Duarte sat just starring out into the day for a while longer day dreaming, but then after a while with a sigh he picked himself up and returned inside. Hecate breakfast while he was downstairs then went up to his room to change. Today he would be able to test out his wing. That idea brightened his mood.

Aria's father slips outside and sits down beside her, "What are you thinking about?" He asks her. She looks over at him, "Someone," She says quietly. He nods,
"Tell me about this someone," he says slowly. Aria nods and starts to talk about Duarte, and how she couldn't pin him down on anything, just when she thought she had him figured out, something would change. -
Duarte went to his desk and picked up the wing. He smiled. It looked very impressive. He had definitely improved since his last wing. This wing was also much lighter. That was going to help a lot. Now he just had to connect it that was a part he didn't look forward to.
-
When Aria is done spilling her guts, she looks at her step-dad and he smiles at her. She puts her head on his shoulder and sighs. He pats her shoulder, "Aria, he probably feels the same way that you do, so just go for it. See if he wants to study together or something like that, you will figure it out," He says. She nods, "Okay, I think I will do that," she says quietly, "thank you," she says to him. They stand and go back into the house where Aria's friend is sitting at the counter waiting on her.
-
Duarte did a quick check on the wing to see if the wires were all in the correct places for connecting it to his own nerves. It was a painful process the connecting, but it ended up being worth it. Flying was his way to just be free and escape his life for a little while.
-
Aria smiles at her friend and suggests making some breakfast. They make cinnamon rolls for the household, filling the home with sweet, warm scents. Once they eat, Aria and her friend go back up to her room and Aria busts, coming clean to her best friend about Duarte, wanting to know what she would have to say, as Aria knows that she can trust her with anything.
-
Duarte takes a deep breath. Well here it goes. He better get it done with before his family wakes up. He took off his shirt then went to stand before his mirror. Twisting his head a bit he could see his scars clearly and his stump of a wing. That's where he would connect the new one. He took his mechanical wing and lined it up. He pressed it tight to the stump the turned the crank on the metal wing snapping it and the nerves in place. He gritted his teeth against the shocking pain.
-
Aria knows that her friend is about to burst from embarrassed laughter, so she lets her burst with a simple eye roll, letting it go. When she is able to get a grip on herself, she realizes how dead serious Aria is about him. She finally nods, giving her approval, because he seems like a nice guy who is simply misunderstood, much like many other people who deserve a chance.
-
Duarte stood still a while grimacing in the pain, but it finally began to ebb. He rubbed his sore back releasing the tension then decided to test it out see if it worked. Spreading his wings he saw it moved nicely with smooth easy motions. Looked like a success! But the real test came later when he took out flying.
-
Aria then notices that after talking about Duarte, her friend seemed to be itching to tell her something. "Oh, just tell me already, your killing me over here," Aria says with a smile. Her friend sighs heavily, going into how she has a gigantic crush on who else but the quarterback, Jason. Aria shakes her head in disproval, "Raelynn, you know what I think about him, he is nothing but trouble." She nods,
"I know, but he is trouble dipped in perfect." Aria shakes her head,
"Stay away from him, he is no good," she advises. -
Duarte headed back downstairs pulling a sweatshirt on. He would be leaving now. He would be able to spent almost the whole day out there. He called to his parents. "I'm going for well a while!" Then he went to the garage after grabbing the keys. He hopped into the car and started it up.
-
Raelynn decides that she had best go home finally. Aria and her family say goodbye and watch as she backs out of the driveway. Aria is struck with what seems like a good idea. Duarte talked about the edge of town and how he goes there when he wants to get away. She hasn't been there in a long time. She gets dressed, her hair still wavy from the night before. She grabs her keys and drives towards the edges of town.
-
Duarte drove out of the garage and headed to his field. No one else was ever there so he considered it his own. He arrived in good time and parked in his normal spot a bit of a ways off the road. He hopped out of the car full of excitement. He couldn't wait to test the wing out. He practically ran to the grove of trees.
-
She finally gets there and is instantly mesmerized by the beauty. She slowly gets out of her car and looks around her. She opens her arms and spins in the open air, understanding what Duarte meant. It was so quiet, but not the eerie kind of quiet, instead it was the soft kind of quiet, that spoke to people who would listen.
-
Duarte whipped off his sweatshirt and flung it on the ground. He stretched out his wings. Also stretched his arms above his head. "Time to do this!" He said with a grin of excitement. He took a deep breath then with a slight running head start leapt off the ground.
-
Aria sighs softly, walking through the empty field, feeling as if she is the only one around for miles and miles. She finds the top of a hill and sits on the ground, running the tallish, wispy grass through her fingers. She lets the sunlight beam against her fair, freckled skin.
-
Duarte felt so free. The wing matched the balance perfectly. He felt a not off though only because he was use to the heavier one and kept using tactics that he needed for the greater weight. It would take a bit of time but this would be so easy. He grinned and let out a jubilant shout.
-
Aria hears a shout and looks around, seeing something above the trees. She leans forward a bit and realizes, "That isn't a something, it is a someone!" She gasps, she lifts a hand to her mouth in shock. She stands quickly, unsure of what to do.
-
Duarte landed on the ground evenly and laughing practically fell backward sitting on the ground. Well that seriously cheered him up. He felt like a bird. Haha. If anyone had seen him which he was positive no one had he prop ably would have looked like a bird. No one even came along that road which made this a perfect spot.
-
Aria tried to rationalize with herself, "People cant fly, that is completely and utterly ridiculous. People don't have wings, which is why they cant fly... Right? I don't think I know anyone who has wings... Oh Lord, I have officially gone crazy," She says to herself. She starts walking towards her car, her hand still over her mouth.
