• my mom just told me that most people find saying "no problem" instead of "you're welcome" to be rude/sound assholish
apparently it connotes dismissal of the other person and, like, denies their thanks

i legitimately had no idea of this, i thought it was just a synonym of "you're welcome" with the benefit of not sounding as formal

oh god i've been saying it for 2+ years both as a wcrpg geneticist and irl

i apologize to anyone i may have unwittingly offended.

(mods if this is in the wrong board please move it, i just put it the first place i could think of)

like most of my social skills come from over here so I learned from example and ,most people around me say no problem or something

  • I do the exact opposite. I only say you're welcome when the task was annoying, and/or I didn't want to do it.

I know, this is what I've been doing since forever. And to find out now that people have probably been interpreting me backwards...

  • I think I only ever say no problem to those that don't find it rude and/or understand the slang definition behind it.

Like, I have said no problem to my friends and sometimes my parents, but never would I say it to my grandparents or people I don't know very well. I just kind of assumed they would take that offensively, so I always tried to avoid using it with those specific groups.

I always say "No prob", but no one seemed to take it rudely.
    i'll continue saying it, though
