  • Foxwing nodded, "Are you ready Bearpaw?" she asked, not wanting to rush the apprentice.Bearpaw smiled brightly at his mentor. "You bet!" he exclaimed

Cinderfur and Adderfang watched the apprentice. Cinderfur heaved herself up and padded over to the apprentice.
"Sorry to interupt," she started, "But, I just wanted to wish Bearpaw luck." she said.

  • Chaipaw either just woke up or didn't feel like actually getting up. Well, that was normal. Maybe his mentor was already awake? Probably already on a patrol or something. Dang, he probably missed going on a hunting patrol- his favorite! The apprentice padded out of his den, ready to start his day.

  • Sorrelpaw nodded, her whiskers twitching in amusement at her mentor's reply. "Not all of us are old and creaky warriors that don't move unless necessary," she teased back, scenting the air as she spoke for whatever prey might be nearby. The small tortie blinked her hazel eyes in amusement, tail waving.

The world became just him and Pantherpaw as Coppermask tried to find the words. She was right. He couldn't stay silent forever. Even from the beginning he'd known that, but he'd never known how much his actions affected Pantherpaw. His tail dipped to the ground and his ears drooped, but just as he felt ready to bolt away, he realized there was truly nothing to fear. He had to speak, to tell her how much he cared, to teach her the way his mentor had taught him, no matter the memories that would flash through his mind and bring him fear. He would have to be strong for Pantherpaw...
"C-can we talk..." he stumbled over his words, unused to the sound of his own voice. "In private..."

  • OOC: Is anyone specifically interested in mentoring Chaipaw? Just thought I'd ask this time, before assigning someone. xD

IC: Lightningtail purred. "For the record, I'm not old or creaky." He opened his mouth to taste the air. "No fresh scents here, so let's head a little ways in and see if you can pick up another trail, okay?" He smiled at Sorrelpaw, again indicating she should take the lead.

Silverstar nodded. "Let's go." The silver tabby led the way out of camp, her tail held high. She knew there was a hunting patrol near the forest, so she headed parallel to the river instead. Once they were far enough away, she stopped and glanced at Foxwing. It was her job to explain the assessment to Bearpaw.

Pantherpaw nodded, still feeling nervous. But at the same time... He'd spoken to her! Coppermask had said something, she'd heard his voice. That was a start, right? Nervously, she waited to see where the tom would take her.

  • Foxwing nodded
"Bearpaw, today you will take your final assessment to become a warrior, your task will be to get as much freak-kill as you can. Silverstar and myself with both be watching you from a distance, you won't know we are there so do the best you can. If we think you did a good enough job then you will be made a warrior this afternoon when we get back to camp. Got it?"

"Got it." Bearpaw replied. As he began to scent prey and started to follow the trail of it.

(That's what he's supposed to do right?)

  • OOC: Okay, Nightdreams can mentor Chaipaw! And yes, that's what he's supposed to do. c:

IC: Silverstar watched the apprentice go. She waited until he was far enough away before she slipped into the heather. Her silver tabby pelt blended in well with the pale flowers and stems, so it was no problem for the leader to track Bearpaw unnoticed. She knew Foxwing would take her own route to follow the apprentice.

  • (Yes!)

Foxwing watched her leader go and slunk the other way and climbed into a nearby tree. She hid in the leaves that way if the apprentice looked up he couldn't see her.

Bearpaw stopped and scented the air. He smelled a mouse and soon saw the leaf shake it was hiding under. He slowly and quietly steped toward it until he was a leaping distance away from him. He got ready to pounce and pounced, snapping the mouses neck in one swift blow.

  • Sorrelpaw snickered and waved her tail in acknowledgement, darting off into the gorse nearby with her tail carefully held above the ground as she scented. The apprentice's ears shot up as she smelled mouse and she dropped into a crouch, slinking forwards over the ground towards where she knew it was. Peering through the purple-grey stems, she pinpointed its location and prepared to pounce. tail quivering slightly as she consciously kept it from waving.

  • Silverstar watched Bearpaw with keen eyes. He'd caught the mouse well enough, but as most of HeatherClan was territory was open moor... She'd hold judgement until the assessment was completed. The tabby stored the memory and waited silently for the apprentice to find his next piece of prey.

