  • Alongside the apprentice strode the broad-shouldered, grey tom Fogmask who glanced about the marshy Shadowclan terrain and sought for prey scents patiently. He listened thoroughly to each and every sound, to the crunching of both cats' pawsteps to the quiet buzzing of the bugs but most of all, the Shadowclan warrior kept alert for scent or trace of Thunderclan. He felt a burning hatred for the clan of mouse-brained kittypets for as long as he remembered.Losing their hold on them just worsened his hate, especially now that Thunderclan had decided to get back at them by frequently tresspasing, "Be ready to attack any tresspassers Berrypaw, they'll need a good shake to set their moss-filled minds right."He meowed gruffly as he walked on.

  • Walking along, soon Berrypaw picks up a strange scent. He is a new apprentice, so Berrypaw doesn't know every scent in the forest. Maybe the experienced warrior will know what it is, Berrypaw thought.

  • It was moments until Fogmask, who was previously dwelling in detest for a certain clan and becoming very oblivious as a result, sensed Berrypaw's sudden start. Has he scented something? To satisfy his curiousity, the warrior slowed his pace and opened his jaws as to drink in the air.He tasted on his tongue the stale smell of Thunderclan near the border. Instantly he stopped and brought his gaze upon the felony scene and narrowed his eyes, "They've been at it again." He growled lowly, "But the trail is about a week old." The grey tom remained silent and in thought briefly before he started again, "There is trace of rat.See if you can follow it, Berrypaw." Although he was not the young cat's mentor, Fogmask knew it would be all for the good for the new apprentice's training. Also he was curious to see how well he would do.
