Shyfly gave a flick of her tail letting Voidstep know she had heard him. Her eyes looked around her, as if a badger or a fox might jump out of nowhere. After a couple of heartbeats, she trotted up a bit closer to him, waiting for him to lead the way to where-ever they were going. And that gave Shyfly a thought:
All this time we've been friendly and kind. Well, there were some odds and ends at times, but they were really getting along.
Shyfly felt her heart skip a beat, then it beat faster and faster, like it was a race to see who's heart would beat the fastest:
Hers or Voidstep's.
She was probably winning.
Voidstep can't just love you, mousebrain! Shyfly scolded herself, then looked at Voidstep directly.
But maybe...just maybe...maybe his heart is beating as fast as mine....

Voidstep cast Shyfly a sidelong glance when he felt her eyes burning into his pelt, then focused deliberately on the ground a few lengths ahead so as to avoid awkward eye contact. Why was she looking at him? What was on her mind? Judging by what she'd said earlier, she was suspicious that he still had feelings for Arabesque. Why did that concern her? Was she right? He knew that he certainly missed what they'd had, but... Arab herself? He wasn't so sure of that. He didn't think so, but then again, he was never very good at knowing what he was feeling.
The scrawny tomcat could hear his pulsing heartbeat in his ears as the beats of silence ticked by. It could have been anxiety, it could have been discomfort making him acutely aware of details that were usually too insignificant to snag his attention, something else that he couldn't hope to guess, or some combination of those. Whatever the case, it couldn't possibly have been pumping as swiftly as Shyfly's (whose heart he could not have known was racing).
"There!" he pointed out abruptly, voice slicing cleanly through the silence that had fallen between them. He bounded towards an indentation in the face of the mountain; it was not deep enough to be a cave, but enough to shelter them effectively from the wind and rain, so long as the wind and rain didn't decide to angle themselves directly into its mouth. As he stepped into the cooler air of the small hollow, he turned to see if his friend was still right behind him, or if she'd lagged back a bit, as, to be honest, he hadn't really been paying attention. The forest was filled with the patter of rain on leaves, soil, and stone; the gentle sound had a strangely calming effect.

"Looks like we may have to stay here for the night," Shyfly commented in a low faint voice.

His role player was not feeling terribly original at the moment, so she rudely left it up to Shyfly to start a conversation.

Shyfly didn't exactly understand. Was he laughing? He probably wasn't.
"Well, you don't exactly have to be a father," She said pointedly,"All you have to know is that it's your offspring and if I go somewhere and their still really young, get another queen to nurse them. It's that easy!" Shyfly nodded at her own sentence. It was true after all!
"And I'm not a fan of being a mother as I already told you. Part of the reason is I have a 60 percent chance of getting critically sick or going into a coma. If it's worse, than I might die," She said quietly.
"And the more kits, the worse it'll be." Shyfly then realized she hadn't told Voidstep what ushio meant.
"Oh! Ushio means tide."
