he looked at him with sympathy "im so sorry bud..." he said.

He purred softly before nuzzled him and licking his face.
-
he smiled slightly and wiped the dragon slobber off his face.
-
Merida watched slightly, biting lip before looking at the dragon with curiosity, "I um.... I really am sorry"
-
"Its gonna take a lot more than just saying sorry..." Hiccup murmured, looking away.
-
She sighed and slowly walked over, earning a slight growl from Toothless before he gently curled up. "I am sorry..." she said quietly.
-
he looked up at her "did you even bother to think about how they feel?" he asked.
-
She sighed and sat down slightly, "No... I just thought they were just like any other animal, really. I didn't know they could think for themselves and make intelligent decisions like you and I can" she told him.
-
"and neither did I up until two weeks ago. I could have killed him... but..." he muttered, looking away.
-
"B-but what?' she asked, curiosity in her eyes.
-
"i couldnt kill him because he looked just as frightened as I was... I looked at him... and I saw myself..." he said, looking back at her.
-
She looked up at him with surprise and shock, blinking several times. "wow..." she breathed out.
-
"and ever since that moment, everything changed..." he said, scratching under Toothless's chin.
-
She sighed and slowly sat beside him, "I'm sorry I didn't see that before..." She told him, a frown on her face.
-
"but... the thing is... Vikings and Dragons are mortal enemies... if toothless and I are caught, he could be killed... and I might as well be banished..." he said, his head low.
-
She frowned and looked up at him with sympathy. "That's.... A problem"
-
"why do you think i've kept it hidden?" he asked.
-
She bit her lip, shaking her head. "That's what I'd like to know. How did you?" she asked.
-
"what do you mean?" he asked.
-
"How'd you hide him from everyone?" She asked, tipping her head to the side.
