  • Dandelionface looked up at the other tom and smiled brightly, getting to his paws. "Of course!" the golden tom purred. "I see that Lightningtail and his apprentice Sorrelpaw are up to their usual antics, too." he chuckled, twitching his whiskers with amusement at the two cats.

  • Hollowsoul//HeatherClan Warrior

With a quick glance, Hollowsoul acknowledged the trio. A slight feeling of amusement came upon seeing the apprentices play fight. He turned back to Dandelionface, having a more softer tone when he spoke." So it seems. Flamepaw can be childish at times, but I consider myself lucky that she is my apprentice. Do you ever want to be a mentor?"

Dayshine spoke softly in reply to Dandelionface, a small smile at the corner of his jaw. "Morning to you, too." He stepped aside as Hollowsoul and Dandelionface conversed, making his way to Silverstar. "Sorry i overslept," the brown tabby apologized, dipping his head down to his leader with slight embarrassment. "Will i be in one of the patrols? Or sending any?"

Rustfang flicked her ears forward in response to hearing Patchpaw's voice just a short distance away. She jerked her head up and looked over to the tortie, her wide blue eyes gleaming with curiosity. The red feline buried the remains of her mouse beneath a pile of dirt and hopped over to the two toms. "I heard you're taking Patchpaw on a patrol," she stated, her voice cheery. "So i'm coming, too!"

  • Dandelionface smiled, his eyes softening too. "I'd love to have the chance to be a mentor someday. Hopefully one of the next kits can perhaps take that place? Though, I suppose that's up to Silverstar." The tom flicked his tail thoughtfully, smiling, and glancing over at the apprentices and their mentors. "I guess we have a few more cats on our patrol," he remarked, smiling brightly at Rustfang before looking back at the apprentices.

  • It seemed as if the hunting patrol was quite full - it was no use to join if other patrols that needed cats were still going to be set out. Rosestripe rose from the ground, a pale pink tongue washing her muzzle. Ears angling towards the small group of clanmates, the patched she-cat trotted up, a bright grin plastered on her maw.

"Good morning, everyone," the young warrior mewed sowewhat cheerfully. Glancing towards the camp entrance, two figures moved. Coppermask and Mistyfall. Basically having nothing else to do, Rosestripe nodded towards the hunting patrol and slipped away to catch up with the best hunter in the clan and the medicine cat.

  • Lightningtail laughed, then glanced over at Hollowsoul. "Looks like we're hunting!" He flicked his tail over Sorrelpaw's ear. "Come on then." He was still smiling as he padded over to join the rest of the group. He knew Sorrelpaw would be happy that Patchpaw was coming as well. No doubt the pair of them would making the hunting more difficult, though, if they were as loud as he thought they would be.

Patchpaw scrambled after Rustfang. "Yay, hunting patrol!" He bounced around her happily, flicking his tortie tail. His fur was still covered in dust from his mock-death, but he didn't seem to notice. The apprentice grinned at his sister. He couldn't wait to get going!

Silverstar dipped her head to Dayshine. "Good morning. All I've done is organized a hunting patrol, so we probably need a border patrol sent out at least." Her tail tip flicked. "You needn't worry about sleeping in, it happens to us all." She smiled ruefully.

Pantherpaw watched her mentor go with a sinking heart and her tail drooped. Feeling dejected, she set about tidying the pile of herbs Coppermask had knocked over, then carefully moved them back into their place on the rock shelf. After that she just sat, staring at the rows of herbs. How was she supposed to learn anything if her mentor wouldn't teach her? Was she a disappointment? Was that why he never spoke to her? What if she wasn't cut out to be a medicine cat, and Coppermask knew it? Her anxiety swelled, and for a moment all she could do was try to slow her racing heartbeat. Maybe she should just ask him and get it over with.

  • Sorrelpaw bounced after her mentor and brother, scrambling over to where Hollowsoul and Dandelionface were waiting. The little tortie skidded to a halt beside the group and quickly bent down to give her fur a lick. There, at least most of the dust was out of it now and she was semi-presentable.

Dandelionface looked around at the patrol before looking over at Hollowsoul, who was leading it. "Are we ready to get going?" the cream tabby tom asked. His hazel eyes darted briefly to the medicine cat den, where he noted Pantherpaw disappearing into it with a disapproving twitch of his whiskers; where had Coppermask ran off to already? He had a responsibility to his apprentice. Internally sighing, he made a note to go visit her later and perhaps try to cheer her up.

