and folded her arms, staring straight ahead in thought.
-
"I'm sorry, Amy," Shadow whispered softly beside her with a sigh.
-
"Hm?" She glanced down at him tiredly. "For what, Shadow?"
-
"Him," he muttered softly, dragging a hand down his face. "I should've been able to stop this somehow.."
-
"No, you didn't know," she murmured weakly, leaning her head on top of his. "None of us did..."
-
"I-I should have gotten some sort of alert too--" he protested in frustration.
-
"Again, not your fault. It was an error something else made."
