  • Waterkit was a lonely kit. He never knew how to greet others. All he does was run off. But, he really wanted some friends. He would always sit down, then think for a moment of how to say "Hi" to others. But sometimes, that wouldn't help.

  • Ashpaw, as she was passing the nursery on her way to the apprentices den, glanced over with her good eye and noticed a kit sitting all alone. She hesitated for a moment before entering the nursery. "Hello there," she mewed kindly to the young cat as she looked down at him. "What's your name?"

  • Waterkit looked up, seeing an apprentice looking at him. He didn't know or how to greet. "I-I'm W-Waterkit.." He said weakly and nervously at the same time. "W-What's your name?" He asked the apprentice, as his ears started to lower down.

  • The grey spotted tabby gave a friendly smile. She liked the shy kits, they reminded her of herself. "I'm Ashpaw," she answered, sitting down in front of Waterkit and wrapping her tail around her paws. "How are you today?" She figured she should start the conversation, it was unlikely that he would. And she was, after all, the one who had initiated it.

  • Waterkit looked up at Ashpaw. "I-I'm good. T-Thank you for asking." He mewed, nervously. This was his first time making a conversation. "H-How are you?" He kept on stammering.

  • "Oh, that's good to hear," Ashpaw mewed warmly. "I'm doing well, thank you for asking." She continued to smile down at the kit, her tail tip twitching in slight amusement at his stuttering.

  • Waterkit looked around the den. "S-So, what do you want to do today?" He asked the apprentice, looking down his his paws, then at his whiskers.

  • Ashpaw shrugged. "Oh, I don't know. Do you want to go for a walk?" She suggested, remembering how exciting leaving the nursery was as a kit.

  • That was a hard question to answer. One paw, he would like to walk. On the other paw, he thought he would get lost. But, since there;s an apprentice, he wouldn't have to worry. "S-Sure." He replied, with another stammer.

  • "Okay!" Ashpaw purred happily. "Let's go!" She got to her paws and padded out of the nursery. Glancing around, she wondered where to take him first? "Do you want to stay in camp, or do you want to venture a ways out of it?" She asked, figuring it was better if Waterkit was the one to make the decision. She didn't want to take him out of the camp if he was uncomfortable with it.

  • Those two choices were kind of hard for Waterkit to make. "Um... v-venture a ways out of it? But not far away f-from camp." He finally mewed.

  • "Sure thing!" She mewed cheerfully. It had been a while since she'd felt so... happy? Something like that. Training had been difficult, and all the responsibilities of apprenticeship were frustrating and kept her busy. It was nice to have a day to sort of relax and a cat to hang out with. Ashpaw started walking at a nice, slow pace so the kit could keep up as she headed toward the camp entrance. Every few seconds, she would glance to the left, a habit of hers. When you're blind in one eye, you usually end up a little paranoid if you don't take a quick look to your bad side every once in a while.

  • "W-Wait!" Waterkit squealed at Ashpaw, trying to catch up. He couldn't believe he had SOMEONE to talk too. But, he wasn't too sure about this. Will there be loners? Rogues? Kittypets? Cats from other clans or tribes? Waterkit hopes NONE of those things would happen.

  • Ashpaw nodded and slowed her pace. Turning back to look at the kit, she came to a stop so he could catch up. "Are you excited?" She asked him.

  • Waterkit didn't know what to say after thinking of all of those things he just thought of. "Y-Yes. I am." He lied with a nervous smile.

  • Ashpaw returned the smile, not completely believing the kit, but she'd let it go for now. If he got really freak out, she would bring him back. She began walking once again, slower this time, still heading for the entrance.

  • Waterkit followed Ashpaw, having a little bit of excitement in him.

  • Ashpaw exited the camp, a smile still on her face. It was a nice day out, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. The apprentice padded a bit away from the camp, then paused and looked at the kit. "All right, since we're exploring for you today, which direction do you want to go?" She asked him.

  • Waterkit tried to think of a direction that he can remember to go back to camp. "North!" He quealed in excitement, and because 'North' is opposite of 'South'.

  • "Okay," Ashpaw purred, amused by the kit. She then turned in the direction of North and began slowly walking that way. "Anything in particular that you want to see?" She asked Waterkit, glancing at him with her good eye.