Lightningtail silently egged his apprentice on. [i]Come on, Sorrelpaw, you can do it![/i He thought, watching her closely. His gaze was approving as he noticed the way she was holding her tail. Even if Sorrelpaw didn't instinctively catch on to hunting, she tried hard and worked at it. In a way that was even more important.

  • Foxwing was impressed on how her apprentice was doing but help her judgement, he hadn't hunted in the open, so she set off after him as he tracked a Thrush to the open moorland.

Bearpaw then saw the Thrush trying to get a worm, he first buried the mouse safely and then tested the wind. If he started forward, the bird would smell him, so he moved downwind of the bird and started to stalk it. He was very focused on the bird then all of a sudden, he stepped on a twig, sending the bird flying.

"Mousedung!" he cursed, but, remembered not to get to frazzled, his assessment wasn't over, and even the most experienced warriors missed every once in a while. He decided to temp another catch in the open area.

    Cinderfur sighed
"I'm bored." she told her mate. I want to take a walk, but, who knows when the kits will be here. It could be any minute."

  • Sorrelpaw tensed for a moment, preparing to pounce, before springing forwards and killing the mouse with a careful bite to the neck. She let out a squeak of satisfaction and turned back to her mentor. "I gof id!" she meowed through the prey, bouncing over to her mentor.

Coppermask stiffly padded into the medicine den, pulling from a corner of the cave a rather large bramble branch to cover the entrance once Pantherpaw was through. The main use of the branch was really for a barricade in case a predator snuck into camp, but it had in the past been used for other purposes, such as, simple privacy, insane patients, or as a jail cell for trespassers. Regardless of all that, at the moment it would mostly be used to keep other people from entering in to listen to them while they talked.
Coppermask found a dark patch of shadow within the cave to hide his face in and sat down in it. It took him a second to gather his courage, but once he was ready, the words came spilling out of his mouth like a river dam that had broken under years of pressure. "I haven't been ignoring you because I don't like you. I guess I'm just too shy or intimidated, o-or... Or pressured..." He sighed and his tail curled more tightly around his copper paws. "Maybe I'm just not as strong as everyone else. Talking just reminds me too muh of the way I was before... b-before my p-parents... died... Back then they loved me. They watched out for me, because at the time, I was the only living kit they'd had together. I guess they'd tried it before, but every time they'd failed. Thy felt like I was their last hope, and I did, I did survive." He glanced up at as he realized that all of this was probably boring. The story was long, afterall, and she didn't need to know all of it.
"To sum it up, I hated by parents before they died. I was selfish, spoiled, and ignorant, and I criticized them every day for protecting me and treating me like a kit. When they died, I lost everything, even my voice... I became the medicine cat, and ever since then I've been running away, not considering... How my action affect others..."

Mistyfall padding into camp, a crow and field mouse clutched by heir tails in her jaws. Eyes wide, she saw Pantherpaw and Coppermask disappear into the medicine den and tried to think of the last time she'd actually seen them getting along; not since the apprentice ceremony, she was sure. A soft purr crept up her throat. It was nice to see them together for once. As she padded towards the fresh-kill-pile to deposit her prey, she walked happily, her tail and ears waving in unison.

  • OOC: You mean the last version? That was 3.0, actually. This is version 4. xD But yes, I remember.

IC: Silverstar slunk after Bearpaw. She watched his attempt to catch the bird. One miss didn't poison her against him. Everyone was entitled to some misses. Even she didn't catch everything she stalked.

Lightningtail purred. "I saw! That was very good, Sorrelpaw." He smiled at his excited apprentice. "Your form was good, and I noticed you took extra care to keep your tail still." The large white tom praised her freely. It had been a good catch.

Pantherpaw blinked, looking down at her paws. For a moment she was silent. "Y-you should h-have just told m-me." She looked up, bright green eyes meeting his gaze for a fleeting moment before skittering away again. "W-will you... talk to me now? Teach me?" Her tone grew suddenly hopeful, not quite as nervous.

  • Sorrelpaw purred happily, burying the kill to retrieve it later. She glanced at her mentor briefly before assuming she was meant to keep hunting and turning to pad around. The she-cat scented the air cautiously, hazel eyes thoughtful.