Coppermask opened his mouth to speak, but Mistyfall's eyes burrowed into his pelt, and the words just wouldn't come. His tail flicked nervously, and his ears went back on his head to show his discomfort, though it didn't seem to bother Mistyfall in the least. "I'll help you, if you're going to gather herbs," the she-cat purred, standing as if expecting to follow him outside. When he didn't move, she deflated and fell back onto her haunches, whiskers drooping. She just stared at him as if she expected a reason for rejection, but he couldn't talk to save his life, and the words of explanation were left unsaid in his head.
"You can be so rude somethimes," Mistyfall mewed. "Things would be much simpler if you just spoke your mind." He knew that! Why was it so hard for others to understand? The fact was, he couldn't speak, and it had been like that for many, many moons. Coppermask's claws dug into the ground as emotion roiled inside of him. They made it sound so simple, like conversation was as easy as walking or running, but they didn't know what it was like not being able to speak. He wondered, what if one of them lost their tongue like him, if they were muted and unable to speak to those around them, the ones that criticized everything about you while you had no way of proving then wrong. No, being mute wasn't the hardest part. It was not being able to prove that he was actually good and worthy of accepting himself that really bored into his soul...

  • Hollowsoul//HeatherClan Warrior

"We'll go now, let's get Lightingtail and Patchpaw." Hollowsoul meowed, moving towards the warrior and his apprentice. He wanted to get going as soon as possible, he was feeling uncomfortable talking. Once approaching Lightningtail, he dipped his head in greetings." Lightningtail, Silverstar requested me to lead a dawn patrol. I would like you to accompany me and Dandelionface."

  • Lightningtail nodded. "Yeah, we heard. Come on Sorrelpaw!" He smiled at his apprentice and flicked his tail, following Hollowsoul out of the camp. The large white tom was stark against the late greenleaf heather. He fell in step behind Hollowsoul, since the other tom was leading the patrol.

Patchpaw bounced after them, not waiting for his mentor Rustfang to follow. He did look over his shoulder at her, though. "We're on this patrol, right?" He meowed, not really stopping. Which promptly caused him to walk into the gorse wall of the camp. "Ow!" He blinked, then started laughing at himself quietly.

Pantherpaw sat in the medicine den, listening to the bustle outside and debating on asking Coppermask why he refused to talk to her. The concept was daunting, and she swallowed hard. She just had to know, though... Her fluffy black tail twitched in agitation and anxiety.

  • Hollowsoul//HeatherClan Warrior

Hollowsoul led the patrol into the forest and decided for them to split up. Lightningtail and his apprentice along with Dandelion, go south towards a patch of flowers where voles and mice reside. While him Patchpaw, and Rustfang(who eventually caught up) go together and hunt in trees for birds.

He stalked through the tree branches, cautious as to where his other group member were. Smelling a scent nearby, the tom turned to see a small blue bird residing on a lone branch. With quick movements, Hollowsoul pounced on the unknowing bird and killed it quickly.

  • Sorrelpaw nodded and obediently padded after her mentor, sniggering as her brother walked into the gorse wall and pushing past him to keep up with the patrol. The small tortie looked around as they exited camp, wondering where they were headed today. Maybe the river to fish? Or maybe they would just stick with the moor?

Dandelionface strode confidently after Hollowsoul, letting the other tom decide where to go. The fluffy golden tom scented the air as he stepped forwards. He hoped the apprentices would quiet down a little, or they wouldn't be able to catch anything on this trip. At Hollowsoul's suggestion, Dandelionface nodded and set off in the other direction, flicking his tail for Lightningtail and Sorrelpaw to come with.

  • Flamepaw stood up the ginger she-cat ruffed up her pelt, and stepped out into the camp. The apprentice had overslept, she hoped she didn't miss out on anything and searched around for her mentor.

Mistyfall turned her back to Coppermask and with shoulders squared in agitation, strode through the gap in the bramble wall, her fluffed up tail swinging behind her in an arc. She honestly wasn't that mad at him, but he did need to learn how to speak his mind. Sighing, she realized how bad she must look to him, the medicine cat was too shy to speak, and too shy to stay in camp most days. Their argument of seconds past would only add to his depression, and she empathized with him. Mistyfall paused and fell back on her haunches, contemplating the mess she'd roped herself into and the guilt that pressured her to return and apologize, but she was already to deep in the forest to return. But surely if she tried to speak to him again after what had just transpired, then his anger would push away her words and render them useless, yet the longer she thought about it, the more apologizing appealed to her. She must've spent a minute simply thinking, her grey eyes glazed with worry, until finally, she wheeled around and raced back to camp. As soon as she burst through the bramble wall, she realized that she was too late. Coppermask was gone.

