When Kioko was born, "his" mother was very disappointed. All her life she had been dreaming of having a boy as her first child. It was like a tradition in her family: most of the time, the first born was a boy. In this case, she had a reason to be disappointed. Although it may not look like it now, Kioko is really a girl. She was born with the same red hair and purple eyes, a pretty, little girl. As she grew up though, her father was the one mainly giving her all the attention. Her mother's parents were also somewhat angry at the fact that Kioko was a girl. But the main reason behind the first born being a boy was kind of like a gene. It just happened. Plus, boys were the ones who were able to carry on the family's last name, which made a boy the preferred gender. Her mother knew that since she had a girl, the family name would most likely not be extended because Kioko was a girl. So, not wanting to accept that Kioko was a girl, she lost it. She actually did everything she could to make her daughter look, act, and seem like a boy. She made sure Kioko wore boys clothes, acted kind of like a boy would, and even made her like things she most likely wouldn't have liked before. As well as those things, her mother even took a knife and cut off most of Kioko's long, red hair, leaving her to look like a boy. Any time Kioko's hair would get long, her mother would cut it off. Knowing her mother felt ashamed of her, Kioko started running away from home all the time, which was what caused her to learn her powers. She spent so much time with nature that her Kitsune side emerged. Also, because she knew the way her mom felt about her, she was able to begin sensing the emotions of other people. As she grew up, she started to be able to control her powers, but only the emotion sensing. As for turning to a Kitsune and controlling fire, that needed some work. She would change into her other form unexpectedly and accidentally catch places and forests on fire. When people learned of her powers and how she was causing towns and people to burn, she was considered a criminal. Of course, her mother didn't really care. She actually did everything she could to get rid of Kioko ever being her child. She tried to get rid of records, pictures, telling people to forget her, and trying to have another kid. At some point, Kioko was caught and sent here.
