• So it appears that my character is the new leader of The Regime. I've never played a leader with my own character; I've temped one though. Any advice for me? What is one's responsibilities as leader outside of the clan? Inside the clan?

Any and all help is much appreciated!

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px][sub]well, one important thing is activity. a clan can't exactly flourish and be active without an active leader. I consider that a key quality, as well as being active, it embarks you to scout out the members that would be right for high positions and such to help.

ive had a leader before and honestly, I myself could not handle it. basically, I think what I'm trying to say, is lead it as best you can. look to others for advice when you have no clue what to do, don't rely on just yourself to make the place work.

everyone won't be able to be made happy, because all how know how freaking impossible that is. and there going to have to get over it because hey your leader xD anyways, outside of the clan, you could always ask for advice, especially here because you get wonderful feedback. ask for the negative traits and things people see in the clan. it's better for you to know, so you can work on it and make the clan better as a whole.

I honestly have no clue what I'm talking about, but it really sounded good in my head..

  • [fancypost bgcolor=transparent; border: none; text-align: justify; color: white;]OUTSIDE OF THE CLAN;
    • Make sure that bonds between you and your allies are strong, bring them gifts, etc.
    • Attend to the official monthly leaders + deputies meeting, found here (click).
    • Attend to the gathering, found here (click).
    • Be sure that you interact a lot with other clans like invite them to parties, go raiding, lead an attack, and things like that.

    INSIDE THE CLAN;
    • Do activity checks at least twice a month. This will ensure the activity of your high positions.
    • Post as much as you did before you were leader. The activity of a leader is usually low which isn't always nice. People like to see their clan leader posting around a lot and being social. It will create a more open and welcoming environment.
    • Keep a close eye on the clan. There's often cliqueyness that drives people away. A lot of the times it will be some of the high positions that are the source of the cliqueyness. Demote those people immediately and give them the explanation why. Make an announcement to the clan that cliqueyness is in no way welcome.
    • Have a position where you can promote a lot of active members to. Even if they are only joined yesterday! This will bring more and more members to the clan.
    • Make a lot of plots and activities. Otherwise, the clan will get boring and maybe even a bit inactive.

Still thinking of some more tips. x3

+ make friends, simple as that c: have people support your ideas and stuff
+ think things through as well. Think of someone's reaction or their charrie's reaction.
+ stick to your charrie's personality c: It can be tough, but you can do it
+ do NOT doubt your ideas, have confidence and show true leadership, your clanmates should back you up

  • [fancypost bgcolor= transparent; bordercolor=transparent; width:370px;]
Whoa, I didn't know there was an official gathering for Leaders and Deputies. o.O
    [/fancypost]

  • [fancypost bgcolor=; borderwidth=0px; bordercolor=; width: 400px;]This is probably the number one thing to remember: YOUR LIFE COMES FIRST. Yeah, you know school and all that crap? That comes first before this site. I don't know how many times I've gotten mad at myself for ignoring my work and using all the time I could find just to post with my leader. My grades had dropped so low to the point where my teacher had began to assume something bad (ex. death or divorce) was going on in my life that caused all of this.

If you find that you're getting a lower mark than you usually do, or that you find your grades dropping slightly, don't even hesitate to have your leader step down, or go on temporary leave even. You do not want to look back on your life and ask yourself, "Why did I put a virtual character before my life and my grades?".

Other than that, just follow what the others have posted too. Make sure that your character doesn't turn into a sue/dramatically change personalities either - that had happened to me because I found it difficult to lead an anti-clan with a kindhearted, peaceful female. Just try your best. And if you find that it's just too hard, make up some plots that could possibly twist their point of view into one that would be easier to roleplay.

Also, congratulations on the promotion! ( :

  • I think it's really important to engage people. ^^ That in turn keeps them active and posting, and they'll create plots of their own to add to your clan.