After Mistyfall left him in the dust, Coppermask spared no time in going the opposite direction of the she-cat. He returned to the medicine den, his tail rigid with agitation. It wasn't like this was the first time Mistyfall had said such a thing like that to him, but she had such a short term memory that she had to constantly repeat it. That or she thought he was actually capable of doing something about it. Either way he wanted to spend the rest of his day sorting herbs, and then tomorrow he would prove that he actually could speak to himself, Mistyfall, and the rest of the clan. He had to be that strong, at least, after all he'd been through, he ought to be that strong.

  • Lightningtail padded after Dandelionface. "So, Sorrelpaw." He meowed. "Tell me what you can smell. In terms of prey, mind you." He added, in preparation for some sort of snarky comment about dirt or something. His apprentice needed to focus.

Pantherpaw whirled around when Coppermask entered the medicine den. He looked angry. Any courage she might have had about speaking up about his behavior left her, and the small black she-cat shrank away from him. It was possible he hadn't actually seen her. Maybe she could just slip out somehow... But no, she had to stay. What if she was needed? Just because Coppermask shirked his duties didn't mean she had to.

Dayshine was filled with relief to the leader's response. "Heheh, yeah..." he awkwardly said, his voice faded to a whisper. "I'll go on the border patrol since i have nothing really to do."

Rustfang marched along with the rest of the hunting patrol, slowly splitting apart from the dispersing group. "Yeah. Come on Patchpaw," she answered, signalling for him to follow her into the different path.

Coppermask noticed Pantherpaw in the corner of the medicine den, her black pelt outlined against the green herbs. He softened immediantly, not wanting to show his frustraion at Mistyfall to his apprentice. As he calmed, he picked up on the fact that the she-cat was almost cowering against the medicinal leaves, and his whiskers quivered in shame. How could he scare the young cat like that? His eyes slid to the wall and a pang of sorrow flowed through him, causing his tail to slide across the dirt floor. He. couldn't orally apologize, but as before, he bowed his head to her, hoping she understood his emotions.

Mistyfall went back into the forest. She wanted to forget about Coppermask, and the best way she could think of to do that, was to hunt. Her claws itched to kill something, to feel the hot, sticky blood of prey on her paws. The leaves rustled lightly overhead, and sunshine beamed down through the canopy of green to light a worn path through the forest. She followed that path, occasionally stopping to sniff the air for prey.

  • Dandelionface slipped a few fox-lengths away from Lightningtail and his apprentice to give them space, staying close enough but giving himself space to hunt. The cream tabby tom's whiskers twitched as he smelled mouse and dropped into a crouch. Stepping forwards lightly, he placed his paws as carefully as he could, hoping the apprentice and mentor would stay far enough away for him to catch it.

Sorrelpaw's whiskers twitched in amusement at her mentor's clarification; he knew her too well. Waving her tail, she sniffed thoughtfully. "I can smell... squirrel. That way, I think?" She pointed with her ears and padded slowly in the direction of the scent.

  • Rosestripe, Cloudbelly, and Brackenflame padded awkwardly around camp. The brown and white tom peeked into the medicine cat den, a slight frown painted on his maw. "Coppermask? Pantherpaw? Do you need some help with anything?" Cloudbelly murmured softly to the two, his simple blue orbs growing a distant look.

    SO RUSHED.

Mistyfall caught the scent of a squirrel somewhere around a patch of nearby bramble bushes and dropped into an even crouch, her belly fur just barely brushing the ground. Pawsteps treading lightly and tail pointed straight behind her, she snuck towards it, eyes focused on the spot she'd smelt squirrel from. She was only a few tails away when she finally sighted the bobbing fluffy mass of rodent nibbling a nut at the base of a large oak tree, it's tiny feet planted into the dark brown bark. She had to hold her breath to keep her from being heard by the squirrel during the hunt, but she confidently took a few more steps forward before pausing a cat's length from the squirrel, her ears trained towards it intently. It took her only a moment to dart forward with claws outstretched and jaws open to envelope the squirrel and cut off its head with the sharp thorns of her paws. The rodent was dead in an instant and hung from Mistyfall's jaws with blood-smell fresh in the air, like a copper tang. The she-cat purred in happiness at her successful catch, though it hadn't been her very best one, and she knew it. This squirrel, at least, she could give to Coppermask as an apology, or take the safer route and give it to one of the queens.

Coppermask perked his ears as he heard a cat's voice behind him. Still keeping his head bowed, however, he managed to look over his own shoulder at the warrior and recognize him as Cloudbelly. He didn't say anything in return to the tom cat; he waited for Pantherpaw to say something.
