How can I make it so my RPs aren't ignored and/or die out quickly?

  • This may seem like a bothersome question, but I would really love the help. I need help trying to get my boards seen and trying not to let some boards die out quickly. My RPs usually last probably to page five. If I'm lucky, it sometimes lasts longer, but I haven't had any luck. The reason I finally bring this up is because I'm slightly jealous of my best friend who can draw in people quickly form some odd reason, while I just sit here, my boards being all empty. I've bumped them, but no body has come. Please help!

  • I haven't been on here long, but with my knowledge from other RPG forums the best thing to do is to put an eye catching title and a good storyline. By 'Eye catching title.' I don't mean put a load of symbols in it, I mean put a quote from the main plot - Say you were doing something about a war between two clans, put something like 'We must put an end to war, before war puts an end to us." (Just be sure to copyright the original maker of the quote.) Or maybe add a mysterious title, just be clear what you are roleplaying.

For the first post, think of it as if you are writing an intro to an actual book, or a prologue, don't put it as if you are in your characters POV, mix it up a little, act like a narrator. Just be sure to add a cliff-hanger at the end! After this you may want to introduce your character, people get bored when they see a character form straight away.

Now then, as you begin to become bored, or see that the other members in the roleplay are becoming bored add something sudden, a large TWIST in the story. It will make them want to join in, to see the drama and action will be a thrill that they would not have expected!

  • I've tried that before. Yet, it still doesn't work.

  • From what I've seen- and I don't rp a lot anymore, much less outside of official clans- but when you start a clan in a normal, hum-drum setting where they're just going out for a patrol or everyone is just waking up, things get boring fast. The only real solution I can see is enlisting some help from a friend so that they can help create drama, or start the rp in a quick-paced spot; say, in the midde of a flood or storm.
Another thing I seem to see a lot of successful rps doing is using multiple threads for when multiple characters interact and multiple storylines play out. It really seems to bring the roleplayers together, because their character has had more time to get to know their clanmates.

  • oh!! pff sorry i'm just used to so many people roleplaying cats and such. but i think the whole 'start in an interesting place' still applies!! nwn
and yeah, it is!! are you a fan? O:

  • Yes. And I've tried doing an interesting plot, but I guess it never works.
