The cougar followed the scene from his own spot before finally deciding to act as well. Using his powerful paws, he jumped in the middle of the mess... landing on top of two poor rabbits whom he quickly killed. They had been unlucky and Flare had been very lucky, but that didn't matter. A catch was a catch.
-
She attempted to pounce on another rabbit but missed, letting out a growl as she did so. "They're so fast," she said with a small chuckle, feeling happier for once.
-
"We used to catch them all days, but we're not used to it anymore I guess. I was just lucky to end upon those two" he replied, missing one as well. By now, most rabbits had fled and he guessed the result was alright. "But at least we had a few."
-
"Yeah. A few is better than none. Besides, we can still do some more hunting. If you're up for it."
-
"Of course I am" he purred as he dug a quick hole to hide the rabbits, his large paws going through the ground with ease. Being in a puma body had its advantages. As he finished the hole, he dropped his two captures before gesturing Wingspan to do the same so they could continue.
-
"Perhaps we can check for foxes, too... I caught the scent of one the other day, and that's never a good sign. If we find any more scent, we ought to bring it up with Lilystar, so that we can do something about it."
-
He simply nodded, not having a reason to talk much really. He flicked his tail, signaling she could lead the way, while unsheathing his claws at the same time. He wasn't planning on letting a fox run around freely, even though there were quite a lot of animals in camp who could easily overpower one. Still, there were still young animals.
-
"So... did you sleep well?" she asked him as they walked, looking him in the eye before she went ahead a little, having quickened her pace. She didn't like to walk slow too much anymore.
-
"Quite" he replied before flicking an ear... Deciding it was nothing, he focused back on the she cat. "What about you?" he asked, tilting his head slightly as he walked, sniffing the air at the same time.
-
"I slept okay. I don't sleep greatly anymore, after... you know... but yeah. As best as I could."
-
No, he didn't know the event that had made it harder for her to sleep, but he decided not to ask any further. He didn't want her to continue talking about something that obviously didn't make her happy. "It'll get better eventually." he meowed, guessing that was something he could say in whatever situation.
-
"Yeah... I just miss him, that's all. I guess like you miss Bunnytail."
-
Oh. So that was what she was talking about. Yeah, he did miss her a lot. A lot more than he would ever confess. "I understand, but you'll have to live on and prove to him that you're still the same old Wingspan. Sure, you'll change, but that doesn't mean you have to stop living."
-
"Y-you're right..."
-
He offered her a faint smile before padding past her, his tail flicking once in a while. There was little else he could tell her, so he decided silence was the best thing right now. And so, he continued walking, trying to find out where they could find something else to eat.
-
"I'm a b-bit hungry... are you?"
-
"Not really, no" he replied as he briefly stopped walking. "We could eat the next catch, though. We aren't on an official patrol after all" he meowed with a faint smile. He wondered if the hunger was the reason of the slight stutter or if something else was going on, but he'd find out soon enough. It wouldn't last that long to catch something... he hoped.
-
"Yeah. Alright, that's a plan. It'll be sunhigh by then, most likely, so it's definitely a good idea. I like it. We probably won't get much else, since it's leaf-bare, but might be able to find a mouse or two. There isn't too much of a lack of them."
-
He nodded and turned in the right direction before flicking his tail. "A mouse sounds good enough for now and then we can get the rabbits for the queens and elders" he meowed with a nod. They were the past and the future of the clan, and thus important for the clan really. "Let's go then" he added before walking away with a faint smile. He liked hunting after all, not to mention the company. "Been a long time since we ate together."
