And even if she did accept, the only one that knew his secret was Cain - what would happen if she found or, when he told her? Would she leave him? And all of that was it she accepted in the first place. Honestly, Edward wasn't sure if he could bring himself to do it; too many negative ideas were swimming around in his head, and he had mentally and emotionally put up some walls, walls that were ready to break down if she said yes, but walls that were there to stay for a while if he was met with rejection.