So for newer players and people new to your clan, make really fun and accessible threads. Maybe a sticky that's just a party, or some interesting kind of expedition. Maybe something cool was found, or there's an easy-to-grasp plot twist. It doesn't have to be consequential or deep; it can just be whimsical and fun and easy for people to engage with. xP

I don't know the details of your group, but say you're close to Twoleg activity and you hear incredibly loud sirens and you have no idea what it is. Maybe you find a secret passage and want to explore. Maybe there's a bear in the leader's den. If a group is super militaristic and intense, maybe there's an incredibly difficult obstacle course (with all sorts of fun obstacles people can react to) that everybody must pass as training. Things like that.

In the Tribe of Freezing Comets a long time ago, there was a thing called the Olympics. It was basically a bunch of challenges that characters went through IC, and the contests were judged on whose post was the most interesting. For example, characters had to do a task, and the writers had to do it all in poetry. In another, characters were given materials and had to make artwork (players would make a graphic or other visual representation). There was a fighting tournament. I thought that was incredibly interesting and engaging. Things like that engage people.

Also, post a lot on random threads.

For the people more engaged in the clan/advanced RPers, try to come up with cool plots with which people can really develop their characters. Don't let it all be business as usual. A radical change in the nature of a group can be a big turning point for a character, and some people will appreciate the chance. And I don't mean start a battle or change alliances. Reinvent the clan. When I was on the site, Neruka kept doing that with the Tribe of Freezing Comets. It moved. It changed names. Its ideology changed. Feed the plot-hungry members.

I know this is a lot of stuff, but don't be afraid to ask for ideas. Communicate with the high positions, in character and out. Have a plot ideas thread. Coordinate with other leaders.

It looks like I wrote a lot. xD You don't have to do all of that of course, but that's my idea of a great leader. As Storm said, you have RL and other characters. But maybe consider what I said about engaging everyone? Hope I helped.

  • [fancypost borderwidth=0px; text-align: justify;]Well, first off: don't take having a leader for granted. Don't suddenly drop off the earth and become inactive just because you feel like you're immortal since no one except the staff can demote your character. Believe me, it's no fun when staff do have to demote leaders due to inactivity.

Try to refrain from having cliques in the Clan. If you feel as if the Clan is beginning to get a little inactive, try to make everyone more museful and active - activity contests, mass adoptions and clanwide events help. Try to involve everyone in plots and such, and make the place friendly and welcoming, so that people want to come back. I would suggest keeping all the HP's active and make sure that you do activity checks every now and then, and don't hesitate to demote anyone if there's IC or OOC drama.

It's also very important to put The Regime's name out there. Do attacks, plots, takeovers, etc - things that I personally have failed at. Make sure that OOCly everyone likes the Clan, try to keep their reputation clean and drama to the minimum. By that, I mean OOC drama. Keep your own OOC drama to the minimum. If you continuously do rulebreaks, even accidentally, eventually something will be done. Keep your own slate clean! c:

I would do promotions and demotions often. Personally, I like Clans that aren't slow and have inactive HP's and stuff. I prefer Clans where there are promotions whenever someone is active, and promising new members are promoted, because it shows promise within the Clan. Try to keep your character with the same personality as she originally had - don't change Stella to the stereotypical leader. Though this is more of a personal thing, I think that portraying her individual character is good, instead of being the strong, loyal leader.

As Storm has said, make sure that your own life comes before your character's. If it's getting too stressing, have her step down or get a co-owner - it could be temporary if you have a certain point in which your activity will be fluctuating - but if you feel that you just can't do it, just get on which your life. Don't let WCRPG drag you down.

    Hope that helped <3

  • Try and make everyone feel welcome within the clan - sometimes hold OOC and IC meet and greets, so the newer members of the group don't feel perhaps so intimidated. Make sure to take ideas from other members as well, for plots and such, as then, they will feel more involved with the clan. Try and hold fast promotions + demotions, as people seem to like them, and it means that it won't take too long, if you're active, to earn a high position.

    Hope this helped. :)

I'll add some more as well, once I think of something.

  • ^ that sounds like really sound advice!
